i'm pretty sure the union would have spent way more if they held their conferences at a place they didn't own. those conferences are fairly critical to union existence, it's not exactly greedy to have a place people actually want to go to so they can have union workshops.

When you have money you have power. When you have power you have greed. Also when you have money you have greed.
You know, I felt greedy asking for things for Christmas, and my presents did add up over 100 US, considering one was a camera, another a video game. Cash isn't easy to come by right now. But seeing these people hording cash and spending it on a golf course when the economy sucks like it does? It makes me feel a lot less greedy.

how exactly is this greedy? Booking the types of retreats that they have there at a non-union owned place (ie: a resort, which is where you have corporate-type retreats) would have cost WAY more than operating this place does. they're saving money. if you guys actually took the time to understand what the union does with this place instead of buying the right wing's UAW=EVIL bullshit, you might actually know what you're talking about.
it's not as if this place is just a resort for union members to party all the time at, they do a lot of union related work there. besides, when you are asking people to sacrifice their precious vacation time for these retreats, you probably should have some leisure activities to do also.
"Critics call it a resort for union leaders that wastes money from union dues."
It's the union leaders' faults for this one. Don't blame the union. Yet again, a large community is misrepresented by the minority of its leaders and their corrupt actions.

and spending more money to do the same things at non-union owned resorts would be somehow less wasteful?
i don't get it. having retreats/seminars to discuss union issues costs money.

How is it greedy to operate a golf course for members of your union, if it is something they want for leisure? That makes no sense, especially when the golf course was operated by the UAW for years in good times and bad.
All of this spin by the Republicans against unions disturbs me. It really isn't surprising after Reagan but still I thought there was the slight possibility they would focus on what is best for the economy instead of trying to effectivley destroy the UAW.

They kind of built the American middle class, so... nope, I'm not feeling too swayed here.
