Why do kids always have to claim they are a "true fan"? It doesnt fucking matter! If you like a band, you like a band.

timbedinosaur

So let me get this straight. You think you're a better fan because you've known them longer than others? Bullshit. Seniority doesn't work in music. What makes one fan truer than another? Tell me that. And besides, have you seen the fans All Time Low and We The Kings have? They're mostly preteen and teenage girls. Hardly what I think you would classify as a "true fan." Besides, it's highly unlikely that they'd put those two bands in Guitar Hero. You know why? Because they haven't reached huge notoriety and they don't go for that type of music on their games. And besides, whats wrong with a band having more fans? Are you that greedy that you'd rather have them not go anywhere rather than get more fans? I get it's hard to deal with new success of your favorite bands, but you're just being an idiot.

I agree with you on this but I don't get why you're calling them "kids" when you're 15 yourself. Hardly what I'd call an adult

fly_guy
01/01/09, 10:00 AM
Thats what I am saying. Most of the kids that like All Time Low heard about them from MTV. If you didnt know, a band has to be pretty big to get on MTV anyways, so you arent a better fan than any of the other girls that like them. However, there are some kids that stumble upon bands right before they get big. They arent any better of a fan then the ones who saw them on television

Rock Band and Guitar Hero have never had a band on them which marred their legitimacy. Not once. Sure, Weezer was on Rock Band but they're fucking sell outs anyway.

So what has been earlier posted about seniority and ripping away "true fans" is confirmed.

In honesty I'm less inclined to discover a band through a video game that is meant to entertain the masses, but that's not to say they can't be good. Seriously though, I doubt my favorite bands would ever be on Rock band or Guitar Hero to begin with, and as for the occassional band that I like that does show up in these games, it doesn't make much of a difference anyways.

Burn That Shit

Weezer aren't sell outs.

I disagree, and it's not because I dislike Weezer, by no means, one of my most favorite bands, but as much as Rivers Cuomo would love to preach about how much of a rebel he is to record company's, they are still signed to Geffen, the same fucking company they had Blue album signed to back in 1994. After typing that I realize that I might actually adjust my statement to:

They aren't sell outs, but they certainly aren't as anti-establishment as Rivers cuomo would like you to believe, and in that sense, he has sold an attitude to you, an attitude that's been churned out by record labels since the beginning of rock n' roll.

Weezer has never been anti-establishment or sold a "rock n' roll" attitude. Quite the opposite, in fact.

I guess you don't understand the Red Album. Rivers, Weezer, and every fan knows that most of those songs are referencing Rivers' youth. If Geffen was trying to sell an anti-establishment image, would they really let Rivers grow a dorky mustache and wear a cowboy hat on the cover?

Weezer is all about ironic dorkiness and, occasionally, painfully lonely self-deprecation.

Drinking has nothing to do with it, it's apathy. Consumerism, Commercialism, and Marketing in general are extremely prevailent to the extent to which the youth, who are inherently gullible and vulnerable, become selfish and capitalist oriented.

If you can find one statistic supporting that, I'll eat the crab salad that's been sitting in the back of my fridge since before Thanksgiving.

Sort of but with internet and different technologies making it easier for people to be less direct.

All Time Low will never make it onto Guitar Hero because they don't have good enough guitar, bass, or drumming parts. Or vocal parts.

This thread should be, "which bands do you like now because of Guitar Hero". Still stupid, but better than the original.

Haha, good call. Thats really the only way people can compare it. I love it when I'm in my store and people are like oh, this sucks, Rock Band is waaaaay better. I'm like, "Jesus, its the same fucking game. They even look the same."

Yeah, which is why I understand them being all over the game. But like someone said before, I like playing songs that I like, or am at least familiar with. Which is why I like World Tour a lot more. There are songs from just about every genre. Even though their very easy to play, I love playing Santeria, Dammit, Misery Business, and a ton of others that I like, or have listened to before. Others like Metallica are just songs that I play and move on.

Fuckmaxbemis
01/02/09, 08:21 PM
Rock BAnd is fun, I'm pretty good at it, I liek the way it looks better, the "instruments" are a lot more developed and though Guitar Hero may have At The Drive-In, the Rock Band store has lots of Weezer, Maximo Park, The Mother Hips, Radiohead, etc.

Damn, this reminds me I haven't gotten GHWT yet...

And, when I see a band I enjoy on something like GH or RB, I'm happy for them. It's good for the band and also makes the game more fun because you are playing songs you actually like.

And ATL or WTK wouldn't ever be in Guitar Hero.

I like to play songs on GH/RB that are, you know, not so easy to play. Power chords are a no-no, solos are a must. Sutff that I cannot actually play (yet). Otherwise my time would be better spent actually playing guitar. But that's just my crazed way of thinking.
