Who?

Hailing from Saint Louis, Missouri, Fight! Fight! Fight! is a three-man, one-woman show that is out to prove that they can give Flyleaf and Paramore a run for their money.

How is it?

At a first listen to Fight! Fight! Fight!, one might think of Flyleaf or Paramore, mainly because of female singer Erica Ross. This is what I thought of when I first listened to the band. However, after comparing them to Flyleaf and Paramore more closely, I realized that Erica Ross sounds neither like Flyleaf's Lacey Mosley, or like Paramore's Hayley Williams. This doesn't mean that she sounds better or worse, just different. Decide for yourself if you think she has a better or worse voice than them. I don't really care, it's not like I know you. But I digress...

Despite the fact that Erica Ross is neither like Hayley Williams or Lacey Mosley, fans of either or both Flyleaf and Paramore should have no trouble getting into Fight! Fight! Fight!. Your Sister's Jeans Ain't as Tight As This... EP starts off with "Ex's and Oh's," a rhythmic tune with addictive lyrics. The chorus repeats "Oh, oh / No, oh / Don't go." Simple, but singer Erica Ross's voice meshes perfectly with the guitars, bass, and drums in the backdrop. A great part of this song is that halfway through it, everything but the bass gets dropped while Ross sings "When my heart was just about to beat / You stole it right off of my sleeve" one time around. She sings this same line a second, third, and fourth time around, this time with all the instruments creeping their way louder and louder. It is very well put together. Song two is "I Have Five Fingers And One Hand That Says You Shouldn't Mess With My Friends," which is one of my favorites because of the string-picking intro. It sounds great. "Shake Hips, Not Fists" I thought had a very ironic name considering the title of the previous song ("I Have Five Fingers And One Hand That Says You Shouldn't Mess With My Friends") and the name of the band (Fight! Fight! Fight!). But that's just me. This is a radio-friendly track with a very dance-with-it, sing-along, hook-on-for-the-ride chorus that exclaims, "The roof's on fire / And we're down below / Got our dance shoes on / Gonna bust a move," which repeats again, except the second time around they switch the "Gonna bust a move" to "Gonna make you move." The final song "I.E. Me" doesn't really change anything up; the band mostly sticks to the same formula on all four songs throughout the EP. All things considered, Fight! Fight! Fight! came out with a decent release. Like with all bands, this EP has it's high and low spots. The biggest flaw I saw was that there was not much variation in the sound or tempo of the songs. But other than that, a good release. A bit short, but hey, that just gives me a good reason to "Fight! Fight! Fight!" for a bigger, better, and longer release by this Missouri foursome.
