But I guess he can have his opinion. :/
jawbreaker freakin' made pop/punk. And some of the catchiest songs hooks everrrr.
Horrible f4aggot shit like "Fall out boy" , "all american rejects", "forever the sickest kids", and "boys like girls" wouldn't exist if wasn't for little 'ol Jawbreaker.
It makes me sad that people listen to that.

Currently, "In Sadding Around" and "Busy" but "Do You Still Hate Me?" and a handful of others are favorites as well. "Kiss The Bottle" deserves a mention as one of my favorite B-sides ever.

Oh.
Well I would never have known that. I have zero interest in punk music pre-1980. And in the 80's, I only really know jack about the hardcore scene.
And since Jawbreaker was the only band I knew of that successfully played the style, it made sense to me.
Ramones? I'm so dumb. How'd I not think about that.

You know about the hardcore scene but not Screeching Weasel and Descendents? Shenanigans. Especially considering Descendents almost exlusively toured with hardcore bands back then.
I don't like the Ramones. Other 70s punk is better and you should give more of it a try if you like 80s hardcore.

25 years ealier?
Even if you took the Husker's first release, compared it to Jawbreakers last release(Dear You, not Etc or anything) it's only like, 13 years difference.
But still, good point.

You would have known if you were knowledgeable about 80s hardcore outside of just listening to a few albums. Everyone who is knows that a lot of those bands were on the same circut and played a lot together.

No, bud, NO! The last thing you want to do is buy a book from a store in the mall to learn about punk. Watch American Hardcore, shit, even use wikipedia. Avoid lame documentaries that hail all the big guys. I'd bet half that book is about either Black Flag, The Sex Pistols or Bad Brains. Don't do it.

The book's great - pick it up if it's your thing. It's detailed enough but not so much that it's overwhelming for someone who's trying to get into the genre, so if you want exceedingly detailed you might want to look elsewhere.

All I can say from here is that I started on this board at the age of 13, and I was pretty damn naive, so let's all relax that he doesn't know a few detrimental 80's bands. He'll figure out.
American Hardcore is great, so is the We Jame Econo: The Story of the Minutemen, Also the first half of the doc Kill Your Idols, which is about the New York No Wave scene.
Also, totally cliche and stuff but read Our Band Could Be Your life

homophobia is awesome.
so is feeling entitled for perceiving your music taste as superior.
sooner or later you are going to figure out that there are more important things than elitist gratification, and on that day, you will let bygones be bygones, because when it comes down to it someone who listens to far shittier music could be the best friend you'll ever have and a great human being.

Listen to Bob (SickofStars). He taught me this lesson long ago and I have grown more pubic hair since then.
As for being politically correct, I'm not so sure that's very valuable to you. As much as I have roamed punk forums I've learned that fighting against morally objective content is futile. I'm also still pretty pissed about getting banned for using the "F" word in jest on AP...

American hardcore is a terrible terrible movie. Watching it makes you think hardcore only existed in two real places and ended in 1985.
also being PC is generally important if you don't hate minorities.

I'd have to disagree. The only reason anyone is politically correct, truthfully, is because they don't want to offend people. I commend you if you choose to do so, I believe it's a great personal ethic. However, I think it's fair to say that you can still be fond of all peoples and also not be afraid of offending them.
And plus, if any one is taking me seriously, they have a fucking problem, not me.
American Hardcore is good for starters. I watched the film earlier on, and I'm in a position to say that I know more than the movie told me. Generally, when you indulge in music, you tend to make more discoveries as you prowl for new sound to grace your ears. I can't say there's anything quite as mainstream and factual than American Hardcore.

uh....no. you are politically correct so you don't exclude people. go ask a homosexual how they feel about taking part in conversations where gay is an insult or women about how they feel about being referred to as sluts.
and meh, yeah it's factual, but it also covers basically the same group of bands that everyone already knows about. Johnny Fratboy already knows about Black Flag. He doesn't know about Husker Du.
Fuckmaxbemis
01/10/09, 07:41 PM
Yeah, but when two gay people and two women converse it's socially acceptable to say things like that. That in itself is politically incorrect. I'm not justifying it as non-offensive. I'm saying it's just fucking stupid to go whining about it like I used to, when I always remember, it's the internet and nothing should be taken seriously.
