I understand this love affair.
This albums is leaps and bounds beyond "Sunsets..." in my opinion.
It's so much stronger, and the lyrical quality has improved.
Stellar album if I do say so myself.
And a $9 preorder plus a poster is a deal you can't shake a stick at.
Or use any other stupid figures of speech to describe.

When I first heard this cd it was impressive, but not "Album of the Year" quality. But this is one of those cds that if you keep it in your cd player you find that each song gets better and better with each listen. Also, it's an incredibly consistent album. The one downfall i thought "Sunsets" had was it had some standout tracks, but than it had some let downs. One Fell Swoop just has one good track after another, and Self Conclusion is a great closer. Man to think August 9th would have had this and Jack's Mannequin on the same day...damn artwork.

Am I the only one that is not obsessed with TSC? I bought Sunsets and was extremely disappointed. "The Tide" and "All Hail.." were amazing songs, but tunes like "Evil Soul" seemed downright juvenile in a sense. Despite this site's (read: Tate's) repeated attempts to pimp this album/artist, I doubt I will be buying this.
I'll be seeing them when they come back to Sioux Falls, SD for a hometown show! I love these guys! I'll probably be pre-ordering. I mean, I might as well get a free poster (even though I got a free poster at their last Sioux Falls show and had all the guys sign it) instead of ordering it later and getting nothing free.

The part in Evil Soul where the violins kick in is my favorite part of the album. I thought Sunsets could have been great, but like you said some of the tracks were just not up to par(Although we disagree on which ones ;) ). I think you should give this one (One Fell Swoop) a shot though, its very different. Much more consistent (both lyrically and musically), which is why i think tate is pimp'n it so much (to give those who were pushed away by Sunsets a chance to listen to their new stuff).

half of sunsets, imo, was just short of brilliant (Tide, All Hail, Evil Soul, Bracelets, 3685, The Night Will Go As Follows) -
the other half seemed way overdone and forced

did you think nine inch nails was that good? i thought it was a little subpar with some standout tracks on it. And I haven't been able to hear Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album yet, I really want to :( . I haven't been able to find the Stars album at all either.
And yes, I wasn't a big fan of TSC before, but the new songs I"ve heard have blown me away. So I preordered this biotch.

that stars record is so annoyingly saccharine i can't even listen to it all the way through. i initially liked it, but after about 3 listens i couldn't take it anymore. i think that records like stars' record refresh our memories that just because it's canadian doesn't mean it's good. pick up the black keys' "rubber factory" instead if you're looking for one of the best rock albums to come out in the past year. the keys fucking own.
oh, and

$9??? That's crazy. That's like just over £5, which is ridiculously cheap, some places in England still insist on selling american label rock CDs for £15 or £16 which is also ridiculous so I'll definitely be preordering this :) I would be anyway regardless of the price but what a price it is.

Well put, with the whole juvennile thing. And I do agree, although there were a few more standout tracks and less clunkers on that one for me. The record was ok, the melodies just didn't stand out enough for me. The album felt very rushed together, even for a debut. I'm wary to check out the new stuff because I don't want to get sucked up by the hype machine, but either way I"m going to have to hear more than three songs before I consider picking this one up.

A very good question.
The only place i can find Sunsets is in FYE where they're bastards and charge me 16 dollars(their online prices are about 3 dollars less than the store cause they're sneaky assholes, they tricked me too)

I freaking hate that store, but they're the only place near me that has good selection. They had Jamisonparker on sale for 9 bucks, but other than that they are the most expensive place to buy records.

Just placed my order...this CD WILL be in my top 3 if not top 2. I'm expecting Cartel to take the top spot, and with what Jason's been saying about it, I don't expect that to change. This CD is just fantastic and gets better and better. I only liked a couple songs on "Sunsets..." but I love this entire CD...and if you only heard the demos, then don't judge this CD based on those (as solid as they were).

Sunsets and Car Crashes was always a classic for me, I got into every track and it slowly became one of my favorite cds. While I miss some of the simple acoustic stuff they used to do, this cd is everything i expected. I agree with most people in this thread, just let this cd grow on you, because it will if you let it.

It won't be the only CD I buy this year but it will probably seek permanent residence in my car stereo. I love every song I've heard thus far. I have slowly fallen in love with the Spill Canvas from the demos to Bamboozle to the PV tracks. Now to finally get Sunsets and Car Crashes to tide me over.

"Sunsets and Car Crashes" was a very good album. Although i'm not a fan of completely acoustic albums, i really enjoyed a couple of the songs. I kind of just skipped the other songs. With "One Fell Swoop", i find myself singing along with every single song. It's SO different from the debut cd and is definately worth a listen, even if you hated "Sunsets..."
Album of the Year.
