I hear alot about The Troubadour, when I was visiting the area no good shows were listed so I didn't get the op to check it out...I did go to some place called Safari Sams, it was kinda strange being in a crappy stripmall but the club was not bad, good sound, had fun.

Scranton... Well, Test Pattern closed down. Bummer. No all ages venues open in Scranton anymore, but Phoenix Cuts (haircutting place) has shows once in a while which is kinda nice. Closest venue is 30 minutes away in Wilkes Barre, Metropolis Cafe. Good venue, gets some great shows once in a while. It accounts for almost all punk shows in the area (asian man records tour, menzingers shows, etc), however it looks extremely sketchy.

There is also a skatepark called Underwood somewhere in Scranton (Taylor I think). Most bands who play it are shit, and I don't really skate, so I haven't gone there.

Just the downstairs is tiny. There are way smaller venues all over the city. Have you ever been to Ramakin's?

Madison, WI.

Probably the Majestic or Barrymore Theatre is my favorite place to see a show, but Madison has shit venues.

Milwaukee, WI would be the Rave. Not the Eagles Ballroom, but the smaller stage and room, technically the "The Rave". The acoustics are amazing in that room, and the people who run the sound board know what the fuck they are doing. I've never had a problem with hearing lead guitar, or vocals, or bass being too overpowering (common at other venues I've been to).

London Astoria - I'll be really sad to see it go; it's becoming a mall =/I've never been Astoria. The last show I went to in London was at Camden Underworld which I really liked. Derby doesn't have much in the way of venues. The Vic used to get loads of cool shows it's a nice tight small venue, but theres just something about it that doesn't quite work right. My favourite UK venues are probably The Joseph's Well in Leeds (even if it's hell to find in the one way system), The Phoenix in Manchester and The Old Angel in Nottingham. The Old Angel has a lousy PA, no air con and the best shows there always seem to be in the height of summer, but there's just something about it that I like.

HOB Sunset Strip is a favorite. Nice area, security guards don't powertrip like the ones at HOB Anaheim, and it's the only HOB in the area that doesn't require parents for kids under 18.
The Glasshouse is marvelous. Love that place.
Chain Reaction has a nice feel but the sound is terrible, as said before.
Avalon and Fonda are also good, even though they're a bit big for my taste.
SOMA was also great from my experiences, don't know what the one guy had against it.
