View Full Version : The government just quit.
The king accepted it after a few days. So now my country doesn't have a real government.
I wonder what will happen now...
We'll give you a hand. You can have Tony Blair.

From what I understand, their Supreme Court ruled that the government had been unlawfully meddling around with the rescue of one of their banks. So their PM was forced into making his resignation.

That doesn't sound too bad. We'll just send George Bush over there to help and you guys can just keep him once you're done.

Well, Belgium is a small country.
Ever since the elections in 2007 there are problems with forming a government (quite complicated, check wikipedia or so if you want more info on this).
With the economical crisis, Fortis, a bank, was going bankrupt and there was a lawsuit. (shareholders vs directors I think)
Apparently the government interfered and that's prohibited. (separation of powers)

I get it now. I've always wanted to go to Belgium/Western Europe.

There's always talk that Belgium might split into two, you think this is a possibility now or is this never going to happen? If this is a stupid question, I'm sorry I just don't know too much about Beligum politics.

My country doesn't have a real government right now, and hasn't for about 2 years now! Welcome to my world!

It's not a stupid question.
It's definitely possible, but I don't think it will happen soon, because there are still a lot of people that don't want it.
But if something happened, a catalyst, things could happen very quickly.

Consider yourself lucky. You're better off having no government than a government with Bush as president.

Well considering he's gone in 3 weeks and Obama is the President I'm going to have to say that statement wasn't really worth making now was it?

Well, we have had a government. A good and functional one? Not so much...

Four weeks, actually. :-p
You're right, though. It wasn't completely necessary for me to say at this particular point in time... and hopefully I won't have to replace "Bush" with "Obama" within the next four years (though I highly doubt that will be obligatory).
Anyway, I'll be wishing Canada luck in the establishment of a new government and even more luck that it results in something superior to the past eight years of America's governmental stress.
