I didn't like the way johnny depp looked for sweeney todd until I saw it all together so maybe it'll be the same way with this. I dunno, I just don't see that being a reason to not want to see the movie. I know its an amazing cast an its tim burton. Me not having faith in tim burton means I have no faith in the whole world. I think that the Disney version had the perfect Cheshire Cat, and being one of my favourite characters I am somewhat nervous about what Burton's will be like.
I do think that Matt Lucas is the perfect Tweedledum/Tweedledee, and I hope they do the Walrus and the Carpenter.
I am not getting too hyped over this, Burton hasn't really wowed me since Big Fish.

"We finished shooting in December after only 40 days," Zanuck says. Now the live action is being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D.
The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.
There is the usual Burton-esque ghoulishness (Helena Bonham Carter's Red Queen, whose favorite retort is "Off with their heads," has a moat filled with bobbing noggins)

understandable, but i think if you don't look like this as a remake of the animated version of the movie (which it isn't, it is a sequel of sorts 10 years after the fact), but you look at it as a fantastic voyage through time and space and drugs n shit where everyone looks all kinds of fucked up and crazy...

probably smart move going to a more extreme look to avoid any Wonka comparisons hahaha
According to Aint It Cool, the script isnt a direct adaptation of the book, and more of an "extention" of it, being that Alice is older and it takes place after the original story, which where I come from we call that a SEQUEL lol, but more or less I think it'll be more along the lines of Hook, not exactly a sequel, but, then again yeah it is lol.
I'm looking forward to it tho, he's been my fav director since forever and its great that he's back to his roots at Disney, especially now that his old homeboys John Lassater(especcially) and Brad Bird are calling shots now.

How has he been more style than substance lately??? 3 of the last 4 movies he's done followed their source material very closely(excluding Corpse Bride, it was loosely based on an old east euro/jewish folktale) and with Big Fish, that was actually superior to the book. But Sweeney and Charlie were both done great

this movie is going to be crap.
tim burton hasn't made a good movie in years, and i'm getting so tired of his collaboration with depp and bonham carter.
i think they're great actors, but burton is just too "crazy" of a director. he thinks by throwing in weird colors, characters, etc... that it will be a masterpiece. but instead the movie is almost incoherent because of so much stuff going on.
blah, idk, i just think this movie will be vastly overrated like sweeney todd, and the only reason it will do well is because the kids going to see it multiple times will be the same ones who go to hot topic and buy all the stupid nightmare before christmas crap.

I must say I didnt watch Sweeny Todd, but I enjoyed Coraline a lot. Anyways, I think he is doing a good job with going a little 'overboard' as pretty much everyone knows the story already. So it makes it more exciting to see it with more 'special' effects (even though I'm a fan of the 1959 version, still) plus it will be awesome to watch while on drugs.
But yes, tired of the constant Depp and Bonham Carter collabo. So I think it's nice to see Anne Hathaway in this.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, but with that said, I fell asleep for the whole thing. But, I saw the first 10-15 minutes, then woke up for the final 10 minutes or so, and did not enjoy those small portions. Haven't seen Corpse Bride though, so can't comment on that.
i figured it would be charlie....
i understand it was aimed at kids, but even then it should still be mildly enjoyable for adults. there was too much stuff going on at once, and i couldn't imagine that a kid would be able to understand everything that's going on. it was just a huge colorful mess

I can't wait! I've always loved Alice in Wonderland, and this looks like it's going to be much darker. Almost like American McGhee's Alice, which will be great since they don't seem to be making a film or that anymore - I used to love that game! The good thing about Burton is you can have total faith in him to produce something spectacular.

I'm going to be extremely upset if Johnny Depp somehow fucks up being the mad hatter. I am curious to see if it works out though, the animated disney version was my favorite movie for a while, and the mad hatter is my favorite (book and/or movie) character of all time.

I was just told that this is indeed happening. Disney made a bad move by trying to fight piracy with a declining product. Now they're losing a lot of the money they will get from this movie.

Not one of Burton's best films but I really liked it. The 3D was really well done.
3D wasn't worth it. But then again, 3D is almost never worth it. It always seems like there's just enough 3D in a movie that they hope after a small while you forget the movie is in 3D.
Anyways, terrible movie in my opinion - but I can understand why people would like it. It had a plot that was similar in theme to Hook. And it had that dumb formula: "Kid without confidence enters imaginary land. Random stuff happens. Kid has confidence. End with battle sequence." I.e., Chronicles of Narnia, Star Wars Episode I, Lord of the Rings, etc., etc.
Johnny Depp acted like Willy Wonk just took a snort of cocaine off one of Edward Scissorhands' blades and now he's acting all palsy-ish/Michael J. Fox+Parkinsons. And then throw in a Krusty the Klown look with random Scottish accents. (What the hell was up with those accents?)
I just felt bored the whole time.

Ugh, the theater was full of them, and they were all hyper and loud as if they were super cool for going to the movies without their parents or something. I'm pretty patient so it wasn't too bad, but the local theater is normally pretty empty so I'm not used to it being crowed with people like it was today. The more people there are the more it increases the chances of people talking, I guess.
I'm usually guilty of talking during movies too, but I only talk to the person I'm with, and I whisper as quietly as I can as just commentary or an observation about the movie or something. They were just loudly going off about random things. Don't know why they paid money just to sit in a theater and talk about other things because they can't have paid much attention to the movie.

This movie was just so..., I don't know, average, I guess? I really don't know how else to describe it. Nothing spectacular but on the flip side, nothing terrible. Despite some kids sitting behind me who thought it was just hilarious to pretend that they were "trippppiingg baalls, maaan!", I enjoyed it.
The only thing I really didn't like (because I saw it in "2D"), was how some of the scenes had to have a "3D moment". Like where something needlessly had to "jump" at you or fly across the screen. It took my attention away from the scene itself at times, and, sadly, I know that this is going to become the biggest trend in film making.

I would agree with this post, and I also had annoying kids sitting behind me haha. I hate 3D because it seems so cheesy to me, and I felt like the moments where it was obviously made for 3D were a bit distracting (since I did see it in 2D). However, I did like how much they incorporated Jabberwocky into it, because I wasn't sure how much they would. I studied Jabberwocky and Mimsy Were The Borogoves in one of my classes last semester, and the moment I saw the Bandersnatch it made me smile.

planning on taking my 2 year old, but after the awful response I've seen, and the terrible trailers...I think I'm gonna wait. Too bad cause the dark cartoony look/feel is her favorite. I'm just not sure I can set through it.

I just got back from seeing this, and while I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, I still thought it was okay.

Tweedle Dee and Dum freaked me out.
Saw it last night. Cheshire Cat = win. Thought Johnny Depp was great too though I didn't quite understand why he was only Scottish SOME of the time. I guess because he's mad? xP
EDIT - And I saw it in 3D and actually didn't think it was used in a gimmicky way. The only bit I can think of was when the March Hare threw a cup at the screen.

My brother saw it with his girlfriend last night and he didn't like it.
But he also didn't like There Will Be Blood so I'm not really trusting him 100%, but it's still discouraging.

People obviously haven't liked the film so just see it and make up your own mind.

I thought it was terrible. 3/10. It gets that score due to the mad hatter dance towards the end, and for bringing up bad memories of the dance scene in Spidey 3.
Visually appealing, sure, but no substance.

Very insane. I wonder if there was a large amount of older folks who wanted to see it and compare to the original. This is really a much bigger opening than I ever thought it would get.

I was thinking somewhere between 50-60 and then I started reading reports of around 70 and couldn't believe it. Never thought it would hit the 100M mark for its opening weekend.

I saw it this morning with my little brother and sister. To be honest, it wasn't as good as I though it would be but I still enjoyed it a lot. I want to see it again because I was like half asleep.

I didn't really either but when I saw it Friday at four in the afternoon, and it was sold out, I figured it would end up with a huge amount this weekend. That's pretty crazy how much it made though.
