I'm reading the book right now and I'm almost finished. I love it so far. The movie is set to come out on January 9th. I can't wait to see it. For anyone who is unfamilar with the storyline, here it is:

THE READER opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair. Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from "The Odyssey," "Huck Finn" and "The Lady with the Little Dog." Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken. Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life - this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna's past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both of their lives. THE READER is a story about truth and reconciliation, about how one generation comes to terms with the crimes of another.

Two of my friends saw it and loved it. I may see it in theatres, or just wait and rent it.

Saw it last week and loved it.

By no means the best movie of the year, but great direction and performances from all the main players.

Damn Kate Winslet looked good last night at the SAG awards.

I really liked this movie - I thought it was different from most other Holocaust movies. Winslet is one of the best actresses of her generation - I don't know if I liked her more in this or in Revolutionary Road, though I did like the Reader as a film considerably more than I liked Revolutionary Road.

I heard that there is a TON of sex in this film, but that it wasn't that great.

theres a ton in the first half or so.

I'd say I had higher expectations for the movie. It was good, though. Lower half of my top 10 I'd say

great filmmaking. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Frost/Nixon was the las movie I needed to see to see al 5 films nominated and after seeing it I think thats my pick, but I'm not sure. I'm such a sucker for the journalist movies where they try and undercover stuff. I feel like I become part of the team. Ron Howard knocked it out of the park, really knocked it out of the park. The actor who played David Frost also did an amazing job.

As of now I think it goes:

1.Frost/Nixon
2.The Curious Case
3. The Reader
4. Milk
5. Slumdog Millionaire

And thoses could def be moved around slighhtly

I'm fine with whatever wins. Each were fantastic in their own way but for me nothing blew me away in the bunch like last years nominated No Country For Old Men or There Will Be Blood.

Kate Winslet was amazing in this movie and she deserves an oscar but I dont think the movie is the best picture.
