All Time Low
The AUDITION
Hey Monday
The Friday Night Boys
Sparks the Rescue

So this tour is drawing to a close, with the final stop being mine tomorrow in Clifton Park, NY. Not a fan of any bands on the bill except All Time Low and Sparks, I just can't get into The AUDITION for some reason. So my question is: has anyone attended the previous stops to maybe hook a brother up with an All Time Low set-list? I'm hoping they throw in Circles as a little Christmas gift...

So I just thought I'd write up a little review of the show last night, as I have nothing else to do.

We got to Northern Lights a little late due to the snowy rape of New York, just in time to catch the last few songs of Sparks the Rescue's set. The songs I caught were "I Swear That She's the One", "Hello Mexico", and "My Heart Radio". I have to say, these guys definitely impressed and have a surprisingly tight live show. It really left little to be desired, and they were spot on the whole time. Really nice guys too, they said they wanted to meet every one of us, and they held up their end for anyone who was interested.

Next up were The Friday Night Boys, a band that I just have alot of disdain for. I won't get into why, but with that being said I left all that at the door and gave them a shot when they came on. They pretty much played most of their new EP and one old song. They didn't sound bad, and the crowd was certainly into them, but not due to anything they did, that's for sure. The majority of the time the band was stationary, and I swear the singer seemed like he'd rather be doing his taxes then spending his time performing for us, which is a shame because the crowd really treated them quite well. The rest of the guys seemed pretty nice though, especially the guitarist who was the most lively on stage as well as the one who I saw mingle the most with fans after the show.

Hey Monday picked up their weapons next, and at first I was impressed. They burst onto the stage with the only song I've heard by them, "Homecoming", thrashing around without really compromising their accuracy. It was a great start, but from there they kind of seemed to lose it a little bit. Maybe it's because I wasn't familiar with them, I don't know. When the acoustic came into play, the singer wasn't satisfied with the sound quality and she had the song restarted atleast once, I think maybe even twice. They didn't really seem to regain their footing after that.

Next was The AUDITION, who, as I've stated, are a band I've tried to get into but just couldn't... until now. These guys know what they're doing up there under the lights, and they were easily the best performance that I've seen in a long, long time. Tight, accurate instruments backed a very game vocalist and a generous amount of stage presence, and honestly, it all came off as if they should be headlining. This is coming from me, and All Time Low is one of my favorite bands ever. However, tonight The AUDITION stole the show. I don't know alot of their songs, but I know they played "Edinboro", "Approach the Bench", "Make It Rain", a new song, and a cover of Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River", which was excellent as I'm a sucker for covers. The new song, by the way, was the highlight of the set and had a big, big chorus. I will definitely be checking out the new album.

Finally, the cries of hundreds of teenage girls were answered as All Time Low made their Capital Region debut. They played the same exact set as the poster above me reported, with maybe a few slight order changes. The crowd came unglued as Alex 'laid claim to the evidence', and didn't settle down until the end of "The Girl's a Straight-Up Hustler". There were alot of the jokes you'd expect from ATL, and you could tell they were having alot of fun up there. Examples include Jack kicking a fake baby into a wall, Alex changing a verse in "Holly Would You Turn Me On"(Just one more fix/To keep Jack sucking dicks), and my personal favorite, spotting some douchebag crowd-surfing when they weren't even playing, bringing him on stage, and embarassing him. However, there were some nagging flaws. The joking around dragged on for too long at points, and they easily could have fit three more songs AND still had some time to mess with the crowd if they hadn't taken so much time with their antics. Also, I don't know how else to put it except the live sound mix was terrible. Everything bled into everything else, and ironically enough, the production of the headlining band sounded amature in comparison to their predecessors. On top of this, it sounded like Alex's voice was quite a bit off at points, which was a bummer after hearing recent reports of his improvement with singing live. Maybe it was just an off night, I'm not going to speculate. Overall though, it was a fun, solid set marred mostly by the excessive talk time and lack of Circles(just some shameless greed). There were also some nice little treats, such as the lead singer of Hey Monday taking over Juliet Simms' part in "Remembering Sunday" as well as a brief cover of "Eye of the Tiger". I definitely enjoyed it.

After the show, alot of the guys stayed to meet the fans. Although I didn't see any of the ATL crew(who very well might have been there, as I left fairly quickly), the majority of the guys hung out. I even bumped into the guitarist of The AUDITION. We fit 1,300 people into Northern Lights for this show, which I think may literally be their attendance record, and if not it's the most they've had in a very long time. So overall, it was an awesome night and I think very few people left dissapointed. Although The AUDITION stole the show, almost everyone else proved why they deserve their spots as well, and I'd reccomend giving them all a chance.
