How is the statement ignorant?
US interogators violate human rights with little regard for religios beliefs.
Hitler violates human rights with little regard for religious beliefs.
Sure it's done on a different scale but isn't it hypocritical that the "Greatest Nation on Earth" and protector of "Liberty and Human Rights", directely defies them.
How about officials in the USA focus on things more important than a senators comment or Janet Jacksons breast. Things such as education and health-care.
I think it's a disgrace to say that any man or woman in the military would act like that.
That is an equally as ignorant statement. We know for a fact US soilders are violating human rights in Iraq at the moment, remember the footage of a soilder shooting a prisoner lying on the ground presenting NO RISK? Remember the accounts of villagers in Vietnam who talked of US soilders completely anihalating their vilages and commiting genocide.
History has documented this and to deny it is equally as ignorant.
I know it seems i'm on an anti US rampage tonight, but after spending a weekend at a conference on sustainable development it's hard to have any regard of respect for the majority of the United States.

How is the statement ignorant?..
How wasn't it ignorant? How does a lack of air conditioning and/or heating, sometimes, compare to forced starvation? Physical torture? Slavery? Genocide? And Gassing?
US interogators violate human rights with little regard for religios beliefs...
Hitler violates human rights with little regard for religious beliefs.
Now you’re showing your ignorance. The US government has taken great steps to provide, without cause, the men at gittmo the necessary requirement to continue following their faith. Such as Muslim supervised menus, prayer rugs, prayer beads, koran’s, loud speakers for group praying, and directional guidance for worship. Does this sound like "little" regard for religious beliefs? Or do you think Hitler provided such things to the Jews?
But of course all this is cancelled out by a few minor incidents of koran “mishandling”….isn’t that what the liberal presses would have us all believe?
Sure it's done on a different scale but isn't it hypocritical that the "Greatest Nation on Earth" and protector of "Liberty and Human Rights", directely defies them.
That’s the point, the differing scale of his comparison was so flawed, and illogical, that it lacked any validity on the topic at hand. It would be like trying to make a rational argument out of comparing a water gun and a machine gun. Yes the two do share some very minor resemblance’s, but in the overall scope of things they are nothing alike, and no rational person would attempted such a comparisons. That is why his statement was ignorant….and most, on both sides, have labeled it as such.
How about officials in the USA focus on things more important than a senators comment or Janet Jacksons breast. Things such as education and health-care..
So an extreme misrepresentation of Gittmo by an elected US Congressman on the floor of the Congress, which was feasted on by the world’s press, particularly that of the Arab world and far-left media’s of Europe, to further criticize American action and our soldiers, isn’t a valid issue to action with?

it was hardly an apology. it seems the only thing he thinks he's done wrong is offend people. he never once apologized for the things he said.
i listened to a fascinating segment on the dennis prager show about this issue. there was a guest on his show. i don't remember his name. he was a former green beret. but he was commissioned by others to examine the activites at gitmo. i don't want to waste anybody's time. i sure we'll find his observations published soon, but he had some interesting things to say about just how impeccable the conditions were at gitmo. when we'll we see tapings of prisoners throwing their own shit at at guards plastered all over the news? not sure

there are dozens of people who seem to present NO RISK blowing themselves up everyday!!! neither you or i can possibly fathom how terrifying it must be to be in that kind of atmosphere. i wouldn't make comments like that, after seeing a video on a newscast as you eat your dinner.
i watch footage like that and i thank god for those men and and women who choose to operate under stress and fear that i can't imagine, because they believe in this country that is void of anything close to the senseless human brutality we see everyday on the news. i certainly hope you hold our troops with at least some integrity.

The Red Cross are allowed on average one visist to Gittmo Bay a year. Amnesty International is allowed to visit to asses humanitarian grounds.
No one knows what goes on inside Gittmo bay, a yearly visit hardly gives us a representation of the inside situation. And do we believe what a government that publicy tried to cover up the Iraqi prisoner scandals account of what life is like.
Oh, and damn that Liberal media.
Grow up and stop using the 'liberal media' for an excuse. It's a term for the dissefected and those unwilling to engage in open debate.

So then you admit durbin was making claims he couldn’t justify. So, history aside, how did I misclassify his comments as being “ignorant”? You do understand the meaning of the word, don’t you?

I think I've more then "engaged" you on your statements. In fact it seems that you are the one who lacks the ability to defend your own words, but maybe that’s cause you’re a product of your “excuse”?

He was making claims on an FBI report. Part of the Federal government. If that is the official word coming out about Gittmo Bay then I am hardly suprised he would make such a claim.
And for lords sake, drop this Liberal Media bullshit. Just because Europeanen/Australasian tv stations aren't bankrolled by rich conservatives it doesn't mean that it's Liberal.
Here's a challenge for you, name me the companies that run the media in New Zealand. I bet you don't know that yet you call me a product of the liberal media. Stop being a little baby.

As the article I posted stated, but this didn't justify his words, and as you said no outside groups have either......so how was "ignorant" a misrepresentation of his words?
And again I’ll ask how is a lack of air-conditioning or heating, periodically, or noise coercion compares to what the Nazi’s or Communist Russia did?

Ya their bank rolled, in the case of europe, by extremely liberal governments….and you were the one who made it a "big" deal, all I did was make reference to whom were perpetuating the idea that because a few incidences of Koran "mistreatment" have been reported that it somehow proves an overall lack of respect for the chosen religion of the detainees, which as I stated, and can prove to you, is untrue. Remember that you too made a similar claim that contradicted the truth, and someone has been feeding you this misinformation. But I guess “whom” could be anyone…..

i found out a little more on what i was listening to. it was a congressional delegation. members of the house, in a congressional delegation, were commisioned to observe precedings at gitmo. all found that living conditions as well as pratcices were perfectly acceptable, and in many instances raising the bar by prison standards. members of the house also include Sheila Jackson Lee! crazy. one of the most liberal house members in our country's government doeasn't think gitmo has issues. interesting. i would recommend buying this tape if anybdy has twelve extra dollars and an interest in the subject. dennisprager.com. good stuff

After finaling hearing what the man said I didnt understand the republicans getting their panies in a bunch over a simple analogy which was already proven true in Iraq. Maybe the republicans and bush administration should attack the truth (if their is any to be found) and not the analogy, theirs a first for everything I guess.
