First, Pete Wentz is a sad excuse for a bass player. Second, from the small amount of time I have spent listening to their records, they seem to be very over-produced in a bad way... I doubt they can actually sound like anything similar to how they sound on their records.

Dead on. I totally agree. Have you heard them perform
Thnks Fr Th Mmrs live? It's awful. The beginning which is supposed to be strings is substituted with a crappy guitar part. And their new record in particular is way over produced. It'll be interesting to hear What a Catch Donnie played live, considering it is piano and string based.

I'm pretty sure that vocally Patrick has gotten much better, both recorded and live. And I do not think that in any way they are bad live, they sound pretty close to the cd and are entertaining. The only complaint that I can see one make is that Pete Wentz talks too much, but I'm sick of that complaint honestly. I don't think that they have gotten worse live, if anything I think that they have gotten better live. And of course you use TTYG as an example because thats become the coolest thing to talk about and complain.

I completely agree, they sound so overproduced and Wentz is over-rated.
Plus, my friend went to see them live, and said both support bands outplayed Fall Out Boy by a mile.
'Meh, I don't mind some of their songs, but I don't see why their is such a hype and love of them by many, and why they're so big when they do just the same as many artists out there.

They're getting caught up in the fame, and becoming increasingly sloppy. I've always liked they're debut and sophomore material, but i jumped off the band wagon the moment it started smelling, ehem, commercial. Pete is a terribly disgusting human being i don't care what he claims otherwise. Patrick is a soulful singer, i love his cover of Ne-Yo's "So Sick". But please, as a punk band, Fall Out Boy is not passing for me.

Agreed, I love that too.
The only real thing I like about FOB is his voice.

And TTTYG.

I saw them live after From Under the Cork Tree was released, and i don't think i'll ever go to another show again. His voice live was meh, but he aced a handful of songs. Pete Wentz is not a very good bassist. But they put on a fun show i guess, so it was alright.

Really? I swear they've improved about 100fold, everyone used to say how apalling they were live but then around IOH coming out they started getting tighter on stage ...

Really? I have never heard before that they had improved.

IMO, you're dead wrong on the Patrick front. His voice only gets better and better.

seriously, i don't get how people can say his voice has gotten worse or stayed the same. if anything he continues to get better throughout their releases.

*insert the following 5+ posts about how they will never be as good as TTYG, Pete Wentz being annoying, and the obvious they suck*

I don't think they're bad live at all. I just saw them again at a small show last weekend and it was amazing.

Having seen FOB about 10 times or so (the first time touring on TTTYG, the most recent being last Sunday) from my experience they've always sounded like shit.

I used to be able to chalk it up to the energy and passion they put into the show, they were being so active and crazy into it that mistakes were bound to happen.

The set I saw Sunday didn't have the passion I was used to seeing, but they still sounded like shit. They had no excuses this time.

Anyone complaining about the quality of bands live clearly hasn't been to many shows. Very very very few bands sound as good live as they do on album. Any watching youtube videos is not the same as seeing a band live.

Very true.
But there is a big difference between not sounding like a CD but still sounding good, and sounding absolutely terrible.
And that's what we're talking about here (or so I interpreted it that way).

You know, there's definitely truth in this, but i think i've been fortunate and have seen bands play as well as the album or about there.

their show i went to bummed me because the solos in the songs are just skipped. Beat it's solo, and Take Over's solo. and some others the ones taht on the Cds were doing by other artists. it upsets me to not see those played.i think play good live, but their songs can rarly be duplicated live. cept TTTYG songs.

Meh, people should expect bands to be good live. They got big by touring and doing live shows.. Well at least the "pre-myspace era" bands did. Also the whole deal with Pete Wentz is just stupid. He isn't overrated. Anybody that knows music knows that he is just hitching a ride. This might sound sad, but when I hear his name I start thinking Paris Hilton. The guy is almost the male version of her. Way too "dramatic" or whatever you want to call it.

So you basically hate FOB just because of Pete?
Paris Hilton doesn't have it in her to write a record 1/10 as good as any FOB record.

I am indifferent about FOB. Not a fan, not a hater. Pete just pisses me off. Fame has gone to his head. Oh and the reason I think Paris Hilton has nothing to do with music. Just the way she keeps popping up in random news I read, similar to how Pete seems to. FOB makes quality records. Just not for me.
