out of all fingers, which is the best:

The thumb, it defines us. Our thumbs are what makes the whole hand work. It’s why we can play video games, thumb wrestle, and tell people “good job” without opening our mouth. While, it isn’t a critical part of the fist, the thumb is used presumably for diplomacy and holding things. Without the thumb, we’d be no better than the lowest of animals. It is the catalyst for all the hand does, its importance cannot be overstated.

The index (or pointer finger). This is the captain of the fingers in my opinion. If this was a football team, this would be the quarterback. If this was a high school, this would be the jock. if this was saved by the bell, this would be Zack. The index finger does more work than probably any other finger. If something needs pointing, it does it. If something needs flicking, it does it. It works together with the thumb in many cases to hold or pinch things. But don’t let the popped collar fool you…this finger does the dirty work too. This finger finds its way into dark, dark places…sometimes all by it self, and does its business bravely and effectively with no complaints.

The middle finger. The longest finger, and the most rebellious. Stuck in the middle of all the fingers, the middle finds its way to stand out, not only by it’s height, but with leather jackets and obscene gestures. Fearing no repercussion, if the hand does not agree with something, this is the finger with the gusto to stand up alone and express discontent.

The ring finger. While big on purpose, low on activity. The ‘Lance Bass’ of the hand if you will. It fills out the hand, making it look right, but doesn’t really do much other than take up space. It really only exists for one day in the life of the hand. Once that day is over, it wears a shackle for the rest of its life.

The pinky. Though the littlest finger in size, big on heart. It is typically the last line of defense if something is slipping from your hand. A dependable pinky could be the difference between a person slipping from your grasp over a bridge, or climbing over the rail and doing you on the spot. Typically underestimated due to its stature…any finger you ask will tell you how important a pinky is.

So which finger is the best?

I chose thumb because it is what separates us from primates. Opposable thumb people. But the index finger is also good. It is the most used finger, plus it is my prefered guitar finger.

let me tell you guys an age old tale of finger mythology.

the thumb is our main character, just a lonely fat finger who always seems to be seperated from the rest of the group. he's short. he's ugly. and noone likes him. except one finger..the index finger. the thumb has been friends with the index finger for as long as he can remember (because they have been neighbors) and, because of this, has developed a longlasting love for her. yes, the index finger is a girl. anyway, the index finger is one of those pretty, popular girls who always has a big hunky boyfriend. the thumb has accepted his role as being the unappreciated finger in her life, but that is okay. well, the middle finger is the index finger's big hunky boyfriend..and, well, they're always together right next to the thumb. but the thumb understands. and so he doesnt complain.

this lasted for a few years, until one fateful day, something terrible happened in their relationship. to summarize, the index finger caught the middle finger "fingering" the ring finger. hurt and confused she went to the thumb, crying to him about all the terribly things the middle finger did to her, and how bad he was, and how she would never find another guy. the thumb then saw this as his chance to finally tell her about his love for her. he did, and the index finger had an epiphany and realized that the thumb was the finger there for her at all times, and that she truly did love the thumb, despite his looks and body odor. and they all lived happily ever after.

in this piece of mythology we learned a very important lesson about our fingers. the thumb is reliable, the index finger always makes the right decision in the end, the middle finger is bad, the ring finger isn't all that important, and the pinky isnt even really there at all.
