All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, this was probably the best slasher/horror movie of the year (or two years ago depending on how you look at it), and because of some unfortunate actions (blame those fuck head brothers the Wiensteins) it looks like its not going to get a wide or even dvd release here in the states even after numerous (http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/all-the-boys-love-mandy-lane-2008) positive reviews and a good showing in Europe. Its a shame because this was such a good movie, with a decent twist ending.

I was stoked on this trailer when it came out, think I posted it way back in the other thread. Finally found a torrent a month ago but haven't gotten the time to watch yet.

its worth watching, probably my third or fourth favorite film I saw this year....

Its really only noteworthy becasue of all the shit that gets a wide release (ie the eyes remake), but here a good film sets on the shelf for another year with no possibility of a release date.

Speaking of DVD releases, [REC] seems to be another film where a DVD release in the states seems unlikely despite the success (I think) in Europe.

hopefully, and I'm speaking with little hope, their holding this back inorder to cash in on the DVD release of quarantine, maybe a same day type of thing, though I doubt it.

I read somewhere that rec would be out on dim extreme when quarentine was released on dvd.

Downloading now. I definitely remember seeing the trailer and being impressed..should get around to it within the next few days.

Any other overlooked horror from this year, Justin, that you think I should check out.

Downloading coo, I posted a free stream if you don't want to wait....?

As for other under the radar type of stuff, give me tonight to think about it, I rented so much shit this year. One that does come to mind, and which was my second favorite film this, was Signal. A low budget inter-connected three-part story, about a 'signal' that turns people 'insane'. You never know by the quality and story telling that this was made on a budget less then the normal car.

that sounds right, i watched quarentine online and couldn't beleive how bad it was compared to [rec], even though they changed only minor details.

check the wizard of gore remake for crispin glover lulz. it wasn't that good, but he was ridic.

rec and inside have also been pimped since the first post of the horror thread so check those out if you haven't yet.

Really? I read that Sony Pictures had the rights to [REC] and are going to release it around that time, too. Speaking of which, Quarantine is coming out on DVD in February, which means [REC] should be coming out around March/April/May unless Sony Picture/Dimension Extreme (whoever holds the rights) decides to push it back even farther.

As for All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, I'll have to wait for a DVD release whenever it (eventually) comes out. I would stream it, but thanks to dial-up internet, I'm stuck without a chance to see it. Heard some great things about it, and only a few people I've talked to disliked it, so I'm interested in seeing it as I haven't seen a decent slasher film in a quite a while.

i was letdown by this.

trailer got my hopes up too high.

was enjoyable, but not a multi-watcher for me.

I liked it. The death scenes were nice and gory, the movie itself looked very stylish, all the characters were watchable. You could see the twist coming a mile off, but it was still enjoyable.

OutPost, for me not as good as Death Watch which had a similar setting, but different story, but still pretty good.

Dead Birds, two years old, but due to an awful name and stupid dvd cover, I only got around to seeing it this summer. Wonderful period set horror movie. I love horror movies set in other times, and having minored in Civil War history this thing combos two of my favorite things. I'm willing to throw out there that with a bigger budget this could have been a great film, as of now its only good.

ejwdhipRQJU
Jack Brooks Monster Slayer, I didn't really care for this, but many people did, so I thought it should be mentioned. The trailer made it look like a throw back to Monster Squad, but the actual pic was a poor attempt at a hor-omedy.

fIBwVHuZC74
Reek II, No Man's Land, Cheap, goofy and gory. This was a no-brain sequal to an ok original. The so-called special effects are halirious and the story is so stupid its fun. Other people on this site hated this, but I found it to be one of the funnest horror films this year.

9KmNJZ64N4Q
Botched, another hor-omedy.....that again I didn't really care for. But its noteworthy because of the over the top gore/violence. Its like an opera in cheeseiness (is that a word? or did I spell it right?). I'm not sure if the intent was to make this movie a joke, or if it was just the cumulation of a bad script and a shitty budget. Either way its worth seeing even if you have to fast foreward through most of it.

....that's all I could think of right now, I'm sure there were others that I saw earlier this year, but nothing other then Signal had much of a lasting impression.

I'm not a huge fan of horror, but I like suspense movies fairly well. I'm a sucker for a fantastic story, and I can definitely be down with twist endings.

Any of these, in particular The Signal and Mandy Lane, worth checking out?

Mandy Lane, maybe, but I doubt unless you really enjoy horror that you find The Signal entertaining. Its completely a genre pick.

Mandy Lane is a throw back to the 'camp' horrors/slasher flilms of the 80's. There are no monsters, or supernatural shit, just a killer and a group of "victims" isolated in a country home. Hell I showed you how to see it for free, what else do ya want? Just watch the sucker.

The Signal was ridiculous. I couldn't tell if it was funny or scary. I had no clue what was going to happen next though, there was some really weird shit in that movie.

The middle was supposed to be a horr-omedy, and it was my least favorite of the three parts (though many people on this site found it to be their favorite), but I found the introduction and conclusion sections to be some of the most enjoyable, brutal, honest, and fun horror I've seen in years. By far the best completely independent film I've seen since Blair Witch.

Well cancel that....i was digging to see if it was a wide release or a limited one, and that date's been postponed.

One of the best genre movies in years and thanks to the Weinstein fuckers we'll probably never get a proper release.

Outpost looks grim! What an epic post of trailers haha. Knowing DVDs I could probably find most of these for a fiver, I could afford them but don't have tooooo much money atm. I think it would be better for my concience/enjoyment of the films if I waited until payday haha.

Did the festival circuit and then played in the UK. Never in the US, though. Amber Heard is about as popular as she's gonna get, so if they're smart, they'd let it loose soon. I dunno, though, as studios suck. It already made, like, a million bucks over its budget, so they'll probably just let the reels rot and rake in DVD sales.

Yeah, I love Jocelin Donahue. So, so cute. Her dancing around the house with the huge tape deck makes me smile so big. She is in all types of commercials for, like, Levi's and facial washes and shit like that, too. Rocks.

Watched this movie a few years back and absolutely loved it. One of the few times Amber Heard doesn't annoy me with terrible acting. Just a great atmosphere all around, the twist ending is very disturbing, I really liked it.

senator entertainment, the company that bought the film from the Wienstein tards, has a history of sitting on films. The story is that they lack the resources to give it a direct to dvd release and can't find anyone to co-fund it with them given the nature of the film. They also purchased the American rights to Rohtenburg (a true-ish crime film about a real life German cannibal) but have also refused to release that film even though it was a hit in Europe.

During the San Diego Comic-Con, a special screening was held. Jonathan Levine and the beyond delicious Amber Heard were in attendance. And while there was no specific news regarding the film's domestic release - which has been delayed for years - it appears that a distribution announcement is forthcoming. One of the producers echoed that sentiment via their Twitter account over the weekend. It was originally dating Dimension Films. A release date was set some time ago, but the Weinsteins pulled it at the last minute. Since then, the film has been sitting in limbo. Overseas, it has been released theatrically and on DVD.
