Can someone reccomend some 2000-2005 pop punk bands? Bands like Spitalfield, Valencia, The Movielife, Midtown, and pretty much anything that was originally on Drive Thru Records Roster. Thanks.

northstar, the only proper band matt squire ever produced. this band has some pretty sweet guitar work and isnt afraid to tone it down for a good portion of their album pollyanna.

you said former drive thru roster so im assuming youve heard the early november, if not just know they are one of like 4 bands of that style of music that i still listen to regularly as opposed to every once in awhile. so definitely worth it, if you really want that honest youthful vibe i'd suggest the room's too cold, but contrary to popular opinion i think their triple disc album "the mother themechanic and the path" is their best. it's got some of the same energy on one of the discs but its a much more mature sounding effort that dabbles in several other styles and one of the cds is just this awesome story.

also assuming that when you talk about this kind of music, you've heard older brand new, you've heard the taking back sunday album "tell all your friends", you've heard fall out boy's early album "take this to your grave"... no one really did it better than these bands, it's just not worth it to listen to any others. you know these arent bands that tried to force their voices to sound a certain way, or create any kind of ridiculous image, or hop on any electronic-rock trends, they're just pure energy and emotion for the most part.

Just look up the Drive-Thru roster from those years. Basically everything from its inception - 2003 was gold.

holy shit i would love you to say some of this shit in boston. you would be reamed up the ass. four year strong has been independently releasing music since 2001 shithead. you know where you DIY instead of getting a label to do it for you. like how PUNK was back in the day. god you know nothing yet you continue to rail off like you have a leg to stand on or a pair between your legs. your a fucking joke kid.

Did you ever use your fucking brain and think they didn't release music because Dan was in Bury Your Dead at the time? Or... are you that fucking stupid? It's sad that even I know more than you about the crap music you like.

That fact that you compared Four Year Strong to a DIY back in the day punk band is hilarious. If anything they are the exact OPPOSITE of everything DIY and punk stands for, and there are plenty of users here that would agree.

I believe The Mile After (http://myspace.com/themileafter) were on the Drive-Thru roster in that era.

If you're strictly searching for pop-punk bands, though, I wouldn't suggest taking a listen to their newer songs; lately they've been producing songs with a more piano-pop/acoustic feel.

A Day to Remember he said was 2003 and their first release was 2005. I'm curious what they were doing for those two years without a formal release, because I'm pretty sure he probably wasnt jocking them until 2006 when they signed to Victory. Same goes for Four Year Strong when they signed to their hype label. Dude is a joke and acts like he knew these bands at their absolute local start.

You guys making fun of the music other people listen to are all fucking jokes.

The amount of times in this thread that I read "Listen to better music" or something to that extent is bullshit. Apparently it's a moot point on whether you listen to good or bad music but what is a absolute fact is that you are either fucking completely blind, or cannot read and comprehend things correctly. Thus it would be accurate to wonder if you ever even graduated high school on how you could even be so stupid as to say what you did. What does your weight have to do with anything? And many people i've talked to have been in bands, and they don't make cruddy music. And even so, you don't have to play in a band to know that a band isn't as good as another one.

They were so good. I always thought This Day Forward and these guys would team up for something, that is until Anthony Green stepped into the TDF picture. Their debut full-length and Alaska EP--and definitely that EP's eponymous song--are essential punk-pop that falls exactly into the 2000-2005 window you noted.

They're worlds better than most of the bands listed in this thread, most of which fall more under pop-rock than punk-pop so you may not find them as immediately accessible as the pop-rock tinged stuff you're looking for.

Listen, maybe I didn't read through the thread completely properly (and yesterday I was in a huge hurry), but my point still stands. I'm dead sick of everyone on this site thinking that their music taste is the greatest just because they don't listen to bands like Brand New like most people on this site listen to.

Judgement for music taste here sometimes goes no further than how popular the band is. If the band is well liked on this site, then the AP.net kings will come along and tell ya how bad they suck and how much better the music that they listen to is.

I would suggest trying to reread the thread because mocking his musical taste didn't come in until after PowerCorpswhatever started going on his psuedo elitist rant. we weren't complaining about his list of bands because we think they suck. We were complaining about them because they obviously do not fit the topic, and his logic for making them fit the topic is quite poor at best.

if we're going to use the standard of a band merely existing during a time period means that their music is relevant during that time period then we could consider Nirvana an 80s band or all of those bands that are getting back together now to be current ones.

We started bashing on his taste because of his elitist rant. He could have easily said "You're right. these bands don't fit, but i like them and if you like pop punk you might too", but instead he tried to hide it in elitist bullshit by claiming that they were DIY back then and that's why we'd never heard their albums from before the past year or so. I asked him to post an example of an album from one of the bands that was released between 2000-2005 and he refused, instead deciding to call us all homophobic slurs.

I mean if you want to defend someone for getting unfairly bashed because of taste, you picked a poor example of that. that's what i'm saying.

so are we done making fun of that scene kid (except he's 23) and namedropping bands that came after this type of music became an image and not just music? good. i restate my appropriate answer.

northstar, the only proper band matt squire ever produced. this band has some pretty sweet guitar work and isnt afraid to tone it down for a good portion of their album pollyanna.

you said former drive thru roster so im assuming youve heard the early november, if not just know they are one of like 4 bands of that style of music that i still listen to regularly as opposed to every once in awhile. so definitely worth it, if you really want that honest youthful vibe i'd suggest the room's too cold, but contrary to popular opinion i think their triple disc album "the mother themechanic and the path" is their best. it's got some of the same energy on one of the discs but its a much more mature sounding effort that dabbles in several other styles and one of the cds is just this awesome story.

also assuming that when you talk about this kind of music, you've heard older brand new, you've heard the taking back sunday album "tell all your friends", you've heard fall out boy's early album "take this to your grave"... no one really did it better than these bands, it's just not worth it to listen to any others. you know these arent bands that tried to force their voices to sound a certain way, or create any kind of ridiculous image, or hop on any electronic-rock trends, they're just pure energy and emotion for the most part.

whether or not you agree with me, i dont reallt care. im just putting it out there. Im just saying that the point is , your being kind of ignorant in saying that the only styles that are good are the ones you listen to. There are a TON of bands that i dont like, but i would never say they were bad or hate on someone else for liking them. its just not what music is about.

Damn. I need to change my age to 47. Always have to have those damned 20 year olds reminding me of my age.

I don't -really- hate Bouncing Souls, or TEN for that matter. Ataris/MxPx are two bands I truely dislike though.

On another note, Alexis, are Jammy Dodgers considered pop punk?

If we're playing the age card I might as well bring up that you are 21 and still ilsten to Silverstein, Chiodos, Senses Fail, A Skylit Drive, Coheed and Cambria, Angels And Airwaves, Something Corporate, Jack's Mannequin, and a few more that would take too much work to list. I call Shenanigans.

EDIT : I've never seen a descendents shirt in hot topic, thank you very much. That is also why I currently do not own a descendents shirt.

I never bashed on bands you listened to, I bashed on your disrespect on great pop punk bands. I like those bands that you listed, that doesn't defend the fact that you are talking shit about bands that peaked when you were in elementary school, you never got to go to club shows to see the Ataris, you didn't get to go to warped tour when The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bouncing Souls, Pennywise, Bad Religion, and MxPx were the main headliners.

I wouldn't have gone if they wer currntly headlining (though, if hepcat and fishbone would've came to my area back then and I was old enough, i would've been stoked..). I've never liked any of the bands you listed and I've heard their older cd's. I listen to bands that peaked before the 70s too. just because I haven't seen them live doesn't make me unable to judge their music.

Everything from LIG up to the Renaissance EP is solid gold. I love most of their records though, they're the band that got me into music.

what did you think of Secret Weapon, I thought it was really solid, because I agree their music wasn't as good after the Renaissance EP. I think Secret Weapon puts them back on the map.

Oh, totally. It was a great "return to form" in a lot of ways, some of their best stuff yet. My only complaint is that it's a bit on the lengthy side. I have trouble listening to it all in one sitting.

"Chop Shop" rules. I really like the title track as well, and "Here's To The Life". The only song I'm not too fond of is "Top Of The Charts". Too much cheese, even for MxPx.

No appologies. I just don't think theres a problem listening to older bands like Allister, Midtown, The Movielife, Home Grown, The Early November everyonce in a while. Not my cup of tea anymore but I wouldn't consider them shitty, when I was 16 thats what I was into, and so was just about everyone on this site.

I don't think there's a problem listening to any band. I just happen to hate every drive-thru album I've heard so I generally those bands shitty. Not saying anyone has to agree. On another note, I do still spin The Path once in a while though I never really liked any of their other releases.

I spun The Path cd about 40 times fully through (ignored the rest of the triple disc). Listened to the other albums maybe once and never could get into them though a friend of mine is a huge fan. Would love it if Ace would release the songs that were supposedly cut from it.

what a shame. that's their best album. although the room's too cold had its very own niche in its respective group of 2002/2003 faux pop-punk bands, given the obvious post-hardcore influences. but the songwriting is just so much more mature, seasoned, intricate, and substantial on the triple disc, not to mention it's the first time ace actually wrote good lyrics, including an awesome story on the path.

for all of this is quite nostalgic and energetic but really it is some of the most unprofessional amateur songwriting that is respected on these boards, haha, like you can tell it's made by a bunch of teenagers in a basement with a pipe dream.

When that disc came out I just wasn't really that interested in hearing it for some reason. I remember my roommate kept pushing it on me and it sat on my shelf for months. I enjoyed I Can Make a Mess for a bit, I just dont think im a fan of the mellowed down TEN. I guess I should give it a chance though eh?

theguy77

yeah its worth a shot. but you dont seem like the kind of guy to be too into the mellowed out stuff. maybe you'll at least like the mechanic, that's the "rock" side of it that remains energetic throughout.

ok "jump off" or whatever the fuck you name is. Listen here.

1. It doesnt matter what fucking age you are when you listen to whatever band. if that band did something for you and the way you think about music, then go ahead and listen to them. i dont care if its fucking simple plan, if they helped you out and your 50 years old, fuck it.

2. PLEASE dont come in here and tell other people there music is shitty, its just not respectful man. I agree, the ergs, descendants, and nofx, they all rock man. but i dont think thats what this nice person , who originally started the thread , was asking for. she wanted "early drive thru esque" bands.

3. So stop being a hater, its not what music is about, and shut the fuck up.

You guys making fun of the music other people listen to are all fucking jokes.

The amount of times in this thread that I read "Listen to better music" or something to that extent is bullshit. If you're gonna say that all pop-punk bands are shit or "heard one ya heard em all" then obviously this thread isn't for you, cause he's looking for pop-punk bands, and just cause you guys say "pop punk sucks" doesn't mean he's gonna stop listening to them.

My username is allisterkid. I just had to throw that out there too, before someone tries to remind me that to say that I have no reason to provide input cause of my username.

Also you guys are even bigger jokes for making fun of what that guy looks like. Seriously guys? Most of you making fun of him for his looks don't even have your picture on here and probably look like pieces of shit yourself.

It's really damn easy to be nice. Some of you guys need to try it out sometime.
