So, for all of the people reading the interview, can you introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band?
My name is John Gaviglio and I do primarily guitar and bass. Mike Muldoon is here too, guitar and bass.
Where did you guys all meet each other and how did the band end up forming?
I met Derek in pre-school, Mike in 3rd grade, Marc in 7th grade and Ashley in highschool. We formed in college after some of us we're playing in seperate projects, and then added Ashley after Brandon left the band.
What did all of you guys do previously to being in the band full-time?
We all still have jobs when we're home. I'm a waiter/construction worker/painter, Marc is a Dental technician, Ashley installs tile, Mike is a delivery guy, and Derek is doing some restoration work on a house.
The name Bear vs. Shark definently stands out from most band names. Is there any significance or meaning behind it?
We just thought it was super badass and sounded interesting. It's pretty memorable too.
BVS has a very unique sound. Where did you guys get the inspiration/influence to write the type of music that you write.
Well, we listened to a lot of classic rock and punk, but also are into alot of new stuff as well. We listen to a lot of fugazi and the clash, plus a lot of motown.
The new album Terrorhawk comes out on june 14th on equalvision records. How did you guys get hooked up with a record deal with them?
We sent them a demo and they flew out and signed us. We were pretty fucking lucky.
Is there anything on this album that is different or that will catch fans off guard?
Dana Collie from Morphine plays sax on one song, also the subliminal message will defiantely catch EVERYONE off guard.
Who did you have produce the new album?
Matthew Ellard
When the band gets together to write songs, what is the normal writing process?
Someone has a riff, and we write the song around that riff. Then we fight about how it sounds like another song and we strip it down and do it all over again. Then 3 of us take a smoke break (Derek, Marc, and Ashley) and then Mike and I talk about how we're going to make it so they don't smoke all the time and we come up with another riff.
I see that BVS is going out on the road to promote the new album.Do you guys enjoy living on the road?
No.
Have there been any memorable moments or tours that you guys have been on in the last few years?
Our A/C broke in Texas. IT's summer so that sucks. 110 is the hottest temperature we've ever experienced.
If you had to list your personal top 5 albums of all time, which ones would they be and why?
Mike: USe Your Illusion 2 (GNR), Lonesome Crowded West (modest Mouse),
Doolittle (Pixies), In Casino Out (ATDI), Use Your Illusion 1 (gnr).
John: Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie), Zeppelin 1 (Led Zeppelin), In Casino
Out (ATDI), London Calling (Clash), How It Feels To be Something on (Sunny
Day Real Estate)>
Are there any unsigned or local bands that you think we should be looking out for?
Heads Will Roll, Lingua Franca, Red Party, Killdrama
That’s about all the questions I have for you guys, is there anything you would like to say to all the fans and readers out there in absolutepunk.net land?
