Possibly the best instrumental band to come out of my home state, this fantastic band's excellent 2007 album Land Patterns is perfect for the current dreary winter weather, -30º windchill and all.
Ambient stuff similar to Helios (meets Steve Reich) and like-minded music projects, it's worth checking out for any music fan. Realistically, Vinh and John (Praetor) might be the only ones to like this, but worth a shot anyway.

I didn't know anyone else here had heard this album. Really quality stuff.

Yup. It made my favorite albums of 2007 list. I originally had it at #15, but I'd now venture to put it in the top 7, maybe even top 5.

Gotta love the Steve Reich influence with this album.

Not to get off-topic, but have you looked further into Reich's discography? Highly recommended.

Yup. I was listening to Drumming the last couple of days. Great stuff.
I was watching some stuff Pitchfork.tv had on him from SWSX.

Ah, Drumming may be my least favorite release of his haha.

Ha, oh well. What else would you recommend?
Also, have you heard of Bill Dixon And Exploding Star Orchestra?

All artists mentioned in this thread rule.

Except Bill Dixon & Exploding Star Orchestra, I've never heard of them. Did you ever listen to that Mahavishnu Orhcestra album, Chris?

No, when I finally found a download link, it had expired... I was bummed.

Didn't see this last night. Not really a fan.

So far pretty good but I'm not sure how I feel about the excessive static.

Maybe because it's free jazz?

Perhaps, although I enjoy my share of free jazz.

From the looks of the file size it's lowish quality, but it should do. You will love this.
