what is a good quality, but cheap-ish 8-track digital recorder?

There is alot of good quality 8 track recorders for cheap. I have used a Tascam DP-01 Portastudio, its very good if you are just starting out recording.

have a decent computer? i just bought the M box...i dont know what you consider cheap but in the realm of recording shit it wasnt too bad at all....and it fuckin owns so far.

We're currently using Adobe Auditon to record our first cd. All being recorded in an apartment, nice atmosphere.

I'm no expert or anything, but Audition > Pro Tools IMO
