Agreed. Fucking beautiful movie.

Liam Neeson was fucking wonderful. Christian Bale was OKAY as far as acting goes -- he was kinda awkward when under the mask but I have a feeling the director wanted him that way.

I love, love, love the story. Wow. Very impressive in every direction. No bullshit.

I fucking loved it. I'm gonna see it again soon.

Amazing movie. I am glad to see that they are going in the right direction with the Batman movies. I also agree that the director probably wanted Christian Bale to have that sort of tone in his voice. Anyways everyone go see it as soon as possible because it is so incredibly amazing.

Keaton played wayne as sort of an absent minded billionaire.. I liked the Bale portrayal of Wayne as the play-boy I remembered from the comics. I did like Keaton under the mask ALOT as batman .. but his fighting style in the movies was very stiff and chorographed (in my opinon) .. Bale moved a lot more fluidly through the fight scenes and packed an extra punch to a few key moments (when flass gets yanked to the rooftops, I was like: HOLY FUCKING SHIT - now that is Batman - he's pissed, he's mean, and he's a fucking stud) ..

Amen to that .. I wasn't that big a Spidey 2 fan (the fact the effing world saw him w/o his mask on, and the cheeesy crucific scene really bugged me ..) this however (coming from a huge comic dork in his younger days) was the definitive comic-driven movie .. I think it topped xmen2 for me (which i throught was brilliant)

Cillian Murphy (The Scarecrow) was fucking great too.

The weapons, ride, fighting -- flawless. Wow.

Spider-Man can lick my fucking balls.
he played dr. Crane so well .. i was impressed.

hell .. even katie holmes did a good job.. i was worried about her, but walked out w/o hating her acting or character :) which was a huge surpise for me..

No bullshit love-making scene, too. I was so happy about that, seriously. We didn't get one ounce of uncessary shit. This movie owns my summer movies so far.

He was a stud .. and I don't remember ever seeing him in a role quite this way .. when George Lucas isn't writing his lines he does a marvelous job as an actor.. great casting, great direction, and some marvelous/yet believable technology.

When that one dude gets YANKED into the back of the container on batman's first outing .. i was so hooked.

I agree. And this movie was really dark. Definitely not for the kids. There were a lot of things in it that suprised even me. But I will agree that Cillian Murphy did a great job. Also, I actually liked Batman Returns a lot but it's the one that I hear the least about.

06/15/05, 05:19 AM
I fucking loved it, beyond the action parts, I really liked how much they explain Wayne's character, since the first hour of the movie is much more dialogue based. I'm not sure if I like Begins more than the first, but it's definately up there, when I see it again I'll probably decide.

The scarecrow also came out as badassed, I was nervous about him at first when I saw the inital previews, I remember watching the "Batman: The Animated Series" show, and being terrified of the scarecrow, but how they adapted him was really well done, and made a lot more sense than having a literal scarecrow villain.

I personally really liked Bale as Batman, in my opinion equivalent to Keaton's performance, and a million times better than either Val Kilmer or George Clooney.

Overall a badassed movie all around.

Absolutely amazing. Seriously, I was blown away. My only two complaints are the sore underuse of Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy is creepy as hell) and Bale's voice when he's Batman. Other than that, its amazing.

Dude, I'm with you. Grew up loving Burton's two films and watching the cartoon. I was a bit wary of this because on Batman: The Animated Series I always hated the character of Ras Al-Ghul. He was handled decently, but I can't wait to see how Nolan handles the next film's key villian (you know who I mean) because, if executed properly, the new villian can be scary as shit.

Cillian Murphy was great as Scarecrow. He had the look, the insanity, and damn was that mask creepy. Why wasn't he in the movie more?

I definitely agree with Tate; best comic book movie ever (and I love the two X-Men films). I loved the acting, the angles, the fighting sequences, the color, texture, costumes, storyline, etc. Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow) was by far my favorite. I just wish he was utilized a lot more. I just love that style of acting and charisma to a villian. I, at first, didn't like Bale's voice while under the mask, but then I realized they probably wanted it that way; it pretty much fit the voice you'd expect to hear in the comic book / graphic novel were it to speak. Man, this is one intense movie (i.e. the visuals for Scarecrow's weapon; stunning). This blows Spider-Man away. Btw, everyone cheered at the end of it in my showing. And, I definitely agree about the ending. Stellar. I'll probably go see it again today and I already can't wait for the next installment.

Batman is my Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, etc. and I can say I'm very well-pleased.

I probably won't be seeing it today just because I have plans.

But when I do go see it, it will be at an IMAX theater hopefully.

It'll be fucking sweet. All I'll see is Batman... no annoying cell phones out of the corner of my eye. Just Batman.

The same goes for Willy Wonka when it gets released. IMAX all the way.

well...best comic book movie ever. why? lets see...the director, chris nolan, yeah he did a lil movie called momento, which is also one of my favorite movies. the whole approach to this movie was correct--from start to finish. choosing bale as batman just made sense...notice how the scenes from the beginning how he was so much smaller? filmed during the time of the machinist during which he lost 60lbs....then later on you see him and he is fully in kickass mode. wonderful acting too....which i cant really say about my other favorite movie of the year *cough* star wars *cough* great use of technology/science to explain everything. loved the plot to take over gotham...wasnt some stupid scheme, actually had some validity to it. my ONE problem, SPOILER--

since i happen to be a sciene/tech kid, was the fact that the microwave machine would vaporized the water in anything...human cells...plants...everything. and that amount of radiation typically generates a flash...so people wouldnt really care about going crazy from the toxic but more about the layer of skin/tissue that was just vaporized...

STILL...awesome movie. how PERFECT wast he ending!!!? AMAZING

Just a quick bit of info...

For those of you who think this movie is a prequel, it is not. This movie was meant to restart the series and you are basically to believe the other movies do not exist.

Hopefully the rumors of two more Batman's turns out to be truth...cause 2 more of these movies will make my movie life meaningful now that Star Wars is done.

this moving blew me away. Everything was fantastic, sucks that there wasnt the rumored new Green Day songs, but still, the cast, direction, and story were all sensational. Yeah, I couldn't agree more...except for one little addition...they HAVE to keep Christopher Nolan as director...his choice to sparingly use CGI and go back to traditional special fx was such a great call. I heard in an interview that they chose to do that because Batman is human, and they didn't want him doing things that would be impossible for a human to do. Very impressed, and I'm really glad they are taking the comic book route and just restarting everything.

Oh...and I thought they had very well placed and well done humor additions. Wasn't too much and it certainly wasn't too cheesy.

I went to a midnight show yesterday and suprisingly it wasn't as packed as star wars and spider-man was but it didn't matter. The movie was probably not only the best Batman movie but the best movie I've seen in a while. So metaphorical and moving. I get chills during multiple parts just watching the whole tale unfold itself. Simply stunning.

This is a must see movie ASAP!!! Hands down the best Batman movie in my opinion and Bale is the best Batman. OF course this movie is also called Batman Begins so its much more directly and pretty much all about Batman where the other movies included more backstory to the villains.
They really break it down on so many psychological levels and give you so many friggin explanations and reasons for why Batman becomes Batman, and why he can become nothing else.

Its such an amazing movie and really really raises the bar on comic book movies simply because its not really a good comic book movie as it as a good movie that happens to be based on a comic book. While the Hulk seemed liked it had the most drama in it, Batman Begins has the drama that you actually care about and its never boring.

As for the "Batman voice", at first I thought it was kinda funny too, but then I realized that he is clearly just hiding his identity and makes alot of sense and then I was surprised that no other director has thought of this. I mean, when we talk about secret identities, ........Robin's mask is pretty...useless...and what about Superman.....dude takes off his friggin glasses and no one recognizes him??!?!? come onn!!!

The focus on style and mood and how Batman moves is just awesome. It goes with the whole intimidating legend element and the fear theme. Instead of overchoreographed fight sequences and CGs up the asshole, Nolan kept the humanity in the movie and kept it realistic in its own sense (as opposed to say the last Matrixes for example).

Ok I've said way too much. GO SEE IT!!!!

that was a HUGE contention point of batman fans about "batman 1" (burton's batman in 1989) .. Joe Chill killed batman's parents.. that's how the comic book read. Burton changed it for his movie .. which I was very disapointed about -- this is movie (begins) is very, very, true to the comic book. And i'm stoaked to finally have a backstory explaing the suit, cave, gadgets, etc.

The great thing about this Batman movie is it took the theme of fear, and really made a well organized argument through Batman, instead of the other way around. IT took Batman and the story apart to make sure that they were developed correctly. The writing was perfectly dark and deep for a comic book story, and while not ground-breaking the dialogue was perfectly executed. This is going to be the first of many of this Batman series, not only because of the teaser, but because of the perfect unison of everyone on the project, and the great first chapter that Batman Begins was in explaining every essential aspect with style, meaning, and care.
*The voice of Bale threw me off slightly as well, but like others I figured it was just to disguise his alter ego's voice, Bruce Wayne, from Batman. Bale as Bruce Wayne was perfect though, in every aspect of his character development and emotion. There is reason behind his playboy image, his desire for justice, and this film depicted the man inside the Bat.

I have always been a Marvel Comics dude and I loved the X-men and Spiderman :spidey: movies, but this one sounds pretty good. I will still always think its lame that Batman has no superpowers though.

Just a quick bit of info...

For those of you who think this movie is a prequel, it is not. This movie was meant to restart the series and you are basically to believe the other movies do not exist.

Hopefully the rumors of two more Batman's turns out to be truth...cause 2 more of these movies will make my movie life meaningful now that Star Wars is done.

ok i was a little confused, i havent seen the movie yet, but by lookin at the previews and then learnin its from when Batman started, i was like hmm how is it that the technology is better for when he started...but if its not a prequel then i understand...

Absolutley right. All of the other batman movies had some sort of corny plot along with pointless dialogue. This was the shit, and Christian Bale indeed nailed the batman. I understand this is way off the subject, but seeing how this is a music site I will go ahead and ask.... did anyone else think that the doctor for the insane asylum looked just like Tyson from the All American Rejects. Anyway, this was one of the best movies I have seen in a while.

First off, a disclaimer: I'm not a comic buff. I don't know my Michael Keaton from George Clooney Batmans, partly because comics were not a part of my childhood, partly because I'm only 20 and wasn't old enough to get into the movies from the get go, and partly because I'm lame. But I have seen the Batman movies at one point or another, and this is by far my favorite. It's dark, good acting (especially certain actors), great special effects, and void of cheesy/lame humor. By the way, the back story of Batman is great.

this movie was fucking horrible: Shitty story, no character development, just plain awful. Christian Bale was awesome in American Psycho tho...

this movie was awesome: orchestrated score throughout, good story explanation, and well-choreographed fight sequences.
HOWEVER i still have to say Bale as Batman < Bale as BATEMAN!!

Batman Begins is hands down the best movie of 2005. i fucking loved this movie. this movie blows Spiderman, X-Men, and any other super hero flicks out of the water. Bale is the mother fucking man. everything about this movie was spot on with the comics. Batman Begins is a fucking masterpiece.

Wow, dumbass. Where were you the first part of the movie where we learned about FEAR? How it made him into Batman, how he used it against his enemies, how his enemies were planning to use it to destroy Gotham -- ahh forget it, I just noticed somebody already clowned on your ass.

My favorite movie of the year so far. They finally got it right. Nolan said in an interview, if they do a second one, he kinda wants to toy with the Long Halloween story...which can be done.

Spoiler Alert?:

If Falcone got over the fear Toxin, they can DEFINITELY do The Long Halloween. Nolan said he would have Harvey Dent in the story and turn him to Two-Face at the end of the movie, like in Long Halloween. The Joker also has a big part in that story. If you haven't read it, go to the bookstore and sit in there and read it or buy it. Buy all the books Time Sale and Jeph Loeb worked on together. Fucking amazing.

Wow talk about characters serving the story and not the other way around. This film was probably the best film I have ever watched in theatres. 3 hours of action packed into 2 hours of screentime.

that was a HUGE contention point of batman fans about "batman 1" (burton's batman in 1989) ..

Yeah, I thought that was super rad. They actually showed all of that taking place instead of it all just appearing. I also liked how they portrayed him as human and how he actually got injured and how he didn't always "win" if you know what I mean.

question to all the comic bookers.... in the book, does the man who kills bruce's parents become the joker or is that just in the movie?

Not only was that movie amazing... but Katie Holmes actually did a decent job acting! Props to Michael Caine and Morgan Freedman for their kickin' supporting roles. I'm so fucking glad that everyone has signed up for at least two more Batman's. That means they may be able to clean up the shit that Joel Schumaker produced.

this is not that incredible of a movie folks...liam neeson wasn't too good. cillian and christian were. gordon had a ton of cheesy lame lines, and pretty much the entire last 30-45 minutes was a huge action movie cliche. I would give the movie a B and say that it bodes well for the future of the franchise...especially if the crispin glover rumor is true.
