View Full Version : Albums that will probably disappoint you in 2009

With twenty or so "most anticipated of '09" threads, everyone should have thought about next years albums quite a bit by now. So, which one of your most anticipated albums will probably disappoint you upon listening? I'm going to go ahead and say Relapse from Eminem will probably be a disappointment based on the progression he's made from the Eminem Show to Encore.

Cassadaga was poor, his self titled was poor. He's going downhill.

I'm worried about the new Our Lady Peace, I mean Gravity and Healthy In Paranoid Times were alright, each had some great songs but they were no where near as good as Happiness, Spiritual Machines or Clumsy. Raine Maida's solo album on the other hand was fantastic and probably the second best thing that he has done since Happiness. So really I'm afraid that he will go back to the sound from the later OLP albums and I'll be left wishing that he had done another solo album instead.

Actually I wasn't a huge fan of either of those Bright Eyes albums, but I love the self-titled. And I don't think I've actually listened to Bricks. I don't like to judge bands' new material off of live recordings so I don't even usually listen to those.

What exactly did you like about his self-titled? I couldn't find anything redeeming about it..."NYC--Gone, Gone" is all right, but definitely not good enough for me to think the album itself is awesome. And don't get me started on Cassadaga. I don't want to lose faith in Conor Oberst but his last few releases got me thinking his head is too far up his ass right now for him to put out anything of interest.

Completely agreed, plus I have a sneaking suspicion that Jason Lancaster (One of the singers on A Lesson In Romantics that is no longer with the band) was a primary songwriter for these guys. "Jamie All Over" is actually a cover of Lancaster's old band, A Kid Named Chicago.

I think Brand New are going to disappoint a lot of people, since there's this expectation of them to completely change musical direction on every album. I read somewhere that with TDAG, Brand New were "making music that they'd like to listen to themselves". Unless their taste has changed dramatically, we'll probably be given something like TDAG II, and while that's probably going to be perfectly fine for me, it's not going to fly with the fans who seem to just want to see Brand New get progressively more obscure every album.

I was pretty disappointed with One Day Son tbh. There's a few good songs on it but a few just feel too poppy. I like The English way so i do have some hope for the new album.
The Brand New stuff I'm not sure about. I've not really watched any of the lives videos as I'm going to wait for the studio releases before taking a real listyen to it, but i do think it'd be almost impossible to top TDAGARIOM.

Yeah, i much preferred Grand Unification. I thoight all the tracks on it were just great. They had a much better feel to them, but i do like a lot of the very early fightstar stuff too. Specially seen as some of the tracks on GU are just versions of EP songs that have been made a bit better.

Grand Unification was such a good album, I just thought some of the re-recorded EP tracks left a little to be desired. I always prefered the EP versions for some reason.

I can see how people who don't like Brand New don't like it, because there's hundreds and hundreds of better albums out there. What pisses me off, are people who won't listen to anything that isn't scene pop punk and for that reason the Devil and God is beyond them, despite loving Deja and/or YFW. I don't know why they are on a music website in that case.
that anyone would argue that one of the scene pop bands is better than TDAG is perplexing, especially when it all sounds exactly the same..

The lack of anything McMahon related disappoints me (as I'm sure it does anyone who listens to and enjoys his music). And I understand that The Glass Passenger was just released, but it seems that all the new material he writes takes a while to release anyway... I didn't really convey the fact that I wasn't exclusively referring to 2009 with that statement; it was more along the lines of 2009-2011.

Well the reason why it took so long in between EIT and TGP was because he had freakin leukemia.
Atleast he had a reason... Atleast he wasnt like Panic At the Disco and just didnt release a record for 3 years with no reason whatsoever.

The Graduate
I don't think they could possibly live up to the high opinion I have of their last album.

I definitely understand the logic behind the wait for The Glass Passenger.
In a recent interview with Alternative Press, McMahon said he's written a couple dozen partial songs and I just hope that material will be released sooner than Panic's album, especially if there's no reasoning for a long wait.
I'm sure however long the wait is, though, we'll all be shocked yet again at the delivery and talent of Mr. McMahon himself.

This statement will probably be proven to be true too. I'm not sure any of their future albums' choruses will have choruses as catchy as "The City That Reads."

Wrong! The Graduate always prevails.

I have a feeling that I will be disappointed by the new NFG cd, Not Without a Fight, after hearing the single.

Don't base your decision on a single. Singles end up usually being my least favorite songs on albums.

I agree a little bit with your statement, but New Found Glory has been slacking lately with the split EP and their last full length Coming Home. I hope it improves to the standards set by Sticks and Stones and Catalyst.

Yeah it took me a little bit to start liking Coming Home. But after a while some of the songs started growing on me. I think every album Jordan's voice gets better though, so that's something to look forward to.

Jordan does have great range for his vocals on all of the previous albums, so here's to hoping that it stays the same.

I thought the ep songs were among the best stuff they've ever written

Not only does he have a great vocal range, but also a very distinguishable voice which is undoubtedly my favorite New Found Glory quirk.

The Reel Big Fish covers album will probably disappoint, from what I've heard already. I love RBF though.
