Sorry if this thread disturbs or pisses anyone off, but I just want to say how badly some people are being grown up. Whatever they ask for, they get, it annoys me so much because through my life I have had to save for what I want and work my freaking a** off to get it. And these kids blow their cash on the most useless stuff ever, some of us actually use what we buy! For example this kid is bragging about how his new guitar is "amazing" and "the best ever", even though he is a casual player and plays through his beginner amp still. The guitar costs over $1000, think of how much better spent that could have been towards homeless people and poverty, or donate it to charity instead of buying a dust-collecter!

homeless people are probably unemployeed

i wish i could feel bad for homeless people, i just cant. i see what they do... they beg for money instead of getting off their ass and get a job.

dont say they cant get a job. yes they can. oil companies hire people who cant read or write. bam job right there. schools hire people who cant read or write either by making them janitors.

I'd spend money on "useless stuff" if I had it. I bet you would, too, if you were raised that way. You don't know what every person is doing with their money. Sure, $1000 on a guitar, but you don't know if they donated, and how much, to a charity.

exactly. i get a little pissed when people start pulling the whole "don't buy anything expensive, could be better spent on... [what have you]". you can like expensive things and STILL donate/volunteer, etc. besides, you can't constantly feel guilty if you do get something overpriced/expensive.

Very ignorant. Odds are, there's a good reason he's homeless other than he just couldn't bring himself to get up and get a job due to intense laziness. That's a common middle class myth. And do you know how hard it is for a homeless person to be hired? They can't afford to get copies of their birth certificate, social security card, work permit, and other things they need to get hired. Come on, man. Common sense. I'm sure there are some lazy ones out there but I'd sat at least half are just people who have run into bad luck (other half are drug addicts).

the library in lafayette gives copies for free. i was born and raised in new orleans. there was alot of homeless people and to be honest, almost 3/4 of them were lazy. i see how little they care and how pathetic they are. infact, there was news of a group of homeless people who killed another one bc he bought a mattress. i also ran into a bum who asked me for money. i didnt have any (legit) so i gave him some free mcdonalds burger coupons. he said no thanks, he was looking for change. he turned down food. he was looking for a joe or beer or something else, but it wasnt necessites. i see stuff like that all the time and you just get sick and tired of the lies why you have no money and why youre begging and all this other crap. now i do wish them the best bc life is beautiful and begging is nowhere to live, but you have to make something about it and get off your ass

Well, technically I guess. But I think it's more that they feel the need to use drugs (at such extreme levels) because they have an underlying mental disorder.. which is the case a lot of times whether a person is homeless or not.

Something like 70% of them. Of course there are lazy people and drug addicts, but the majority of these people just can't hack it.

The world needs equality for all, only then will we realize how poor we really are.

Ok, I'm a capitalist and I'm here favoring the homeless because I enjoy helping the folks that need it and not only during the holiday season.

I know it's terrible when your buddy gets something that you want when you clearly deserve it more... do you have a job? Are you donating your time and hard earned money? Are you becoming more poor so that others can have comfort?

i wish that were so... but its not. theres no way football players will make as much as trash men. theres no way unfortunately that women asians african americans etc will be equal to a white male (im not saying this my personal view, it is just the way society works these days). i know that sounds racist and sexist but i meant that in a bad way. we have equal rights between whites and blacks, men and women, but there is still that certain prejudice

change is needed but still you gotta make it happen and begging isnt gunna do anything

the op has grandiose dreams for how the world should be. Just worry about yourself. Some bums like to be bums, they simply choose to live that life, others are unwillingly brought into by reasons already named. But just do what you go to do and if you can find time to donate that's great. Don't judge others cause they "waste" money in your opinion.

I'm 18 and I'm finishing high school. My Dad has money and he bought me my laptop, car (after driving his ten year old Maxima for awhile), and has agreed to put me through college. He also has paid for a lot of the little things throughout my life like clothes and entertainment (music). I can also count on a pretty nice inheritance.

The difference is I don't EXPECT any of these things. I'm very appreciative of everything he does for me and he knows that, which is why he does it. He's willing to give me what I need to make a life for myself because he knows I'm willing to put forth the effort necessary to do so.

On a slightly unrelated note, I can't stand people who expect other people (their kids especially) to suffer and endure the same hardships they did as a kid, just because they didn't have it any better. Why put forth the effort necessary to earn a comfortable living for yourself if you aren't going to make sure your family can share that?

you say its retarded. if his life was really as wha wha hard as you say, then why would he turn down free food. stop with the ignoring that he turned down free food. its the basis for living. you need it to survive. he wanted money. beggars cant be choosers. you become a little more concious about it when something like that happens. like after katrina, they had all kinds of "organizations" all of a sudden to help the victims, but it turned out to be just a fake one where they pocket money. i dont feel bad unless i absolutely know for a fact that all this happened to make their life so hard and they wont spend it on unnecessities.

Amen.

the library in lafayette gives copies for free. i was born and raised in new orleans. there was alot of homeless people and to be honest, almost 3/4 of them were lazy. i see how little they care and how pathetic they are. infact, there was news of a group of homeless people who killed another one bc he bought a mattress. i also ran into a bum who asked me for money. i didnt have any (legit) so i gave him some free mcdonalds burger coupons. he said no thanks, he was looking for change. he turned down food. he was looking for a joe or beer or something else, but it wasnt necessites. i see stuff like that all the time and you just get sick and tired of the lies why you have no money and why youre begging and all this other crap. now i do wish them the best bc life is beautiful and begging is nowhere to live, but you have to make something about it and get off your ass

There was an unkempt woman who knocked on our door about a year ago. She was wearing overalls embedded in filth, her hair was untidy and protruded in every direction, she had crooked teeth, and sweat was dripping from her face.

After pausing the movie he was watching, my dad got up and opened the door. He noticed the woman's unpolished appearance and immediately recognized her from the neighbor's front yard. She was working hard to replace the hay in their lawn.

The lady asked him, with very little breath, if he could take a look at the neighbor's yard and consider hiring her for the same yard work. He took a glance at the yard, told her it looked flawless and asked her the cost of her service. She told him the amount and said she was done working for the day but would come back the next day to work. She left and rang our doorbell the next day.

Dad answered the door and saw that she'd already replaced half of the hay without even telling him. She then said that she'd finished the job when she got back from getting her truck (mind you, this truck was equally as filthy as herself, so, although she wasn't homeless, she definitely did not have the means to financially support herself with healthy conditions) fixed because it was having problems earlier that day. She asked politely if she could borrow $50 for the finances of the car and my dad said he'd go look for $50.

After closing the door in his face, I asked him if he thought she was being honest about the truck scenario and he said something I'll probably remember for the rest of my life: "To be honest with you, Brennan, I don't know that she was telling the truth. I don't know that she was telling the truth, but I don't know that she was lying either. The best we can do is give her this money and hope that she's using it for the right reasons. If not, let's hope she has a hell of a time drinking that six pack of beer."

GOOD because it's hilarious. I mean, I'm cleaning and all and then in the morning it's a game of "now where did I put that?" ---always a good time!
