View Full Version : The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
I guess this is supposed to be the Metro Station of Zelda games, but I love it.
What do you hate and/or love about it?

I haven't played this but I'm currently playing Ocarina of Time on my computer. Oh the memories.
This was the best GameCube game, tied with Resident Evil 4

You definitely should! Ocarina was an amazing game too.

I've heard good things about RE4, and I've been told that the re-release on Wii is excellent. I might buy it.

I'd have to say the same about Majora's Mask.

I remember how outraged I was when they first showcased The Wind Waker at the E3 expo. The whole online Zelda community was in an uproar, being deprived of that game we thought we were promised by the GameCube demo video featuring Link and Ganondorf.
In the end I loved the game though. Probably by favourite, after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Tied with A Link to the Past ;)

This was the first game I got for the Gamecube besides Animal Crossing, and I fucking loved both games. I'm actually debating whether to buy another gamecube and get them both again. I miss the annoying bird people

I loved it. I sucked sometimes at sailing, though. I have no sense of direction.
Personally, I think the disappointing Zelda was Majora's Mask.

Ocarina is always going to be at the top of our lists, but I'm glad there are more people that love Wind Waker as much as I do.

I don't think any game will be able to trump Ocarina because it holds such a huge nostalgic factor.

just download this: http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/n64/project64.html and google/torrent a N64 ROM, like Zelda. It works beautifully.

I just need the audio/video cables for my Gamecube.
There are so many islands in this game that I would love to live on. If they were real, that is.
One of the best games I've ever played, a classic

I concur to the utmost degree.

Yes! Windfall Island. That was my favorite by far. It had a cool feel to it, and I think it would have been cool if Link could buy a home there if you wanted to.

My memory tricked me, it was of course at Spaceworld back in 2000 the video was shown, before E3 took over as the largest and most important event for Nintendo. It's pretty lousy quality, and bad sound, but you get the idea and why The Wind Waker came as a surprise when it was announced a year or so later ;)

That trailer does look badass. I can understand why people would be upset. But honestly, if people didn't give this game a chance just because of the different animation, then they are truly missing out. Great game.

I don't doubt that a few people here and there dropped playing the game because of the cel-shading style, but it was released to rave reviews and it sold very well, so I don't think that was a big problem in the end. The cartoony cel-shading style was just a complete shock to many, but those who wanted that game eventually got it in Twilight Princess.

I have friends who never played it because of the look. I thought the art direction of this game was fantastic, though I must admit I was weirded out by it at first, it became a huge part of its charm. The characters were so expressive and the environment was so engrossing. This, and the emphasis on exploration reminded me more of the older games.
Aside from that, the gameplay, level designs, and especially the combat is way better than its N64 counterparts.
Twilight Princess improved on a lot of the gameplay aspects (things as simple as running and swinging your sword) but it never quite won me over like Wind Waker.
Anyone play Phantom Hourglass? Pretty cool if you enjoyed this one.

Ill admit I was skeptical when I first saw the trailer and screenshots at IGN years ago. But after playing it, not only can I say it was an amazing entry to the Zelda series, it was probably the best release of 2003. And people always rip on the graphics, but it had some of the most beautiful imagery and lighting Ive ever seen in a game.
Better than 99% of games. The worst 3d Zelda, but a brilliant game all the same.
I agree with it being brilliant.
