snare drum help!

i like having a good, "crack" and "snap" sound to my snare. While wearing studio headphones it sounds great, but without it it has to much of an overtone, even with moongel. Almost like the snares are rattling to much. i play in my basement. Will this go away when playing along with other instruments and at larger venues ???

It's out of tune. But, it's never really possible to get drums perfectly in tune. What batter head are you using? If you've got a single-ply head on it, you should try a powerstroke 3 (or something similar) or a two-ply head to deaden some of the overtones.
