I'm just watching this now on TV, having not seen it since I was about ten years old.

What's insane is that not only is it a phenominal movie for kids, but it also raises alot of subversive points and has some disturbing ideas underneath the sheen and smiles.

Let's celebrate a truly classic film that IS as good as your nostalgia would suggest

Such an fantastic movie. I need to watch it again soon; it's been too long.

I want an apartment like his

So good.

It's got so many angles. The mother who thinks her son has been kidnapped (very fucked up), a child realising the reality of the toy and entertainment industry, the fact that a 13 year old fucks a 30 year old woman...

The woman he hooks up with (who is now in Weeds) is a total milf

I always thought she was hot when I saw it as a kid. Now, I just want to beat that up.

SUCH a good movie.

I'm not as big of a Tom Hanks fan as most people, but I love BIG. I think that my all-time favorite Tom Hanks role would be Jimmy Duggan from A League of Their Own.

i pretty much can't stand tom hanks. i think he's pretentious, personally. i love the part where he comes in the house and his mom chases him

I'd say on a scale, I'm leaning more towards your end on that too.

As emotionally manipulative as it is, Forrest Gump still makes me cry like a bitch

Once you've watched this film, an atomic bomb full of nostalgia will constantly drop on you every single time you see an oversized keyboard or fortune telling machine.

Aside from a few scattered movies here and there, I like Tom Hanks in most of the movies. Granted, it helps that I like the movie too. Here are my favorite Tom Hanks movies, no order.

1. A League of Their Own
2. Catch Me If You Can
3. The Terminal
4. Charlie Wilson's War
5. The Burbs
6. Big
7. Cast Away
8. Forrest Gump

There are others, but those are the ones that I think of. He is great in Catch Me If You Can.

I haven't read the books (I've tried, but couldn't really get into it), so I never saw the movie. He definitely seems pretentious in that movie.

You wouldn't be allowed to make 'Big' today because all of the would-be politically correct idiots would say it has paedophilic undertones and other such crap. Hence why in the (pointless) 'Reimagining' of "The Day The Earth Stood Still", Klaatu isn't allowed to be friends with a little boy (a massive fucking symbolic and metaphorical juncture in the original). Instead they have to make the kid an annoying little shit with a scientist mother.

Now I'm even more glad I didn't waste my time and money to see this.

I'll just allow the original to be my only impression of that story.

Must've missed something because aside from Philip Seymour Hoffman I didn't care for it one bit.

I'm a huge fan of political movies, so I was biased.

Tom Hanks as pretentious? I see him as totally the opposite.

I really loved Charlie Wilson's War. I was expecting it to be a long, complex political film, but found it to be the exact opposite: funny, accessible, and easy to watch.
