View Full Version : My Chemical Romance Writing And Preparing New Album
Jared Kaufman
06/03/05, 08:45 AM
My Chemical Romance (http://www.mychemicalromance.com) have written eight songs for their next album, which the group hopes to record by the end of the year. Gerad Way had this to say: "I imagine we'll write in the high 30s and pick our favorites, whereas last time we only wrote about 16 songs, if that. We know what we do well, but theres some more risks being taken, slower tempos, heavier stuff, more of an arena-rock element that was hinted at on the last record."

Now that they have their hooks in the MTV crowd, I bet we will see them tour with Good Charlotte and Simple Plan next year. Don't get me wrong, I liked 3CfSR, but I'm Not Okay was total pop garbage meant to get them on TRL. Rest of the album is pretty slick, though.

Don't get me wrong, I liked 3CfSR, but I'm Not Okay was total pop garbage meant to get them on TRL. Rest of the album is pretty slick, though.if they do end up touring with Good Charlotte they will be the biggest hypocrites ever, I remember reading an interview with them awhile back where they ripped on G.C. so bad, it was quite funny.
I'm gonna come in here and say that My Chemical Romance is a good band. I think their first two albums were great on different levels, indie and mainstream. It's time to face the facts. The greatest bands (not saying mcr is one of them) will come and go through independent music and breakthrough into the big numbers. But is that so bad? I mean, when you grow up with a band album after album and they succeed don't you feel a sense of accomplishment within yourself because you knew them 'way back'. Where you can actually say for instance even next year when tbs releases their debut on Warner Bros. 'Make It Your Business' and everyone will say this album is amazing because they aren't going to fuck it up this time. They have an amazing lineup and they are gonna blow minds away. But the kid who just got into them with this new album you turn to him and say "dude check out Tell All Your Friends" or even WYWTB for others, because you were there and it was awesome. Same thing with Brand New, Blink 182 and other bands we've grown up with. It's like I rather see these guys on top of the mainstream game than have these random shitty bands make it out of nowhere. I'm not throwing any band names out, I don't wanna offend anyone, if you agree with me than feel free to say it. And in the end, Youth will always be here to break a new mold in Indie Music and keep on giving us awesome music. And the circle will go round and round, hopefully.
I tried to say what I wanted to say the best I could.

Gared has expressed interest before in wanting to be similar to the Smashing Pumpkins. For instance, he tries to make their videos actually be something more than just the band playing... The Pumpkins had extraordinary videos, and he aspires to do the same.
I wonder if he'll pull a Pumpkins and make the next album a double album. That'd be interesting.... I'd actually like to hear that.
But it would be nowhere near Mellon Collie, especially since 3CFSR is nowhere near Siamese Dream. But nonetheless, I'm sure it would be very good compared to most of the mainstream stuff out there.
Gish was indie, like MCR's first album.
Siamese Dream broke them to the mainstream, like 3CFSR.
Mellon Collie was the Pumpkins' chance to break from the rest of the grunge bands and prove they are a unique and powerful monster of their own.... I definitely think MCR could pull off something like that. Unlike other bands in MCR's 'genre', MCR show signs of major potential and growth.

I hate if a band aims for a similar sound. Just fucking write the music naturally. If you sit down with your band and say "Ok, we need to be a screamo band and sound like these bands" then please don't involve yourself with music.

That's a big stereotype considering the last band to support Good Charlotte on their tour was Millencolin

Just a few years ago, boy bands ruled the planet. Between 'NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, B2K, O-Town, LFO and any number of other acronym-happy wannabes, the sound of sweet harmonies and young girls screaming filled the air and the airwaves.
But times change, girls grow up, fake dreadlocks fray and beats get stale, which explains why, if you look at this week's chart, there is nary a boy band to be seen in the top 40 (unless you count Lil Jon's East Side Boyz) ...
Sure, Backstreet Boys just finished their first new album in five years, but for the most part, these groups have faded away and been replaced by sensitive, sweet-faced singer-songwriters or pop-punk bands who've replaced cheesy braids with mohawks, eyeliner and way more attitude.
Gone are the matching flashy suits and asymmetrical hairstyles; in are baggy bondage pants, vintage rock tees (somehow less corny than when Justin wears them), matching black suits with white ties and messy, er, often asymmetrical hairstyles.
In retrospect, it makes Blink-182's 1999 boy-band-bashing video for "All the Small Things" all the more amusing, because the screaming crowds in that video could just as easily be in a pop-punk band's audience today.
The new boy bands are more likely to resemble Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, Sum 41, Simple Plan or Dashboard Confessional, with a bigger emphasis on originality and realness than matching threads and hot dance moves. The cycle is pretty predictable, as yesterday's teenyboppers grow older and move beyond the candy pop of their youth, searching for something a bit edgier to annoy parents with and separate them from their Franz Ferdinand-loving older siblings. But even with "TRL"-worthy videos, hit albums and singles, some of the bands reaping the benefits aren't sure how they got there ... or how long it will last.
"It's definitely weird," said My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way, whose band has broken through to the tween and teen set with the emotional rocker "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)." "I guess we are taking the place of the boy bands and pinups, so these girls now have these dysfunctional heroes on their wall. We always thought we'd be underground or on the fringes, so we're shocked by it.
"But if you pay attention to music history, it was just a matter of time before all the boy bands and assembled girl bands went away and real bands came into focus."
Way added that the band's new status isn't changing its focus on singing about non-pinup issues, like suicide and speaking out against racism, sexism and homophobia, even if some of the kids in their audience now are wearing "football equipment."
"When I was growing up, we all loved [Pearl Jam singer] Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain, and then Britney and Backstreet happened and I think it's back to a backlash against that now," said Anne Ichikawa, entertainment editor for Elle Girl magazine. "Anything shoved in your face as a teen, you're going to rebel against. It's cool for girls not to be mainstream now, it's cool to dress a certain way and look for something different. The idea is the same — some guy in a band to fixate on — but they just look different now."
Both the boy-band and pop-punk formulas get a twist with new heartthrobs like Tyler Hilton, Ryan Cabrera, Howie Day, Gavin DeGraw and Jesse McCartney, who look like prefabricated pop singers but write their own songs. And while not all of them will break through the "just another pretty face" barrier like multiplatinum singer/guitarist John Mayer, these guys take their songwriting as seriously as their hair gel.
"What can you do?," singer Tyler Hilton said about the "curse" of his good looks. "I guess I've got a look that people dig, and I thank my parents. It's the same thing for all my favorite people: James Dean, Humphrey Bogart, Elvis, they were really talented, but it's their look. I'm sure one day I will have a look about me that people won't want to look at anymore."

Your a fuckin toolbag, along with 90% of the other people who post here. You come here, attempt to act cool by dissing bands on TRL, and totally fall flat on your face. The band made it big, accept it and move the fuck on. I loved this band 3 years ago when I would go see them open for Finch, or Coheed, or any other band and MAYBE 15 people in a crowd of 1000 were truly rocking out to the music. Do I hold a grudge for them being on TRL and having a huge fan base? Absolutely not. People make fun of them for wearing makeup and this and that, but the truth is that has ALWAYS been the image of this band. I, for one, think it's pretty rad that they have an image and stick with it. Now that people can't have this band all to themselves, everyone screams sellout and is suddenly dreading the release of the new cd. Correct me if I'm wrong, but basically everyone who views this site on a daily basis was riding this bands sack when they first released 3CFSR, even those who never heard Bullets. Now everyone wants to hear more music like Vampires all of the sudden. Fuck you all. Hating a band because they made it to MTV is just flat out immature.
I honestly can't fucking wait till this time next year when Brand New is all over the airwaves and MTV and suddenly all the forum lovers turn on them as well.

I agree with you 100%. You fuckers are all immature and can't face the fact that a band gets big and originally people who weren't into the band (frontrunners, posers) are now into them because they blew up. It's trendsetting. It's what the pop world likes. They like whats big. But if you fuckers (whoever) turns on Brand New when they take over the world when their album drops than your not better than the frontrunners or the posers. Your just selfish. Give me my points back bitches. Got them taken away just because I love FATA. WTF?! I get no recognition when deserved just because I have red dots next to my name lol.

The reason the two sound nothing alike is cause the first record was not very good at all :headshake , where as the second was awesome :animateds
Let's have a sexy party
no sexy party cuz i think their first album was awesome, where as the second album was easier to listen to but less satisfying...
make up or no make up, i've always enjoyed their live show
bitch bitch bitch...

I agree with you 100%. You fuckers are all immature and can't face the fact that a band gets big and originally people who weren't into the band (frontrunners, posers) are now into them because they blew up. It's trendsetting.
I don't like them because they are all around horrible, try so hard to be ghoulish and fall flat on their faces, and because their music is stale, boring, unoriginal, and simple. They're like a faux-goth-rock version of Fall Out Boy.
Come on man, FATA? :headshake

Um, maybe it's just me, but the second album and first album sound nothing alike.

i have never gone into a forum of a band i didnt like just to cut it up.... there are alot of things i dont like on this site buddy.. but im not here to piss people off.. im here to relate to people. cause we all have something in comman.. just admit the fact that you're wrong, and just cause you hate mcr gave you no right to bash them.. be a man about it.
you know how big of a jerk slade and iamcountrymusic can be... but at least they're man enough to admit when they take things too far or said something inaccurate.
both are good guys though...i beleive they've both called themselves assholes to me.
so for the last time.. give up your grudge and go to another forum.
P.S what the fuck does him being from brooklyn have anything to do with you being an asshole?

i heard gene simmons was going to be guest vocals for the album and tour, word has it he has a new make up look to market for them.
they are the kiss of the new century. flashy (and gay) gimmick, terrible music, huge fan base.

Idiots. :headshake
i love u!<3

Im not calling myself a god... im just saying.. dont make claims that you have no proof of.
i like mcr... you're entitled to your opinion, and its a valid one.. you dont like their music.. i respect that...i've tried to make this point in other mssg boards too is what possess you to come and trashtalk a band you dislike? just let it slide..
too many people make such an effort to share their distastes that its hard to figure out what is liked now a days! am i right?
anyways man, im not here to start a fight with you... i dont care what you dislike.. instead.. why don't yuou tell me what you like.. negative posts bug me... but its gonna take more than just me saying this for it to stop.. so...for now.. ill let people fight it out.
im done

Its no gimmick. Gerard is the only one who wears make up excessively and hes been doing it well before they were popular. He truly believes in what he does and how can you trash someone for that?
