That's impressive number for Coldplay... but it's nowhere near NSYNC's 2.4 million first week sales back in 1999.
And yes... I keep track of all of NSYNC's sales records.
so someone fill me in...those A7X numbers are probably a little disapointing to the band and label right? or is that average for a major label debut that doesnt get radio play (that i know of at least)?
awfmike
06/14/05, 04:27 PM
avenged had a pretty average debut.. not too dissapointing. they basically were going on their underground credibility and word of mouth, as you wont see much of a push on major markets.
still decent numbers.

Finch - 41,528
Avenged Sevenfold - 29,286
Anyone else kind of suprised by finch selling over 10,000 more records than a7x? As a big finch fan I love to see them do well but due to the album being pushed back so many times and the sucess of a7x's last album I expected them to sell at least as many albums if not more than finch did. And I would also love to know how many albums Motion City Sold last week since I feel there record was the best of the releases.

I thought it was a bit surprising at first, too, but you have to realize you're talking about FINCH. Yeah, Avenged Sevenfold got pretty big with the Hot Topic crowd and the horrendous music video showing such, but it's still Finch, essentially the martyr for every non-technical "sing/scream" band that followed WIITB.

Im pretty sure FOB didnt sell that many, Im fairly postive that I remember the scans being around 40,000-50,000. But the #9 is correct for sure

I don't think the leak hurt MCS that bad, some albums like this take time to get word of mouth out there. Epitaph really pushed the promos in the last week before the album, but it wasn't an all on on slot for a month (or months) like, say, Fall Out Boys promo was. It'll pick up, and they are probably one of those bands that sell more at shows than kids walking into Best Buy looking for something new to buy.

Seeing numbers like Coldplay's this week is amazing to me. Being in a band of my own, I got excited when we moved a thousand records over the course of a year. That really is a fucking huge number of albums and I give them credit.
I too am disappointed and pretty shocked that Motion City Soundtrack didn't make the top fifty. In my mind, this was a major label album (Tom Lord Alge did some of the mixing ... he's the best in that corner of recording, in my opinion) that really would've benifited from major label money, much like Fall Out Boy's did. Regardless, I think it'll do well and that they'll probably make the jump after this.
Speaking of Fall Out Boy, I think their numbers will continue to be steady, if not increase. They were #7 on TRL today ... that audience is starting to eat them up. It's what happened to My Chemical Romance all over again.

i think it did. there was alot of word of mouth about this cd.... 3 MONTHS AGO. alot of buzz was created and died out even before the cd came out. i think its a shame. unlike the new Finch cd(which i love) only leaked 2 weeks before release date so all the buzz was still around for the opening week. I'm sure the MCS will sell better as time goes but eh i guess i was hoping better.

avenged sevenfold (30k) isn't bad considering their last effort only had first week sales of 5k.
finch (41k) isn't that great though and I was expecting more. Especially because WIITB sold 67k in the first week. I quite like the new album.
coldplay's sales are phenomenal and they deserve it, i'm a big fan of X+Y.
green day totalling at 3.5m someone said above is insane too.
motion city soundtrack - not sure what they got but don't worry if its not great first week sales because their last effort sold 78k and only had a first week of 2.1k. Once they are on the road supporting it, have a video and from playing warped, their sales will boost dramatically.
i'm interested in seeing figures for the warped compilation because at one point it was outselling both avenged sevenfold and finch.
