I love seeing people from The Wire in other shit. I'm referring to the dying black guy, for those who aren't enlightened. He plays the original mayor on The Wire.

the first two episodes were very solid and i was surprised. Glad they got back to the sad, emo story line kinda thing in the second one.

I'm watching this season for one reason and one reason only

to learn Janitor's name

Why Bother?
01/10/09, 10:58 AM
I love this show so much, and these first two S8 episodes are really a great comeback, but the fact that there will be a lot of episodes like the second one is what I have a problem with. I love the second episode, amazing heartfelt story, but back in the first seasons this story would've been told at the same time as other stories from the rest of the cast, so it seemed lazy. What happened to Turk's career as a surgeon? I always liked the stuff he went through with his boss and the Todd and all that, now he just follows JD around, I hope this stops for a while further this season. I still give them props for doing the best with what they have since the whole cast can't appear in every episode because of money problems, like Tate said in the other thread.

Haha. I always did find that sweet.

That makes me think of that scene where Kelso imagines what it would be like to marry Elliot.

Elliot and Kelso sit far across the table from one another eating dinner. Elliot looks up at Kelso and sneers.

Elliot: I hate you

Kelso pauses from his meal at first as if he's schocked. His face relaxes and he shrugs.

Kelso: I know

Fantasy ends.

Wow. Two brilliant episodes, the 2nd especially. I love Kelso now, hes so Human and it actually warms me a lot to him in past years, too. I know we'd seen sparks of a decent, compassionate person before, but I suppose no longer being chief of medicine made it easier for him to be that person. I really, really liked JD and Elliots conversation, too. It was filmed a lot like an interview and it flowed really nicely, it was a really candid look at where both the characters were. It all seemed very natural. I like it a lot.

Oh on a side note:

I know Cox becomes C.O.M, but I fear what thats gonna do to him. He's already a pretty bitter dude, so whats the added preassure going to do to him? He's going to have to make the same shitty decisions that Kelso had to, it doesnt mean he's going to like it. He just doesnt seem to have the same coping mechanism that Kelso had. I could see the job as C.O.M destroying Cox to some degree. Unless they make it a total cop-out and have it in a fantasy land where Cox can run the hospital how he wants regardless of budgets, peoples insurance etc. It just wouldnt happen realistically.

Wow, I totally over-thought that.

This was the first time in the last couple seasons where I really enjoyed an entire episode of scrubs, with both episodes tonight. You had the character connections which I thought last season lacked. And the bringing up of "sex buddies" was the funniest thing from the show in a while.

drudo182
01/13/09, 09:33 PM
I enjoyed the episodes tonight. First one bummed me out because there was no Turk (my fav. character) but there was some good stuff with him in the second episode. And Chalke on the bed... mmmyeah.

Alex!
01/13/09, 09:37 PM
I liked these two A LOT more than the first two. I LOVE all the references to the other seasons (the noise after sex buddies, the janitors 3 fingered fake wife, etc.).

Also, two 3rd wall kinda things I thought were cool:

1) Courtney Cox's character telling Dr. Cox his name was ridiculous.
2) JD saying he watching Friends the other night.

And the best thing of all...

JD AND ELLIOT ARE BACK!

Second episode was great -- no Carla means solid A episode! First was ok.

CityOfLust
01/13/09, 10:01 PM
JD and Elliot are back indeed!

I think that most scrubs fans want JD and Elliot back together simply because it was fun to see them together and they are two of the main cast members. And I predict a trade-off of cast members to the new interns. ABC just bought scrubs and the original cast is ready to move on. My predictions:

Dr. Kelso will resume his post at Chief of Medicine, but at the end of the season he will willingly retire giving it to Dr. Cox
JD and Elliot will get married.
We learn the Janitor's real name if it isn't Jan Itor.

terrycw89
01/13/09, 10:06 PM
No way in hell Dr. Kelso becomes Chief again. He was forced to retire because he was too old.

Anyways, the show has been great so far. I actually want JD and Elliot to be together. She doesn't annoy me at all (at least this season...).

01/13/09, 10:16 PM
Sex buddies throwback was great! I liked the Janitor and JD referencing all the past in the first episode as well.

"You locked me in a water tower!"
"You wrote on the wall"
"You destroyed my scooter Sasha!"
"You know I hate Wednesdays"
"You haunted my Pediatric patients"
"You didn't wear the shorts that my imaginary wife made for you."

Also, Elliot's character is very likeable so far. After that first episode she has been very mature. I missed Turk in the first episode.

Janitor telling JD that he knows that he hates Wednesdays had me laughing loud.

JD has been the most likable he has been in a few years. I was worried at the start of the second episode they were going super gay with him again (the Oprah stuff) -- but they toned it down and he got serious at the end ... which I liked.

I'm just happy that they have actually kept to their promise of making the characters human again. No more cartoon versions of themselves, and yet they still manage to be funny. Funny how that works.

See I thought that was a reference to Friends because right after that Elliot says "You were watching the Friends marathon yesterday weren't you?" and he says yes because that's exactly what Ross and Rachel did at the end of Friends. I don't know, maybe it was supposed to be a reference to both but that's what I had thought it was.

its funny how a season and better writting has affectted my view on J.D. adn Elliot getting back together. I was sooooo pissed when they almost kissed at the end of season 6 but now I'm totally cool with the idea of them together. The scenes with them talking it out was very mature and show how they are kinda destined to be together. (and of how the writers have stepped it up)

Kudos to Bill Lawrence for giving his show the kick in the ass it needed and to ABC for picking it up and reminding me why I loved this show for so long. Because his psyche immediately imagines anything outlandish you say to him, which is exactly what he told Elliot right after she suggested the relationship between JD and Turk. It won't be the ending because it would be so random, and revealing that JD is gay would not be closing a storyline as much as leaving a whole bunch of holes and space for more storylines. After last season, Bill Lawrence and the writers know not to jerk the fans around anymore. As for what Bill Lawrence said about making a "compromise" for the JD/Elliot relationship, I took that as meaning that either he'll have them together now only to decide to give it time and take it slow after JD moves at the end of the season, or they'll just break it off altogether due to the move. I just really find the gay thing hard to believe.

Let's start by saying that that the "p" thing finally worked, but only if I don't edit anything. Kicking my computer only worked a little. Thanks for all the help. Okay, here was my thinking. There was massive argument/discussion between writers/cast/wife. Ultimately it came down to this - I wanted, at some point, to sleep with my wife again... No. The real skinny. Christa, Zach and others were right: Sarah and Zach do have chemistry, and whether I wanted people to care or not, they apparently care about this couple. So, I'm stuck in a position of not bbeing able to please everybody. Which, then, is the better option? If they don't get together, there will be no pleasing the happy ending folk that wanted this to be so. They would simply feel like I got them invested and then didn't deliver. On the other hand, if they do get together, I will lose everyone that desperately didn't want this to happen. Or will I (arch eyebrow raised)? See, my problem with the Jelliot coupling was that we - as writers - fell into a trap whenever we put them together. We wrote about nothing but them as a couple, and the show changed. This is why I tried to kill them for good with that awful "I don't love you" moment. But it didn't bury it, so I had to acknowledge that the relationship was unkillable. I made a deal with the other writers. If we could put J.D. and Elliot back together in a mature/grown-up/non-sexual/non-sensational manner, and if we promised not to make the show suddenly about them, then I was open to it. Plus, I was not interested in their re-coupling being a key element in the finale of the show. But the fourth episode...? I tried to put into J.D.'s mouth, words that are a promise to fans (from us writer types) about the "no more ridiculousness" tone of this relationship now. So, I hope the shippers are happy, I hope the others don't feel betrayed, but those are my reasons. And, of course, the sex with my wife thing.

And, of course, the sex with my wife thing.

so, i have really enjoyed this season so far - my question is what would you call what JD and Elliott went through in ep.4 (the ep. where they are talking to each other at the coffee shop). basically, what is it called when you have been through so much with someone that you can't exactly forget the past. you can't let go of all the crap that has happened between you, and your not even sure if you want to move past it, but you know you care about them anyway....or something...

and after figuring out maybe what that is actually called, what are some songs that illustrate this feeling?

stupid my post got moved. now i get absolutely no help with my question. i was using the show's theme as an example. not necessarily to even talk about the show. thanks, whoever did it. although, "life" is actually a very good name for it.

i was erring more on the lyrical side of things, but yeah, i can see where the feeling of that song might do it.

Thank god, I get a few minutes to watch Scrubs before I have to leave for work. Plus, knowing that tonight's episode is new, helps me through the day.
