Here are a couple quotes pertaining to Coldplay, and to U2 vs. Coldplay. This has been talked about quite a bit on the news page, but I kinda wanted to post these here as well, because they pretty much sum up exactly how I feel.
Pitchfork on X&Y:
"Like Coldplay's two previous albums, only more so, X&Y is bland but never offensive, listenable but not memorable. It may be pointless to hate them, but with this album, they've almost certainly become the easiest band on the planet to be completely indifferent to."
I agree completely. I can listen to Coldplay. Sometimes I really enjoy Coldplay. But unless I actually have it turned on, I never find myself really thinking about it. Ever.
Filter Magazine (best magazine out there by far) talking about Bono and Chris Martin's politics:
"[Bono] doesn't claim to have all the answers but never stops questioning the world around him. If that is bad thing, then I'm a bad man. Too often, Bono is the big target, often labeled as preachy. Preachy is when there is no action to follow up the talk, and with this lone man that just isn't true. You have to give him credit and unfortunately there is no one behind him paying attention and learning any tricks. Chris Martin has a message but he will have to do better than literally writing it on his hand. Subtlety is an art. "
Also, Thrice fucking rock.
