The Squier Stratocaster is a good guitar for a beginner. Not to flashy, very simple. The Ibanez G-10 is a very good beginners guitar as well.

Get either an Ibanez or an Epiphone beginner's package, they come with pretty decent guitars and everything else you need to get started. I don't care for the Squier packages.

I suppose I stand by the theory that a beginner's first guitar should be a less than great guitar

well why not start off with one that's pretty good? i have a Fender Strat. besides, you're probably going to have to get a better one anyway

Because if you give a kid a great guitar right off the back they'll just strum the hell out of it and not care. If you give them a guitar where they actually have to play well to sound 'okay' it's much more worth it. My first guitar wasn't great and didn't have great naturallytone either, so I spent alot of time paying attention to how I was playing in order to get it to sound fine.

Nope. He started with an electric;

Anyways start with a guitar thats probably not over $200 american. Most people start with a Squire Strat. I did.

I started with an Epiphone Les Paul, if I had money I'd buy a new guitar but sadly I'm still playing it, lol. I'm just glad it has humbuckers.

I like the Epiphone Les Paul. Who cares if it's made of "lesser materials" the Les Paul is a good guitar, period.

Lord do not buy a Squire. There are begineers guitars, then there are squires.

Look at a Silvertone starting pack or an Ibanez. Ibanez will give you pretty good value for money and are easily playable.

What kind of sound are you into?

I do agree with Ibanez, they make good guitars.

Ibanez is great.

Epiphone is cool because you can get a SG or a Les Paul. I got the Les Paul.
