what exactly can this all be used for?

It can be used to mix various tracks, but I personally use it to program and export drum tracks. The samples for FPC's real drums in FL5 are great, I'm sure there are better ones out there though. Awesome program.

You can create drums tracks to play over if you dont have a drummer. (something i do alot). You can also make alot fo electronica stuff. Its freakin great.

You can get the demo which has alot of the features showcased, but no save feature. However, the demo's export function does work, so you can export seperate tracks. You can get it online at www.fruityloops.com. If you look hard on P2P I bet you could pirate yourself a full version copy. You can buy the full version, but I warn you, it's not cheap.

I found it on a P2P, I just use it to make electronica beats for now. I still need to play around with it to be able to fully know its power haha

That is how I use Fruity Loops. I intergrate it with Acid Pro when i want to throw vocals or guitar on there.
