View Full Version : I mean seriously, we are the fucking champions?
When the hell did Billy Joe Armstrong's ego become so big that his emo haircut can't contain it? OK, I won't bash American Idiot, even if it was an abomination, but Im watching their new video now (When September Ends, if the chorus is anything to go by), where theyre badmouthing american soldiers, and portay the band as saviours, standing on pillars with white light shining out behind them. And if this isn't enough, they've started ending their live shows by playing We Are the Champions.

Did you hear how he said that the song "boulevard of broken dreams" was the next "Bohemian Rhapsody" or something like that. He shouldn't even compare Bohemian rhapsody to any songs they've ever made. I liked their older stuff. But their new cd is terrible.

no...dookie came out in the fall of 1994...grunge bands (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden) were dominant during the period of 91-94....very few bands were still getting airplay in 94...and Dookie just put the final nail in the coffin.

Alice in Chains released their self-titled album in '95 and released their Unplugged live in '96. Grunge hardly died off in '94. I distinctly remember half my high school class in '94 walking around in Nirvana, STP, or Soundgarden shirts. Grunge faded away after '96. However, it did not simply just disappear like hair metal.

You know, Billie Joe gets way too much credit for what little he does. Sure, he can write catchy songs, but hes playing just makes me sick. The thing about Tom is that he creates insanely good, although very simple verse riffs and of course power chords for most of the choruses. But with Billie, hell he pretty much power chords his way through a whole song with a couple of palm mutes in there to break it up. And of course in the past few years they got that back up guitar player to actually play the songs while Billie Joe pretty much uses the guitar as a necklace that has the volume set to 3. I mean play your own damn songs, either that or make the back up guitarist part of the band, or at least freaking give him credit every once in awhile. Thats really what pisses me off, I guess because I see it from a guitarists point of view.

play your own damn songs? Ok..have you listened to the song "what's my age again" then surely you know the power chord riffs...have you listened to the song "When I come around"...compare the two and you'll see that they're exactly alike...except one came five years later...play your own damn songs...gimme a break. And what about his acoustic work? Time of Your Life will always be remembered by society...I don't know any acoustic work of Tom's that can match that. He also has occasional "solos"...although they're not talented...It's more than what Tom does in my opinion. Also, he's a much better vocalist than Tom Delonge and he's able to reproduce the same sound during their live set....two things Tom cannot do. I dont think you got the playing your own songs, Im talking about Billie Joe not playing the majority of the guitar riffs in the songs. But yes, both are extremely similar, not was arguing that though. And I definately agree with Time of your life, thats a great song made with a very simple structure. jason white gets alot of recongition from green day. every show he gets introduced along with the rest of the new guys. and more recently he was even in the new music video. which he has never done before. so they are giving him spotlight and such.
blink 182 issue.... i liked blink first. BUT green day is far better. any musician can tell you that. but yea travis and tre could probably have a drum battle and tie. but bj and mike are way better than tom and mark.
also billie joe plays the guitar leads on wake me up, give me novacaine, and others from the new album live himself.
but to give respect to green day and blink..... i believe to really make it as a 3 piece you have to be a really good 3 piece. there are so many 5 pieces doing the same thing that blink and gd do with 3 at times. if you can pull it ogg 3 piece is the best way to go i think.

i'd seriously like to hear the track that you've heard that shows tre is even half as good as travis.
What Blink tracks showcase Travis' amazing drum skills?
It isn't a matter of one amazing song someone can write.

None.
Time to Break up
I'm Lost Without You
plus his ability to write different beats to simple "punk" music

if travis and tre were to have a drum battle there is no way you can tell me tre would tie with him.

I edited it, because I didn't want to seem like I was trying to say Travis isn't a good dummer.
But anyways, I would say Travis is better, but I think Tre Cool is above okay.

Never said that.

Tre cool is a good drummer but in a "drum battle" i don't think he could touch Travis, not saying travis is the best in the world but those two compared, tre hasn't shown me anything for me to think he's better

Freddie Mercury may be in hell, but he is happy that Green Day is covering his music, because Billy Joe is a better frontman.
Now, you may be asking yourself, "Why would Freddie Mercury be in hell?". The answer is because he's a gay.

However I've always hated Tre and I'm starting to do it with Travis and his show and his "familia" stuff. We still have Alkaline Trio.
