Hey everyone. So I'm new to this community and I was hoping to see the music you guys are interested in and if you could provide me with some new bands to check out. This is for everyone, not me. Share the bands you like and give some suggestions.
I Like:
Bright Eyes, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, Death Cab For Cutie, Bon Iver, Cold War Kids, The Album Leaf, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Dandy Warhols, The Black Angels
I would appreciate if you guys could hook me up with some new bands, and if you want to give me the bands you like and I'll do the same, I have a huge variety of music I listen to, and I'm sure I could help you out.
Cheers,
Alec

You should check out The Thermals in my opinion. Well done garage rock. Also, Phil Ochs was a folk musician who was at his peak around the time that Bob Dylan was at his, and I honestly prefer Phil Ochs. His lyrics were often political related.

Some really great stuff I've been spinning lately:
Devendra Banhart - Nino Rojo
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah- s/t
Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavilion
Titus Andronicus- The Airing of Grievances
Fleet Foxes- s/t
You and I seem to have extremely similar tastes so I'm sure you'll enjoy those.
And if you have trouble finding links to .zips or .rars, I'll hook you up.

Jumpoff, I will most definitely check that guy out, I am a dylan fan for as long as I remember and I love everything that bares similarities to him.
Some guys I have found that bare similarities to Dylan are The Tallest Man On Earth and The War On Drugs, i suggest you check them out
bowl of oranges, we have awesomely similar musical tastes, and I already am loving Animal Collective's new one and I'm seeing them in Chicago in a few weeks, as well as Fleet Foxes, beautiful. Im going to go check the rest of these out, I'll see if i can find them and if not i'll get to you
Check out The Hold Steady and Animal Collective's EP Water Curses if you haven't already.

Neutral Milk Hotel?
LOVE them, oooh god so much.
This will be a huge stretch, and maybe inpossible to appreciate, but Antony and the Johnsons? they are a great musical act that takes a great, open minded appreciation of music to really get the full effect of. Sick, twisted, tortured, warped gay soul taking it out on piano. Listen if you dare.
Parachutes is an icelandic band very similar to Sigur Ros. You might enjoy.

I will probably be taking the job of reviewing their newest at some point. Some guy on MSN was trying to sell them to me the other day. I'll check them out when I'm over my Merriweather Post Pavillion infactuation.

They both fall under the post-rock realm of things, but Sigur Ros has always been on the edge of that because of their heavy reliance on vocals.

How do you guys feel about Ra Ra Riot? I saw them do a 6 O'clock show last summer at Summerfest (funkel'll know what that is) and i loved them, not knowing them prior to that, then to learn that they made the top 50 records of the year by Rolling Stone (who i rarely trust, but this one was obvious)

Already heard Tallest Man on Earth and it's one of my favorite albums of the year actually. Will check out War on Drugs certainly.
If you haven't already, you should also check out Akron/Family, Espers, and Mason Proper. The first two are folk (I'd say more on the freak folk side then the Dylan side), while Mason Proper is a self proclaimed "noise pop" band. All three are definitely enjoyable.

Well, The Queers are playing nearby soon so I will probably see them (though they are not exactly my favorite punk band they are still good...)
On the indie side of things, I was supposed to be going ot see Moving Mountains either tomorrow or thursday (Birthday present since I'm 17 on wednesday) but there is now supposed to be a huge snow storm and it looks like I might have to miss both dates.

The problem with the Blood Bank EP for me is that he put his vocals too high in the mix. I prefered it so much when the vocals seemed more like an extra instrument than the standout (if that makes sense to you). And he used autotune on one of the songs which is a completely nono to me.

Ouch, thats harsh. I agree with what you said about his voice, I always felt as if, it wasnt a actual voice? haha, odd, but yeah. the autotune sounds horrible, thats a little depressing. I loved tuning my guitar to CGEGCC to play Skinny Love.
