Recommendations forum... but...
Bon Iver - re: Stacks
Elliott Smith - Say Yes
Iron & Wine - Naked As We Came
Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy Jr.
You'll probably find better help from others. Most of the folk I listen to is far from "chill".

Not extremely folk, but sort of folk-ish.

Couldn't even begin to describe how much I enjoy Pink Moon. Have you heard Drake's final recordings on Fruit Tree/Time Of No Reply? Great stuff.
All I know about you is that you evidently dig Miles Davis and prefer Slowdive to My Bloody Valentine. Both statements put a smile on my face.

Yeah, Pink Moon is pretty great. I think for me it's just one of those songs/album I'm always in the mood to hear. Which is great. And no, I don't think I have. I should get on that though. I'm slacking!
YES! Slowdive > MBV so hard! I feel like anyone who denies this just hasn't heard a lot of Slowdive, or it's because MBV are the grandfathers/pioneers of shoegaze or something? I don't really know. I just can't understand. Souvlaki > Loveless too I think. And you're a Slowdive fan so that ultimately makes me like you immediately :P! Have you ever heard of Alison's Halo? They're good too. I feel like you might like them. You also seem like a Cocteau Twins kinda guy. I'm gettin' those vibes anyway :P.

They stem from his "final sessions" and are similar to Pink Moon in how sparse the approach is. Let me know if you need some help tracking them down.
I suspect this is a case of reputation taking precedence over the actual tunes. Souvlaki over Loveless any day of the week. Hell, Pygmalion over Loveless too. Never could get into Alison's Halo sadly but I do enjoy Cocteau Twins minus the debut which seems pretty subpar to me.

Oh sweet. Yeah I'll definitely check it out, and thanks! I'll let you know if I have any hassles.
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. Hehe I agree with Pygmalion over Loveless as well! And aw shucks that's a bummer, A'sH is pretty swell as far as shoegaze goes imo. Do you like any current shoegaze bands like The Daysleepers or anything? I think they're pretty good too. And nice. Glad you like it.

Ignoring the "folk" part and just going with chill acoustic songs..
Tallest Man on Earth - Where Do My Bluebirds Fly? (Favorite song by him is the gardner but it's not really "chill")
Paul Baribeau - I Miss that Band
French Quarter - Debt
NoFX - Scavenger Type
Moving Mountains - Sol Solis
NMH - A Baby for Pree (sorry couldn't resist :-( )
Okkervil River - John Allyn Smith Sails
Andrew Jackson Jihad - Little Prince (El Principito)
Simon & Garfunkel - Patterns (I can't remember if this was acoustic or not and I don't have the song near me right now)
Phil Ochs - Too Many Martyrs
DejaNew
01/03/09, 01:03 PM
some of dustin kensrue's solo stuff can be considered chill. and its very folky

I'm terrible with genres but do enjoy the odd shoegazeish act here and there, particularly A Sunny Day In Glasgow lately. Not a fan of The Daysleepers unfortunately, and I had gotten my hopes up after having heard good things about them.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy (http://www.myspace.com/princebonniebilly), Bon Iver (http://www.myspace.com/boniver), and The Tallest Man On Earth (http://www.myspace.com/thetallestmanonearth) were behind the finest "folk" albums of 08. If you're among the 5 people who have yet to hear these releases and enjoy this genre, do yourself a favor and look into them.
