Correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks like Monty's Fan Club have shortened their name to just Monty (http://www.montyrock.com).

They must have. I mean, their website says just Monty, as does their pureVOLUME page, their new cd cover, and everything else I can find about them.

thier myspace too.
I gotta say that the name Monty's Fan Club is a little too similar to Jeffries Fan Club, so I approve of this name change. :)

Nah dude, it's the same band. They've just changed their name. They haven't been a 'ska' band for a while now, basically just a rock band with horns. They still have a trombone in their lineup now, as far as i'm aware. They've been gradually growing away from the ska thing for ages now.
Brandon is right.....def more punk now but with horns(especially on their new cd)....i think it is something that sounds unique ya know

I prefer the old stuff, i'd say, but I don't mind the new stuff at all either.

You are 100% correct.
They have indeed shortened the name to just Monty.
They didn't feel that "montys fan club" fit them anymore.
They've been wanting to change the name for awhile now but didn't want to change it to something that was completely far off from the old name. So shortening the name to Monty seemed like the way to go.

Makes sense. I find it a bit pointless when bands gain a fairly big following and then change their name drastically.

I fucking cant stand monty's fan club or monty, sure I love ska with a passion and I actually like some of their music but honestly,
if you look back a few alternative press's in the low profile unsigned "sign my band" section, whoever AP was interviewing in the band specifically said "they cannot stand the s word (ska), we are just punk rock with horns, "which to me is total bullshit, that is like the biggest sellout thing I've ever heard.
Lets say they do have the ska label, that means they aren't recognized as much in mainstream magazines.
All they want is more recognition and to me they actually do sound SKA!, so why not just label yourself a ska band,
all in all
fuck monty.

The fact that you said fuck monty and "i like some of their songs" is total bullshit to me too. Some bands might not want to be put into the slim category of a ska band. they didnt make any money from not being ska either, and the majority of bands out there dont join a band to become famous. They would become actors if they wanted to be in magazines

To RXbandit22: You obviously have not heard a lot of MFC's music in the past year or so. If you compare their current stuff to their old 'Thanks For the Metal Sign' cd..... you can see just how different they are now & sound NOTHING like they used to.
I think they're great musicians and to be able to incorporate horns into the type of music they're currently playing takes a lot of well-thought out work. And they do it greatly.
As for the name change, they'll still always be MFC to me. That was their major concern with changing the name... because of the reaction the fans would have & would end up liking the old name better, etc. But they simply felt as though the name was holding them back.
I actually have a video filmed 2 years ago of Ryan from the band talking about how they aren't ska, etc.

as long as they still cover bon jovi at their shows, it's all okay.

This was the nasty rumor I was referring to a few weeks ago, Brandon.
I'm not sure who said it, but yes they have a trombone and a trumpet in the lineup.
And they call themselves "action rock. Not ska. They've been getting further and further away from ska for the last year and a half.
Personally, I'm a little sad about the name change. But I do understand. They're trying to stay true to themselves.
as long as they still cover bon jovi at their shows, it's all okay.
They do.
They even played two songs off Thanks for the Metal Sign at the CD release show.
the thing that really blows my mind is when bands get blasted for saying they are not ska. the word sellout and Monty in the same sentence is so crazy! these guys have been playing for years and finished college on their own i think??? then they go on warped tour for the second summer in a row with no backing from a major label. they made it to warped on their own.....and they are labeled sellots???.....you have to be kidding me! I am sorry but you have to give a band like this credit and if they want to change their name then fine, as long as they rock....

They aren't sellouts, they do everything on their own. And they're very proud of it.
They do what they think is right, and they really care alot about their fans.
Honestly, they're good guys, and they put alot of thought into this. They think it better reflects how they are now, rather than a band name picked years ago when the band started out as a joke.
I stil like their older stuff better, and I can't really get into a few of their new songs, but I'll still support them. They still have a great live show, too.

I completely agree.
These guys have always been 'favorites' of mine in the area.
They have amazing attitudes & really love their music & fans.
