At the warped show in sacramento (July 7), Thrice (http://www.thrice.net) played two new songs. One was called "we are the image of the invisible" and the other one, according to the setlist my brother caught, was called "drop A."
'We are the image of the invisible' was a normal Thrice song with some screaming, while 'drop a' started off as a slow song then started building. The bridge was kind of jazzy with Dustin singing and then Eddie and Teppie in the background. The song ended with a nice breakdown.
At Thrice's tent they confirmed that Vheissu will be in stores September 27th.

Had a great set in Sacramento. "We are the image of the invisible" is catchy as hell, and the other one is something completely new and fresh for thrice. the new album is going to slit some throats.

I'm sure "Drop A" was just to remind them what to tune the guitars to. Therefore there's no title yet

yeah but lowest possible tuning I have ever heard of was in C, so unless they were talking about just the A string, then I don't see why it would be that.

Drop A though? That is REALLY low. Really deep tuning...

yeah that's what I said, I don't even think it exists
i'm sure with special strings and modified guitars drop A would be possible.... but i dont see why any band would ever do that though

well every tuning exists. just i dunno if anyone has ever done it. someone has to do new stuff. drop D didnt just pop out of nowhere. someone had to figure out how it worked and it's uses.

you are from roxbury, no wonder ur so damn dumb....i swear if this is sherman or someone who knows sherman...im gonna slap you.... the lowest tuning is C.....wow....haha. dammit it is you sherman....haha
throw some thicker guage strings on the make up for the tension you are going to let off by down tuning that far down. for those who play 7 string guitars, drop the low B down a step.
the image of the invisible is one of my fav thrice songs though....it blew me away at the bamboozle. sherman was there =P.

Drop A is entirely possible, as noted above. A bunch of the 'new' metal bands use it (Slipknot, etc.).
Quick piece of trivia, Foo Fighters use drop A in "Stacked Actors" on There Is Nothing Left to Lose. It gives a nice, thick octave that's playable with one finger and mimics the bass, which is then free to do a walking line without losing the low root note that is needed.

it's definately not refering to drop A tuning. Bands like nile play in drop A tuning.

I was assuming the 6 string tuning because I don't think Thrice uses a 7 string.

thrice is a pretty creative band, tuning to drop a for a song isn't beyond them. we'll see when the album drops.

I'm thinking that drop A probably means:
a) Tuning a 7-string down a step, although I can't really see Thrice using 7-string guitars.
b) dropping the A string down along with the low E, although that would make for some fucked up power chords
c) maybe dropping the B string down to an A...? I know they did something similar to that on The Abolition of Man.
I really doubt they'd tune a 6-string guitar down to A, because the strings would be floppy as hell. Although it would fit their pattern of tuning down farther for each album.
(identity crisis=E, illusion of safety=drop C#, artist=drop C)

throwdown uses drop b. hahaha.

if thrice is playing in drop a, they are probly just playing a 6 string tuned to drop a WHICH IS possible. All you have to do is put thicker guage string on to maintain the tension. Just cause your guitar comes with 10 guages doesn't mean thats the only shit you can throw on there. What would be funny is if the song is just called "Drop A" and we are arguing about nothing haha.

p.s. I tuned my guitar to this "Drop A". I found it as "Baritone: A D G C E A"....sounds intense and my strings were slapping the shit out of the fretboard....then again i dont have a 4000 gibson.
cnat' wait for this album, i'm gonna be broke this year :D

it's also possible that they were using baritone guitars. i don't know what they were playing, but gibson makes baritone les pauls, and danelectro has a model, off the top of my head. i doubt they would use dano though.
