I just really feel the need to state the senses fail just isn't as bad as many of the people on this forum make them out to be. they may not be the best, but i just don't think they deserve the beatings they get.

here is why you are wrong:
1. this band is overly cliche. more cliche than a suburban kid wearing girls jeans.
2. they do not have talent. show me a song they play that could even be remotley "complex."
3. they think theyre hardcore. tsk tsk tsk.
4. ever see them live? enough said.
5. they completley ripped off a charles bukowski poem title for the name of their awful second album.
6. you need to open your eyes. good music is all around you. evolve. buy a dillinger escape plan album, or even a locust ep and discover music.

I agree that they're not amazing, but if you think a band sucks because they rip off things from other people, you should probably open your eyes and realize that almost every band rips stuff off from other bands/authors/tv shows/movies in one way or another

wow... i got negative scene points for commenting on a shitty attempt at a joke. three times actually.
1. this band is overly cliche. more cliche than a suburban kid wearing girls jeans."
-
1. How are the cliche exactly?
They are cliche in the way they act, the way they write their songs, the way they write their lyrics etc. All they want to do is copy other bands that are popular in this shred of time, so they can make an easy buck. They write music that is easy to like, if you don't ask for much when you choose what bands you listen to
2. they do not have talent. show me a song they play that could even be remotley "complex."
-
2. Fucking A, since when does complexity have anything to do with quality? That's a bullshit reason.
It has everything to do with quality. You can't deny that simple songs like those of Senses Fail are aimed at a mass market with the main intention to sell records, make money. Yes, all bands want to sell records, but only truly shitty bands design their sound to fit a market. A band that takes the time to write a complex record, if it's complex lyrics, music, layers, doesn't try to fit in like SF do, they want to create something new.
3. they think theyre hardcore. tsk tsk tsk.
-
3. They have a screamer in the band, yes. And..?
If having a guy screaming was a way to further their sound, that would be fine. If
having a guy screaming because it makes it easier for "frustrated teens" to like them, that's not fine.
5. they completley ripped off a charles bukowski poem title for the name of their awful second album.
-
5. Straylight Run came from a William Gibson novel. OH SHIT. THEY SUCK ASS.
Actually, your completely right, they suck aswell.
6. you need to open your eyes. good music is all around you. evolve. buy a dillinger escape plan album, or even a locust ep and discover music."
-
6. And for us who like...uh oh, ALL THREE of those? Senses Fail, DEP, and Locust? You need to open YOUR eyes and discover that people have opinions and yours isn't always right, and is probably mostly bullshit."
First of all, I don't believe you can enjoy DEP to the same degree as SF. The complex issue comes to mind. Second, just because you have your own opinion doesn't make it true. Case point: You claim SF are a good band, when it's proven that they're horrible, scene-searching scum at the bottom of music.
Andy owned it. Also has a coordinating avatar and first line in sig.

Their lyrics are horrible and lacking in taste. His voice is amongst the whiniest ive heard, and paired with music that has been done before countless times = *yawn*

You guys are an opinionated bunch. Gotta love that first amendment! So allow me to express my opinion....
Lyrics--The Peedster above me says "They're lyrics are horrible and lacking in taste." Their lyrics are the biggest reason why I think they're a good band. Buddy puts so much more thought into the lyrics instead of just writing every song about how he got dumped. And "lacking in taste"? Well if you take what he's saying literally and not as a metaphor like you should then it makes sense that you would feel that way.
Live Performance--I've seen SF twice. One time they were awesome (one of the best shows i've seen), one time they sucked ass. So it really does depend on which night you see them. And I'll admit that Buddy generally sounds terrible live. So b/c of the live performance issue, they'll never be my favorite band. And I think they're lame ass mother fuckers for leaving drive-thru the first chance got. But I still think they make good music and they're worth listening too.
Senses Fail isn't hardcore and they dont think they are. Yes, Buddy is influenced by bucowski's writing. The phrase "let it enfold you" meant something to him so he used it for the name of his album. That's only a bad thing if you don't give credit to the author.....but he did. So it took 2 pages to establish that some people like SF and some people don't. Wow. Well now that we know that, why don't we just stop this useless argument and try to find some bands that we do agree on so we can enjoy each other's company at those shows.

Age does matter, because I remember being 14 years ago and trying to stick up for shitty music on message boards with older people. And people would tell me what I told him, because it's true. At that age, you most likely don't know jack shit about music yet. And if you're sticking up for Senses Fail, you obviously don't know anything. A band like that is irrelevant once you got older. the recording industry is a business with contracts a band can't just say well we don't want to release a cd on a label because a band the level of senses fail is pretty much their labels bitch. The cd was completely done for almost a year before it was released. i even overhead buddy neilsen admit that drive thru didn't want to release the album because there was no single. remember the cd was leaked before vagrant bought out their contract and it was the exact same cd that was released when it was officially released.

Your points made in response are valid, and yeah, they make more sense than mine. But you can't say that a person at my age "doesn't know jack shit about music yet." What the hell does that mean, anyways? That we can't tell what's good and what's not? I believed that in the past, we both agreed that Dillinger Escape Plan were good. I bet that our musical tastes are more similar than they are unalike. Is that just made..invalid because I also like Senses Fail? Or does it not even matter in the first place BECAUSE I'm fourteen?

You have 48 posts, and I don't recall 46 of them, so I don't remember agreeing about anything with you. Experience matters. Are you going to favor the opinion of someone that's been listening to something for 6 months or a person that's been into something for 6 years? I know you see 9 year olds with Atreyu shirts on now, so people are getting exposed to shitty music at an earlier age, but I can't honestly see many 14 year olds being very knowledgable on genres of music that aren't widely broadcasted on MTV.

shitty, shitty, shitty, lyrics/guitar riffs i can play with my penis/horrible drumming, root note basslines/dick vocals.
so why do i like senses fail? hell if i know, they are just easy to listen to i guess.
but i am 14 so my opinion doesn't count.

Who are you to say that I've been listening to anything for only 6 months? That may be the case with some (most) younger teenagers, but you can't generalize because that's not fair to those who are "real" music fans. Sure there are 9 year olds with Atreyu shirts on. I don't understand it either. But what you saw a 9 year old walking down the street with a shirt of your favorite, least-known band? Would you favor their opinion or still think that it's bullshit simply because of their age?

I never said you did, it was an example dumbass.

I have yet to see a very knowledgeable 14 year old music fan, and I think there are good reasons for that.

It would never happen, and if it did, I'm sure there's a non-musical reason for it (it's his brother's shirt, the band is related to him, etc.). I'm not going to listen or care about the opinion of someone that hasn't even started high school.

I was gonna take a shit on some of your statements and then I saw your favorite books
and I decided you are a smart kid. Of mice and men is amazing. Ever read Slaughterhouse 5?

I haven't seen otherwise yet. Would you rather talk to a 14 year old about music, or someone your own age? The experience and maturity is not there yet. Why do you think everyone laughs about the music they listened to when they were kids? Because they know it sucks now, and they didn't know any better back then.

i AM fourteen, so thats the same thing.
I'm 15, therefore I am a god.
The non-capitalized kind.

Ha, that means you discuss music with yourself.

basically for me ive become alot pickier within the punk/emo/hardcore spectrum after every year that passes.
on top of that, my ears are enjoying alot of different styles now instead to compensate for the pickiness of the music my foundation is based upon.

regarding age... my little sister is 12 and listens to more death from above 1979 than i do.
but, she still likes nofx way too much. so age does matter, because you arent looking for the things that you start desiring for in your music when youre 19.
plus, your peer group will 9 times out of 10 influence you. i never heard of he is legend, but a friend turned me on and i havent looked back. if your peers are rocking from first to last, youre gonna have to listen to it..
and im glad people hate me. its why im fucking here.
bitches.

i love you though. you need to post a bajillion times a day. as soon as i petition to make bajillion a number.
And to whoever left the comment, "Age doesn't matter you idiot. His points are valid", let me tell you something. And if you do still love them, then wow, that's pretty sad.
i like senses fail, i like their ridiculous lyrics, buddy and senses fail are like broadway theater, its over the top, its big.
and you're sad in my opinion because you pick on 14 year olds for what they listen to, wake up pal, 14 year old girls buy more music than anyone else on the planet, so what if your cd collection consists of a million cd's that probably all sound the same, 14 year old girls paid for mark, tom, and travis' houses and everything else. the 14 yr old is the secret weapon to the industry and sticking around for a long time.

I listen to them...in moderation. But I saw them live about a year ago and Buddy was in my face all night with a boogie on his cheek. I cant get that visual out of my head, so that pretty much ruined them for me.
