Lyrics?
staplegunned-
it was in the lobby when i set my sights on you
should have kissed you in the elevator but i was too scared too
it was in the mourning when i made up my mind
i want you staplegunned right to my side all of the time
oooo
(chorus)
do i have to spell it out for you, or scream it in your face
o the chemistry between us could destroy this place
do i have to spell it out for you, or whisper in you ear
o just stop right there i think that we've got something here
we were all alone when i finally made a ??pass?? at you
it didn't work i know it never does, but you know i do
we were on the phone when i made up my mind
i want you staplegunned to my side all of the time
woah
(chorus) x2

The Dutch Courage is so good, I love that song. And from what people have been saying, "this is for keeps" is labeled wrong, it's actually the song "break a leg." What a great album; but of course, everyone already knew I was going to say that.

I never really liked "Sunsets and Car Crashes," except for The Tide. That song is damn amazing, but this new shit is crazy. Staplegunned just screams "Listen to me!!!" Sunsets was amazing. But I'm a bigger fan of their acoustic songs, so ill see how i like this album. But all that aside, i still think this album holds the top seed for best of 05, that is, if brand new doesn't release.
They re-labeled "This is for keeps"...it reads "Break A Leg" now as everyone thought.
But the whole full band thing makes me skeptic. Nick and Joe are clearly the brains behind the whole operation. Reminds me of Max Bemis in Say Anything.

New Spill Canvas
Honestly I want to like the albums I'm listening to but the music industry is sucking majorly right now.
Does anybody else think Lust A Prima Vista is trying a bit too hard to be "Me Vs. Maradona vs. Elvis" in terms of taking advantage of a girl.
Then the following track , "Staple-Gunned", is cornier than many MXPX songs. So he went from taking advantage to being scared? Holy Sic Transit Gloria to Me Vs. Maradona vs. Elvis.
Polygraph,, Right Now - LOL - King of this pity party - I won't lie this is insanely catchy but it just seems sophomoric and seems like a step back lyrically.
The Dutch Courage - This is an amazing song with killer lines like "as inebriated as you can get on your last pay check." and "coward career" and they do a killer outro on this song and I think this is what Spill Canvas needs to do to mask their repeating of lines much like TBS/Brand New. They should do this more often cause a major flaw of this album is some lines he writes are good but get tiresome after the 4th time he repeats them.
Natalie Marie - Like I said before this is boring, too much repeating.
Teleport - yawn..... he's a lot better when he just lets it go.
Break A Leg - Holy Matchbox 20
This Is For Keeps - If you're into slowed down stuff than this might be for you but his voice is kept in the background far too much for my liking. He's got talent, he should use it.
Himerus and Eros - Again, I'll pass. I'm just not buying this, it just lacks the intensity of the first and I 'm wondering if he's even buying into this song.
Valiant - Probably the worst song on the record, too slow for my tastes. A secret garden, too? What with magical gnomes? And lowering into the bay... Play Crack The Sky? Good lord, why doesn't he just change his name to Jesse Lacey Jr.
Oh cause he still writes lyrics like jealous ZOMBIES
Secret Oath - Good premise, bad presentation
Bound To Happen - Did he forget how to rock out?
The problem is with these slow songs unlike Deja, it just completely kills the momentum.
You guys can shit over it all you want but this is a mediocre album masked by two killer songs
The Dutch Courage and Self-Conclusion.
Self-Conclusion - Very cool because it's his element that he should go afrer a lot more... Drama punk/story-teller rock/ the other stuff is just mediocre compared to what he's capable of . So while I'd give it about a 7 out of 10, it's not the album of the year, and the fact of the matter if this is even being considered I think I agree with Night mare of You...
Dear Scene, I Wish I Were Deaf
Lesson To Be Learned: Don't try to be Jesse Lacey or Rob Thomas

The Spill Canvas - One Fell Swoop
A Rebuttal by Yours Truly
Honestly I want to like the albums I'm listening to but the music industry is sucking majorly right now.
One, the music industry does not exist. There is no industry. There's bands making music everywhere as has been the case for decades now. Look at all the labels and genres there are now. Maybe there are a lot of crappy albums out, but there are a lot of good ones too. Open up your ears, read around, and you'll find them.
Does anybody else think Lust A Prima Vista is trying a bit too hard to be "Me Vs. Maradona vs. Elvis" in terms of taking advantage of a girl.
Were you asking a question or making a statement? In either case, I don't think it sounds like "Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis" at all. Brand New's "Deja Entendu" is on a level all it's own and you seem to try and make multiple comparisons with the two albums. Please, go out and listen to more albums and stop trying to make the point that you (as most of us have) have listened to Deja Entendu dozens of times. "Lust a Prima Vista" is an appropriate opening track with clapping and a very steady beat.
Then the following track , "Staple-Gunned", is cornier than many MXPX songs. So he went from taking advantage to being scared? Holy Sic Transit Gloria to Me Vs. Maradona vs. Elvis.
Again, an off the wall comparison. MxPx??? Are you sure you're listening to The Spill Canvas?
Polygraph,, Right Now - LOL - King of this pity party - I won't lie this is insanely catchy but it just seems sophomoric and seems like a step back lyrically.
I'm not sure what "sophomoric" entails, but this is TSC's 2nd album, so I guess in a way you're right no matter what it entails. The lyrics seem pretty typical, although I do admit that THIS song is a bit corny with that "king of this pity party with my jewel encrusted crown" line.
Blah, blah, blah, this album is boring.
I don't know how you could find this album boring if you're a fan of TSC at all.
Teleport - yawn..... he's a lot better when he just lets it go.
Best song on the album, in my opinion.
Break A Leg - Holy Matchbox 20
The first thing I read that I could at least follow you on. Although next time I think you should expand or at least sound more intelligent than saying "Holy Matchbox 20."
This Is For Keeps - If you're into slowed down stuff than this might be for you but his voice is kept in the background far too much for my liking. He's got talent, he should use it.
What do you mean? He's singing on a song. Blame the producer, don't blame his supposed lack of talent.
Himerus and Eros - Again, I'll pass. I'm just not buying this, it just lacks the intensity of the first and I 'm wondering if he's even buying into this song.
Again, what do you mean? This song has solid intensity... it may rely more on the instruments than his vocals, but some songs should.
Good premise, bad presentation.
Kind of what I want to say about your review. It's fine if you don't like the record and want to go through it song by song, but your points are awful and lack evidence.
Bound To Happen - Did he forget how to rock out?
Yeah, because Sunsets and Car Crashes was Nick's answer to Metallica. :headshake
Dear Scene, I Wish I Were DeafYou deserve to be if you're going to review albums like that.
Lesson To Be Learned: Don't try to be Jesse Lacey or Rob Thomas
Lesson to be learned: You're not a good album reviewer.
