Just interested in what everyone is into on the heavier/hardcore side of the music spectrum. Not a huge fan of speed metal and such.

Well, hardcore bands I've been listening to lately would be...
CIV
Comadre
Suicide File
Takaru
Backstabber's Inc
Old Man Gloom
HeWhoCorrupts
Thou
Grief
Propagandhi (favorite punk band overall, and their newer albums have kind of a metal influence so I'm counting them..)

For more hardcore sounding try:
Death By Stereo
Converge
Botch
Burnt By The Sun

For something heavy maybe something like Neurosis for starters? A Sun that Never Sets is a good album to start with, and also their best! For something leaning more torwards the hardcore side definitely a lot of bands what Jumpoff replied with. This Bike is a Pipebomb is pretty good too.

This Bike is a Pipe Bomb isn't remotely heavy though they are a great band :-p Folk punk is tops.
I was thinking about saying Neurosis but I've only really listened to Through Silver and Blood, which is a great album regardless.

LOL I really like them too, and recommend them to everyone almost all the time regardless of any complete 100% relevance haha. Like Slowdive as well! But I think people are getting tired of me talking/recommending them though.
Yeah, that's a great album. Any album by Neurosis is good to me though. I like them lots.

I haven't listened to Slowdive because I haven't liked most shoegaze that I've heard. The really loud guitars and buried vocals just don't do it for me.
I tend to recommend The Menzingers and Propagandhi regardless of relevance myself, Propagandhi just happened to fit the mold this time.

Slowdive is actually the most accessible big shoegaze act going, imo. Not nearly as noisy as My Bloody Valentine. If you want to try to get into shoegaze, I'd download Slouvaki and give it a whirl. It'll surprise you.

Ah definitely....such an A+ album. Personally I've been listening to shoegaze for a very long time and I haven't heard one shoegaze band that comes close to them. Or Souvlaki's album. I like Alison's Halo and think they're pretty good but not nearly as comparable, neither is MBV to say the least no matter if they're the pioneers. Ride and Chapterhouse are also some of my fav's as well but can't top Slowdive imo.
you really only need to listen to one current heavy band to get your fix of loud goodness. then you can resort back to everything soft that you like. anyone with a functioning brain should know this answer too.

If I end up going I might be seeing Moving Mountains with Rosetta in a few days.
Wake/Lift is one of my favorite albums.
"Red In Tooth And Claw" was very close to being my favorite song of last year.
Rosetta would be relevant if they actually stopped canceling shows

You are a lucky bastard.

No one ever comes to Wisconsin anyway, so this doesn't affect me much.

Worst band to come out of the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area. Ever.
if by worse you mean best underoath cover band to come out of Pennsylvania ever, then you are correct.
worse band to come out of PA ever is either Circus Circus or Anna Sage

lol they sound like underoath now? I just remember the Christmas song which was the only thing they had on their myspace for a while. Then I saw them outside a circa survive show trying to sell their cd's. It's like every scene girl in Scranton is friends with the band.
every scene girl in Pennsylvania is friends with them lol
aways best is the local 19 year death metal, new era hat, gym shorts band that makes its way onto the bill. those are the worst
