I was at the Green Day (http://www.greenday.com) gig in Milton Keynes last night and I thought I would just report back in case anyone is interested. First, Taking Back Sunday (http://www.takingbacksunday.com) and Jimmy Eat World (http://www.jimmyeatworld.com) absolutely rocked the house down and were the best support bands we could ever hope for. Green Day started with the first three tracks of American Idiot, but when they got to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" they reverted back to some classics including "Longview", "She" and some others. In the middle of the show, Billie Joe said he was going to start a band on stage and then he chose three people from the audience to play bass, drums and guitar. The guitarist that was chosen from the audience was a 14-year-old boy and he played on stage next to Billie in front of thousands of people and then when he was done Billie said he could keep the guitar. The show was electric and made use of full pyrotechnics and fireworks which were launched from the roof of the stage. The sight was truly breathtaking and I've never seen a gig on such a large scale. When it came to playing "Wake Me Up When September Ends", Billie was clearly emotional as he was singing a song dedicated to his father on Father's Day and it was a geniunely moving experience. The whole show was incredible and surely cements their status as one of the greatest punk bands of all time, if not the best. The encore was "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Homecoming", and "Good Riddance."

I can't wait to go see Green Day/J.E.W. this summer. It'll be like the Pop Disaster tour all over again...except people won't just be waiting for J.E.W. to finish this time.

Almost everytime i've seen them they do it too, they play the Operation Ivy song 'knowledge.' This one time they didn't do it though instead at the end of the show they smashed all their equipement and burned the drum set. It was the greatest show i have ever seen.
Do they give the guitar away at every show? I know all the shows i have seen they do.

Was that a serious review of TBS? They were fucking terrible, and they always are. Jimmy Eat World were real good, as were Green Day, but TBS were a joke.

Yeah, i've head from a few people that TBS were crap, although they said their new song(s) are good- however on the Sunday they said they were gonna play a new one then proceeded to play This Photograph Is Proof...
Regardless, from what i heard the atmosphere was good, and it was a nice day weather-wise for it. :dweeba2:

Yeah. They always do that Op Ivy-"Knowledge" cover with the kids playing. It is my goal to be one of those kids one day.

Billy did that when I saw Green Day too. Only not only did he give the kid a guitar, he kissed him.

I'm still wondering if Billie Joe gives the guitar away everytime. I know he did at all the shows i've seen.

Yeah. Except at my show he told the kid to do a stage dive first and he did one and it was horrible so Billie Joe goes "eh, that sucked, I'm keepin' the guitar" and then gave it to a roadie.

Yeah it was great. Then Billie Joe did a quality one. The kid basically jogged down the center island of the stage and then kinda hopped off. Billie sprinted and did a superman-style jump and flew a good 10-15 feet.

Dear Green Day,
I love you...I always have, and a small part of me always will...but for the love of everything that is holy, switch around your live set a little bit. I've seen you multiple times over the last 5 years, and it has gotten to the point where I know exactly what Billie is going to say at the exact time in the exact song. Please please please please please, i'm begging you, do something new. AND NO MORE ARENA ROCK EXPLOSIONS BULLSHIT
I still love you

I Went to the show on Sunday and i agree with everything you said apart from i thought TBS were a bit ropey as ive seen them before but i was well impressed and me and my friens were tearing up at wake me up. green day never seize to amaze me and they are the greatest punk band of all time

i was at the show on the saturday,
Tbs: sound wasnt great infact if you didnt know the words or wasnt a fan then you would of considered them to be 'crap' 'poor' whatever.
Jew: were kinda blah still sound wasnt great
Green day: were great as they always are and of course the sound man decided to do his job.
anyone else notice that when they go to shows, the sound for support is never as good as it is for the main act, that not including the performance the band puts on,im just talking about the sound. Anyone?

wait, wait, wait
they played Boulevard of Broken Dreams TWICE? Don't get me wrong, Green Day is awesome and I've always loved them, but that is one of the most overplayed songs EVER.

I think he meant they started to play it and then they went into some classics. Not sure though because i wasn't there.

They played the first three tracks off American Idiot in order...the fourth track is "Boulevard"...when they got to the fourth song in the set, they played other songs instead of it. It's not really that hard.

he said they played the first three, american idiot, jesus of suburbia, and holiday, then when boulevard would have been played, they went to older stuff, and came back to that in the encore. thats what i can gather from it.

Green Day do the same thing every show, its boring as fuck. Make band of kids, waaaayyyyyyyooooooooooooo chant thing, i saw them in 2001, 2002 and 2004 and its been the same every time with a few new songs added in each time.

ditto, sounds just like the november detroit show. great live band

would you? its just a squire strat, probably purchased at the local guitar world earlier that day.
i would hold on to that guitar

i wouldn't sell it.
it was a gibson too.
I highly doubt Green Day is giving away Gibsons. The only time I saw them, they gave the kid a Squire Bullet. It was practically worth less than the ticket to get in (sentimental value was through the roof, though).

When I saw them they got a dude on stage with the hugest mohawk and asked him his name and he said fucking dan and the whole crowd was goin FUCKIN DAN, FUCKIN DAN, FUCKIN DAN! It was pretty funny and at the end they smashed the shit out of everything and burnt the drum kit as well...fire is good.

I don't know how, but I didn't catch the part where it said they played them in order of the cd. Plus I haven't gotten the cd yet (yea, I'm not that cool), so I wouldn't know the tracklisting. But I figured I either read it wrong or there was some sort of mistake...playing it twice would have been ridiculous. thanks for pointing that out.
Sounds like every Green Day show i have ever been to. Still great nonetheless, Green Day puts on one of the best shows around.
yeah dude word to that while they are still awsome and one of my favorite bands i saw that exact same show a few months ago in norfolk VA and a few years ago on the pop disaster tour and a year before that at the hfstival. point being their show is awsome but if you seen it once you've seen it give or take a few songs, wish they would switch shit up on us every once in a while

Billy joe has kissed me before, he has a thing for kissing guys.. I just saw them in January and it sounds pretty much the same thing, the show rocked though.

and i meant that they played the american idiot album until they got to the point where boulevard of broken dreams would be but didnt play it, and played other songs instead.
