So I'm playing a show this Friday, but my voice just seems out of whack. It almost seems like I'm about to be sick, but that's not quite it.

Anyway, does anybody have any tips on how to soothe the vocal cords a few days before a show? Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I know there are sprays you can buy. Just make sure you drink lots and keep your voice in check for next time.

Yeah, I'm going to be drinking a bunch of fluids. Do you think something thinner like water or something thicker like milk would be better for me?

I've also heard eating fattier foods helps in the studio day-to-day, but I don't know if that would help me this early before the show.

My friends also used to eat packets of honey before a show. They claimed it was gold. Just thought of that one, I'm gonna have to do that.

Thanks.

Do not drink milk, it willl only make your throat more dry. Water is the way to go.

Have you noticed it for more than one day?
I know that with me I might sing really well one day and the next my voice might not be quite up to par. I'm not really sure what effects it but somedays i can sing better than others. Anyways you might just be having an off day.

drink tea (perferably green with honey), and don't talk to much (seriously, haha). also, drink plenty of fluids, but it sounds like you've already got that figured out

True, it might just have been today...I mean I kinda noticed something up yesterday, but I just kinda shrugged it off. Today, I felt I couldn't hit some of the notes I normally can, and I wasn't able to distort my voice the way I normally do either. I felt flat or just off a few times I played around on the guitar, and I had a raspy feeling in the back of my throat. We'll see what sleep does.

These are all great suggestions, though. Thanks guys.

Warm fluids can help you sooth the throat and relax the muscles. Cold fluids contract the muscles in your throat which makes it harder to hit certian notes

Drink honey before you sing. Do vocal warm ups. Room temperature water.

Yea it does.

have you ever heard of "Entertainer's Secret?" It's a product for vocalists to help keep the throat lubricated. I used a bottle once a couple of years ago and it was good stuff. A quick web search turns up this link: http://www.entertainers-secret.com/

Warm water, at that. (Not necessarily room temperature) Cold water only intensifies it. If it's cold when you get it just swish it in your mouth for a second. Does the job.

I find it funny that people actually tried to help this guy. He was clearly bragging about having to sing at a gig.

Only drink tea with NO CAFFEINE. If the tea has caffeine in it, it will dry out your vocal chords just like soda. Also I would suggest searching Youtube.com for some vocal warm-ups or exercises because I have actually found some really helpful things there.

Daily vocal warm-ups/cool-downs and exercises can help with this a lot.
