Fall Out Boy (http://www.falloutboyrock.com/)'s latest single "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" debuted on the TRL countdown today at #9 beating out 50 Cent.

A message was posted by Pete at Fall Out Boy's website regarding this situation:
THE TRL TAKEOVER CONTINUES
thanks so much for voting us onto the countdown on TRL today!!! its insane to think about the bands we are up against and how their fans rank in the millions but that we simply have more dedicated and amazing fans!!!! it sent chills down my spine that you guys brought us there. and for everything we\'ve ever put into this band, you payed us back with this. please keep voting on friday, we want to show them we can stay! the phones mean so much more than the web but do whatever you can when it comes to voting.

truefucking love.

Peter

i love this shameful "humbleness," that in essence is a shameless marketing strategy of insinuation. I will vote when a band is impudently honest... "I want to be on TRL for my band to attain such a monumental status. To enslave you to our vision, I am going to sound as real as possible by opening your hearts with sincerity that support is solely gratified with the intention that we are revolutionizing a segue to more "worthy" music than the precedent rulers in the pop culture dominion. This is for no greater cause, but my personal desires."

Guys stop bitching...don't worry you can still like FOB even if they get big...stop getting your panties up in a bunch and be happy for them.

Does anyone here even watch TRL such that we would care to vote? I like FOB and everything, but it's not like I am going to be glued to my TV to see if they beat out Hilary Duff or whatever...

ok honestly, i dont mind when a band gets big because obviously thats the goal. but when they reach a level of this i get a little annoyed because now for a band that used to have tickets the day of to their shows,i have to get months in advance to compete with little girls. thats waht gets me. anyway good luck to them its good that they are representing a whole type of music that mtv hasnt been accustomed to

yea, just cause Fall Out boy is on tv doesn't mean you have to hate them, what would happen if all of a sudden Thrice was one trl? would they automatically be lame and everyone who likes them bashed?
either way, i'm voting

Congratulations to them, they deserve some recognition for their hard work, no matter what everyone is saying out there.

Thrice is nowhere near poppy enough to be on shit like TRL. Fall Out Boy on the other hand....yeahhhhh.

weird, cos i think fall out boy actually got less poppy with this release.. eh. trl kids will forget all about them past the two songs they hear anyway, so i don't really care. i'd vote. fund the band some t-shirts that bandwagon-jumpers will buy, etc.

who knows, maybe FOB could be the gateway drug for slightly smarter music listeners... even if they are wasting their time watching trl.

Atavan Halen would make them Good Charlotte huge

Well I always thought fob was pop crap who unfortunatley used a really good band name. As soon as you use FOB and 50 Cent in the same sentence...it's time to stop caring.

I find it funny that people make such a buzz about Fall Out Boy getting popular and voting for them on MTV, after seeing MCR get popular and noone giving a shit. Not to mention the general concensus around Cork Tree was that it was not spectacular as a whole, and Three Cheers was like a top 10 record last year.

it dosnt matter if Thrice isnt poppy enough, i'm just saying if they ended up on TRL somehow would everyone then say they are lame and people who like them bashed? i dont care if Thrice is poppy or not, stuff happens

I think it is time that everyone realizes that the scene is pop culture and to really be scene, you need to not be scene hahahaha

shitty bands go on TRL, it happens.

I'm sure Pete will bitch about Corporate America or something though.

who the hell cares? at least the ataris and yellowcard weren't this gay when they broke into the mainstream. they didn't waste our time justifying it and then waste our time talking about how excited they were.
