This is a fantastic day!! I've been waiting for like 301 days for this annoucment.
I'm looking forward to being bombarded by the Canadian sports media with coverage of this not only for the next few days, but for the rest of the summer!
Some of the proposed rule changes are gonna be great for the game. I'm most excited about the idea of a shootout in the regular season, who wants ties anyway?
All i know is that the Leafs are gonna have a chance (all be it a small one) to get Crosby in the draft. The Lottery is gonna take place on the 21st of June, while the Draft is gonna be on the 30th.
Welcome back NHL! Finally a sport to look forward to watching again.

no way are the leafs gonna get Crosby...the leafs are stacked
even with the standings up in the air, I doubt my rangers will make the playoffs this season. Although it was a year off in the NHL, hundreds still played in Europe so...they're not dead yet.

anyone read that article on yahoo a while back.. where they were thinking about changing the ice color to blue and making the lines different colors. it said it makes it easier to watch on TV.
2 rules i want to see go
2 line pass.
offsides

to get rid of the two line pass they should take out the red line altogether...i also heard them talking about making goalie pads smaller and the nets a little bigger, this would definitely help scoring...i would like to see them make the season shorter also, like from 82 games down to around 70 because there is no way the playoffs should run into june

I know the leafs chances at getting Crosby are like slim to none....but a guy can dream can't he?
The Rangers have to do something about Jagr...even after the 24% roll back, he's still schedualed to make like $8.4 Million. Apparently they are ready to buyout Holik..which is a smart move...why they payed him like $9 Million in the first place is crazy.
The best thing the Rangers have going from them is going to be Kevin Weekes. He's an amazing goaltender! I'm still upset that the leafs passed on him last season when Carolina offered him for nothing more than a second round draft pick.

apparently they want to get rid of the red line..but some owners don't like the idea of doing that. It is one of the rule changes being thrown around though. Goalie pads will decrease in width by an inch, as well as their chest protectors will be much smaller as well and they will apparently be wearing more form fitting jerseys too. The bigger nets still may not happen, the players are hoping that with the league already wanting to decrease the goalies pads, thats should be enough to help out the offence.
next Thursday is the rumored date for the press conference to take place in which all the new rule changes and whatnot are announced.

it's really unlikely that the leafs would get crosby since he is a habs fan. and what's with holik that huy didn't deserve 9 million bucks a year, that guy in my opinion is a C rated player

2 line pass I can understand, it's rare anyway
but to get rid of offsides just makes no sense...they have offsides in soccer...it only makes sense.

well I mean, the Rangers have the money to do this...Jagr is worth it but I don't know if he'll produce (I'm afraid he'll have the same fate as Bure)...the Rangers need a player like Holik not so much for his points and stats, but for the aggresive forward which they need...he's not worth $9 million but he is a good purchase if you ask me
I dunno what the think about weekes. He seemed to be great when the Canes made it to the finals but I haven't heard much of him sense. Like I said before, a goalie can only carry a team so much and I don't think Weekes can do that...strong D is the key for the Rangers...I see players like Balej and Thomas Pock really flourishing on the team. The young guys need much more NHL experience if the Rangers are gonna make it anywhere.

It was actually Irbe who carried most of the load for the Canes when the made it to the finals in 01 (which painfully stands out cuz they eliminated the leafs in the east final that year) It really hasn't be since the two seasons after that where Weekes really started to come into his own as one of the better goalies in the league. He finished with a GAA of just over 2.00 last year, and when you consider that Carolina didn't really have all that good of a defense, its really something. The Rangers just signed him not long before the lockout started last year, which is probably why you haven't heard much from him.
since they are pretty much a rebuilding team, the young guys are for sure gonna need more experience before going anywhere....i agree with you on that!!

I think getting rid of leetch to your leafs was a horrible move...yes they need to rebuild defense majorly but Leetch was giving guidance and leadership to a team and city that loves him so much. The fact that they kept Poti pisses me off. Trading Nedved was pretty messed up too.
how do you think Nylander is gonna do? He's an amazing player but he had that big injury the other season and hasn't played much at all since.
first off, all this hockey talk has gotten me up to half mast. As for who will dominate, with the new salary caps, and the amount of all star players that are now free agents i dont think there will be as many roll over teams this year.
as for it being the 6th sport in the us, who cares, fucking no one in the US likes soccor, and its by FAR the most popular sport world wide.. and just for the fact that the us has money, means we get to players, i believe the NE revolution are rated something like 6th world wide, including all the olympic teams, it just goes to show that reguardless of popularity, USA's national leagues will always be where the talent is... making NHL a fucking awesome spectator sport.
As for new rules
get rid of the blue line.
dont change the ice color
keep offsides
reduce holding
PROMOTE FIGHTING!!

Thank fucking god and anyone who says there a hockey fan and didn't miss it needs to realize they're not a fan at all.
So begins the craziest off-season in the history of the NHL. Hopefully including the words "With the number one pick in the draft the Los Angeles Kings select Sidney Crosby." If not then hopefully it does include the words "With the number one pick in the draft the Detroit Red Wings select Sidney Crosby."

If the Bruins finally spend some money, there is no reason they shouldnt start the season with the most talented roster, and they already got an excellent coach in Sullivan. No team was better prepared for a lockout, lets just see if Jacobs finally commits to building a winning team.

well who're they gonna buy now that there's a salary cap? The bruins are average and have a strong netminder...they also had some amazing forwards (glen murray, allison to name a couple)...they should definitely produce more. I'm predicting the flyers, devils, avalanche, and leafs really dominating

they only have 4 people under contract. they got plenty of money to spend, and tons of teams are going to be cutting exceptional players who make too much money under the new format. the only question mark is whether or not Jacobs, the owner, will lean towards the $37 million cap, or the $22 million minimum.

I was so happy when i found out the leafs had aquired Leetch at the trade deadline, but also shocked that Slather & the Rangers would give him up after everything he had done in a Ranger uniform and what he ment to that team and to the city. Don't be too surprised if you see Leetch back in a Rangers uniform this year to finish up his career there.
As for Nylander...I am not too sure. His health is obviously the biggest issue. He has shown flashes of being a really good player in the past. If he is able to play a full season, I could see him getting up near the 70 point mark (as long as he's playing on a good line of course) Cuz a lot of the times you are only as good as the team around you.
