View Full Version : Shitty Bands liking Good Music?
HumtheTales

Allow me to explain. John O from The Maine just posted a blog. While there I checked out his myspace, and he actually listens to some pretty damn good stuff, The Album Leaf is playing on his profile. But everything I have ever listened to of that band just sucks so bad. How can someone with possibly good taste in music but out the dreck that they produce with good conscience? Do you guys have any other examples of this? Hell in any medium. Or does this just not make sense for me alone?

i feel like its like an unwritten law for scene bands to write music much poppier and more trendy than their influences.

Hayley from Paramore likes Propagandhi, and a shitload of other good punk bands.
3!OH!3 listen to a lot of pitchfork approved music.
Pete Wentz/Patrick Slump love Neurosis
If you are in a band you generally have good taste. Im saying generally because there are exceptions to this.

Yeah, I saw one of the dudes from Good Charlotte DJ a few years ago. Some terrible DJing, technically, but in terms of songs it wasn't that terrible. Lots of shit, but also the typical LA hipster type shit: MSTRKRFT, Justice, etc. Whatever they heard Steve Aoki play once, I guess.

hahah i just skimmed through some live videos to see if that was true and them doing their version shows their lack of talent
and also there are certain bands or songs that are already great and so original you cannot tamper with
you dont cover fugazi and you dont cover at the drive in
you can make a ramones song original because it is simple.

I don't know. I think it's mandatory really for any "hardcore" band to list atleast one band that has credibility as an influence to seem legitimate. I think the closest most people get is Fugazi.

Thank you for posting exactly what I wanted to say. Fall of Troy aren't any worse than a lot of other bands I see threads about. They aren't even that bad to begin with. And CTTS have been getting bigger and bigger for the past few years. I'd place them alongside Hot Cross for entry-level Screamo bands.

No. Fall Of Troy is a band that plays derivative music ripping off better musicians that relies on a gimmick (delay pedals) that is fronted by an entitled asshole. They're a textbook example of what can be wrong with being a musician.
and duh, circle takes the square isn't obscure. i was just saying i'm glad i never bought that jacket because everytime i see someone with a CTTS shirt on, i generally think to myself "wow, that person has terrible taste in music" because it's usually some fall of troy, chiodos, treos loving moron trying to look cool.
they are the textbook example of absolutely fucking horrid music also.
Hey Kevin
01/09/09, 04:40 PM
fall of troy are fucking terrible.
but the Bane and CTTS gear arent surprising
you know they took a while to pick that shit out before they did that picture too
also in a Chiodos video, their guitar player is wearing a Locust shirt AND in an episode of Degrassi a girl opens her locker and she has a Turbonegro and Locust sticker stuck on
and watch the scene when the guys are doing coke in Superbad and behind the guy with the afro, i think, you can see a Some Girls Heaven's Pregnant Teens poster on the wall
now i post Alicia Silverstone in a melt banana shirt
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/uckgrind/mr_fp_107599.jpg
you do know that Kevin Smith was part of Degrassi at one point so thats where that punk shit comes from
and yes the Bane and CTTS shit is surprising because just like your Chiodos example the Fall of Troy fucking sucks

So then why is it such a surprise that he has a CTTS sweater on? Ryan "Rejoin'der", HELLO? Are we not reminded of the fucking Ron Paul rallying "skramz" retard?
CTTS plays good independent music, and they stick to staying, in relative terms, obscure. How many fucking retarded Fugazi fans are out there? That doesn't mean Fugazi sucks.
