It's being nationally released this week to my knowledge. It isn't really an indie. The book was quality, I hear the movie is not nearly as quality. If you want to see a great Steve Martin art house movie, watch the Spanish Prisoner. Brilliant!

according to rotten tomatoes, a source that does not lie, its supposed to be just ok. Which dissapoints me, because I was looking forward to it as well. This and Weather man are two movies that I thought were going to be great, and are supposed to be just ok.

AND NOW WHATS THIS!?!?!?! JARHEAD AT A 40% freshness rating. Oh no. it better go up. I cannot take a dissapointment of that grandure.

I was really looking forward to this as well. However, I've been keeping up with the reviews, and they aren't giving this film much praise. Just about every review I've read has held the novel in high reguard, but said it just doesn't translate well to film. Maybe it's just the cynical movie reviewers, but now I may just wait and rent this.

ebert and roeper both loved it. if it had just been ebert that loved it, i would avoid it like the plague(metaphorically speaking. i just normally hate that man's taste in movies), but roeper took a liking to it, and i normally like what he recommends.

It's definitely got some slow parts and I wish they had shown the development of Jason Schwartzman's character a little more, but as a whole I really enjoyed it.

I know this sounds weird, but when you read it try to read it at a faster pace than you normally would. Jack wrote it while he was on speed, so if you read the book slow it'll be tougher.
