In the 4 major sports, do you think we are seeing a revival of the games being played in styles similar to what they used to be in the past?

Football - New England Patriots. enough said. Win with their defense, excellent coaching, and teamwork. No more of the Dallas/St.Louis type teams of flashy, offense driven teams

Baseball - A great article in SI recently about its return to "small ball". With a few exceptions(Derrek Lee, Pujols) home runs are down by a large percentage this season, as well is scoring and team ERA's.

Basketball - the two teams in the NBA finals - Spurs and PIstons - both teams emphasizing defense and teamwork. Kobe, AI, Steve Francis - didnt do shit

Hockey - no season :(

I've just recently noticed this trend, I think it's def good for sports in the long run and just wanted some input from others on it

mmhmm...i heard commentators talking about that too....i dont think its just a coincidence either,

i believe its mostly in part of all the coaches that you see...id say 75 percent of them used to play the game themselves..especially in basketbal

ehh... the sox won the WS last year and they were one of the most explosive offensive teams in years.

i think it's just a coincidence. the rebirth of small ball owes itself just as much to billy beane as it does to anything else.

they were explosive...but they were also a bunch of guys getting dirty together and acting like a team, a lot like how baseball used to be more a fraternity then a business.

i wouldn't say that there's a revival though, a few teams are pulling in things that we haven't seen in awhile, but pretty much all the sports are a barely shadow of how great they used to be (maybe not football). it was nice seeing those two teams in the nba finals, but i like watching the 70's nba finals on espn classic 10 times more than watching the garbage the nba is putting out now. hopefully with this steroids nonsense clearing up, we will see more real baseball and not the fake home run show of the past decade. the only sport that hasn't really been changed through the times much is hockey, and it's not even on.
