What do people think of it? I haven't listened to it, but I see that it's "available" if I want it.

eh ill take it by your profile that you are a fan of more "hardcore" music.....so i cant say im shocked that you dont like this. personally i think its amazing. introspective lyrics mixed with amazing guitar work. i loved the intricacies of this, the random click wheel and clapping.

Ya their overrated because a couple of people in this forum like them..ok. Nah this band deserves all the credit they can get. Lame lyrics, i do not see that, but please since you are such a good judge of musical taste give me an example of a band that eclipses the Spill Canvas's lyrics. Generic, yeah they sound just like......? Nothing very innovative, did not see that coming a pop album not breaking all the rules and being the first of it's kind.

The emotion conveyed through the lyrics/voice, the musicianship and superb production make this a must buy.

Fine. Overrated on this site. Because of people like Jason Tate who insist on promoting the fuck out of it, and calling it album of the year, when it is not even close. To compare the rather simple music on this album with things like Antony & the Johnsons, Sufjan Stevens, The National, etc etc etc... is silly.

If you want a list of bands that eclipse the Spill Canvas' lyrics, look in my profile and you'll find a ton. I'll highlight a couple for you: The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, The Decemberists, Dredg, The Flaming Lips, Cursive/The Good Life, The National, Pedro the Lion, Radiohead... and those are just a few currently active bands... forget going through the singer/songwriters or no longer functioning bands... For really great lyrics, look outside of pop-punk/emo lyrics. The subject matter does not vary much, and it's all done in a really lame way 16 year-old teen angst annoying way.. For decent lyrics that are along the lines of Spill Canvas', Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service both are much better.

They sound like most pop-punk bands. I don't hear what's so innovative about it. This is no 'Endtroducing', haha. Because they mellow out a bit more, add a couple of strings here and there, and have decently written songs does not make them innovative... It might be a little rare for pop-punk, but it's nothing new. I'd like you to tell me exactly what is innovative about this album, because I find absolutely nothing. What rules are being broken?

I really don't find anything that stands out in this album to me. There are some catchy songs, but nothing mind blowing. When this site overhyped Say Anything and Brand New, it was fine, because those were both amazing albums. So I was expecting this one to be along the same lines, but it's not. To me, Brand New's lyrics are 1,000 times more poignant than TSC's. This album is so overhyped on here, it makes me laugh.

You all should pay more attention to Ryan Mills. He's consistently the most(/only) worthwhile staff member.

Ok for starters you make some very good points. but first of all do you really expect to see a lot of those artists you just listed getting a lot of attention on this site? This is a pop punk site, so expect to see pop punk. Sufjan Stevens is amazing (not to mention the fact that he plans to try and release a record for each state which is just the shit) but the staff/most members here like different brands of music then him.

As far as lyrics go, i dont know how old you are but again these lyrics seem to fit into my age group, i am 18 and these lyrics mean something to me. Maybe you have matured past the "pouring out your heart" lyrics but i would say a majority on this site have not. And yes all of those artists you listened write amazing lyrics. (Although i feel the good life's earlier material was better, i liked black out much more than album of the year but thats just me)

I never said this album was very innovative, this is not wilco or radiohead this is a pop punk band. For a pop punk band their musicisanship is far exceeding most in the genre. If you expected this album to be completely different then Sunsets then of coarse you are going to be disappointed. They simply were not after becoming the most innovative band ever.

Brand New, Say Anything, and The Spill Canvas' lyrics are all very deferent. While i find max and jesse's lyrics to be much more deep, while TSC's lyrics like i said are just simple heart break etc.

I like Ryan and I read all of his reviews, but cmon dude you are on a pop punk website, the other members of the staff like pop punk.

Meh whatever personal opinion, i think this album is great. And i know this is filled with grammar errors im sorry dont have to time to fix them.

haha. I never thought their drummer was that good until I saw them live. The drumming on the albums seems to fit so well with the songs that it doesn't seem like he's doing anything spectacular, but live, you can see how good he really is.

I just highlighted all the bands you listed that I LOVE. I post about those bands anytime I get information on them as well. By the way, Spill Canvas is far from "pop-punk." I like a few pop-punk bands here and there, but I listen to them mostly for fun just so I can blast them loud and roll the windows down; however, they're far from my favorite types of bands. Everyone listen to my favorite current band: CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH! (http://www.clapyourhandssayyeah.com)

Cool man. I respect your reply. I guess we have to agree to disagree on this album. I guess the reason I comment on this cd specifically is because of the hype it gets on the site. The last two cds to be hyped like so (Deja Entendu, ...is a real boy) deserved it, where I don't feel like this one can stand up to those two.... but that's just me it seems. And I post about it on here because I used to be in love with all of this type of music... but now I just feel like the 'pouring out your heart' kinda stuff... it just doesn't really touch me like more mature, deep lyrics of bands I listed before. But I'm 20, where when I was 18, this woulda been right up my alley. I think there is so much better music out there, and I wish that some people on this site would look more into the recs of people like Ryan Mills and Jared Kaufman, because in general... they recommend some of the best music around.

Haven't heard the new one yet, but I just can't get into them. My friend gave me their Sunsets and Car Crashes CD, but I just don't see what all the hype is about.

As for Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah... I keep hearing great things about them. I'll have to check them out very soon.

I've only listened to about half of the album only because I want something new when I actually get it in the mail. I am in love with every thing I have heard so far. And to the kid that asked for bands who eclipse the Spill Canvas lyrics, who the fuck do you think you are....some immature little fuck, that comment ranks up there with some of the stupidest shit i have ever heard.....There are proabably thousands of abnds who write better lyrics than the fucking spill canvas.....

I feel the same way. Deja and IARB are two of my all-time favorite records and this album just doesn't come close in my book. I think 2005 in general is that way. Nothing has really blown me away. The new Motion City is great and so is Gatsby's, but it doesn't hit me as hard as those two albums did and TSC doesn't come close, unless I need to give it more time. The only record that might be able to blow me away is Jacks Mannequin. I've heard most of it, but it has been low-quality internet cds, so maybe when I am hit with full album quality, it will be my IARB of the year. Because, I really need to be amazed.

I think the tracks names are mixed up on the back of the album or in the booklet, but when I imported it onto my computer they were in a different order towards the middle of the album. the second i heard them break in at the beginning of "lusta prima vista" I knew this would be a great album and I am thoroughly impressed. its beautiful.
