Flightless Birds (New Seasons)
How will it be when the new season turns
All we'll be is just flightless birds
Waiting for our wings to rid themselves from the cold
Speaking to ourselves in merely useless words
Of how a seasons anew and a year has now turned
But we can't rid ourselves of the winter that burns
A white speckled mess, so beautiful in sight
Melting away with the dawn of a new light
New expectations made never to keep
Little resolutions to keep us on our feet
We all need something to stay grounded
We'd rather no be lifted off these floors
No matter how much of a promise we can make
We're only doing it for a promise's sake
We have no meaning to a year deemed new
As we have no flight as the season's due

I like the concept.
Thank you.
I was lacking on any inspiration these past few days but as I was talking to a friend online we started sending each other little improvisational pieces that we wrote. I told her I'm not that inspired by winter really. If anything I'd write something from the staying at home warm perspective than the lonely cold outside. She told me this:
“I know what you mean about the winter, I feel that way too, but sometimes I get spooked inside looking out of the window but my body doesn’t react, so I end up observing it, like if it were something material, make it human. and you understand much better. And that’s the key to… tranquility? I don’t know. It makes you feel really cozy and warm inside even if you’re freezing. Try look at winter, and see what happens, than tell me if you understand me or if it’s just me staying to much at home.”
After that I ended up being at the bookstore, put on some music on my mp3 player, and this came out. I thought more about the new year than winter itself... but anyways... I wrote this and like it as well.
Thank you.

That's cool.. finding inspiration to write, especially something meaningful, can be difficult.
Unfortunately for me, I've found that as my guitar playing has improved my writing has declined. I grew up listening to punk/hardcore and really hating anything pop--what 14 year old punk would defend any pop band haha--punk has a way of always meaning something in the words.. I used to write a lot more meaningful stuff.
Now, I listen to a lot of pop-styled stuff too.. and now I feel like I'm just writing about superficial topics to fill lines to my music instead of writing anything of substance. Too much about love and hearts and too little about anything else.. not enough time sitting down to write with my guitar not in the same room.
Contrary to you, I find winter to be my most inspirational season though. You've inspired me to get back to the music-free writing this season before it's too late and spring rolls around. Thanks. If you're ever up for a writers block chat hit me on aim acax1985 hah.

I wish I could at least play guitar then I could get some of my songs to music. But for now I am just sticking to writing. And it does seem a lot of topics these days are becoming to general and generic, like there's nothing original to write about them anymore. I've had times writing pieces like that. But at some point we'll find something new to write about, or at least I hope so.
But it's nice you find winter inspirational, I'll definitely check out what you've written if you happen to post anything up on here. I don't usually use aim but mine is manualtree and if I'm on then we can chat if you have any writer's blocks you'd like to talk about as well...
