A few posts earlier made me wonder what you all think. I know the decade isn't over yet, just up to this point.

I'm sure I'm not alone in throwing Radiohead's Kid A out there. In Rainbows is at the top of my list also.
As well as ...And The Battle Begun from the RX Bandits.

this question has been raised a couple times & i definitely don't think there could possibly be one stand alone staple answer, but it's an interesting topic once you weed through all the "the devil & god" answers haha. some that came to mind:

tinariwen - aman iman: water is life
joe strummer & the mescaleros - streetcore
radiohead - kid a
trinity roots - home, land & sea
wilco - yankee hotel foxtrot
beck - sea change
at the drive- in - relationship of command
bela fleck & the flecktones - outbound

i'd love to add some finn brothers albums haha. & i'll probably think of, & add more, later

But I'm not claiming it as a fucking album of the decade...

I would expect someone who says that the album of the year is a no contest type of thing to listen to Britney Spears. That's just a really fucking stupid thing to say.

Again, there's nothing elite about placing Kid A at number one. You just watch how many publications do the same come December.

Lololol. Radiohead are one of the biggest bands in the world. Don't qualify as a name drop. If you can assume that about him I guess I can assume the following:

I'm claiming Juturna as a fucking album of the decade...I would suck Anthony Green's cock.

The Mars Volta - deloused in the comatorium

The Depreciation Guild - In her gentle jaws
Brand New - Deja Entendu
Taking Back Sunday - Tell all your friends
Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
AFI - Sing The Sorrow

I know im missing alot, and could prolly replace some, but thats just off the top of my head. its hard to think of the whole decade, some things that i LOVED in 2002, i now think are mediocre e.g. The Used/TBS/AFI. but at one point in my life i LOVED those cds, so i have to take whole decade into prospective.

No it's not. Some things in music are just facts.

Examples:
Brian Wilson wrote the best pop melodies ever.
Lennon/McCartney is the greatest songwriting combo ever.
Aretha Franklin is the greatest female vocalist of all time.
Jimi Hendrix is the greatest guitat player of all time (note: not best before you get all douchebaggy)
Kid A is the best album of this decade.
OK Computer is the best album of the nineties.
The Beatles are the best band of all time.
Freddie Mercury is the greatest frontman of all time.

I thought Jim Morrison was the best frontman of all time?? Hes the most copied anyways. the original rock star!!

i think the idea of an "album of the decade" is fucking stupid because there's too many albums, with too many different kinds of music, most of which have completely different goals, which makes comparing them impossible. but meh.

I couldn't ever decide on a 'best' album of the decade. But heres a few I think contend:

Arcade Fire - Funeral
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Jamie T - Panic Prevention
Kings Of Leon - Because Of The Times/Aha Shake Heartbreak
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
TV On The Radio - Dear Science
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
The White Stripes - Elephant
The Early November - The Mother (Personal favorite, maybe even call it a guilty pleasure? But one I don't expect to see on anyone elses list)
Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me (Go on, give me shit)
Iron & Wine - The Shepherds Dog
Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Don't Like Bad News (Disagree, but I think it's their best)
The Strokes - Is This It? (Ok, so a few of these are definitely not best of the decade - but since my list is already too big, I thought I'd include it)

Yes, there were a couple of great fucking albums this year.

No, Radiohead is not on my list. Although the only album of theirs I don't own is Kid A, which seems to be the one I need to look into.

What makes you go with The Fall of Math ? I know we've discussed 65dos before, but i'm still curious.
The best instrumental (and in general) album I've heard to come out in the 2000's.
It's the best of post-rock meeting excellent pieces of electronica, creating a fantastic new sound, that is frankly long overdue from being copied by anyone. It's been 4 years since TFOM came out, and the only band to do this sound is still 65dos. Shame really, as I (and a lot of critics) thought this would be the direction post-rock would take. Nothing else sounds like this, and it's pretty near darn perfect. The only post-rock album to better it F#A#∞, and that came out in 1997.

It's far too difficult to make a definitive choice, especially in light of the fact that we can't look at the decade objectively in the context of time passed as well as the fact we have yet another year to go.

However, in no particular order, these are the few I would imagine fighting out for contention (no particular order) :

Radiohead -- Kid A
Arcade Fire -- Funeral
Wilco -- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Joanna Newsom -- Ys
The White Stripes -- Elephant
Vijay Iyer and Rudresh Mahanthappa -- Raw Materials
Sufjan Stevens -- Illinois
Liars -- Drums Not Dead
LCD Soundsystem -- Sound of Silver
Bob Dylan -- Love and Theft
Madvillian -- Madvilliany

Since no one has discussed any different genres really, this is what'd make my hip hop list of best albums in the 00's. Off the top of my head:

The Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
Madvillain - Madvillainy
Jay-Z - The Black Album
One Be Lo - S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M.
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
The Roots - Game Theory
Binary Star - Masters of the Universe
Outkast - Stankonia
Talib Kweli - quality
I'd put the Blueprint ahead of American Gangster anyday.

They got big off their first two albums, which were just pretty basic Britpop. When they released OK Computer they already had something of a fanbase, and then all the critical acclaim that got piled onto that album started to pile up.

being one of the few acts with so much talent that it's impossible to go unnoticed.

Better music continues to go unnoticed all the time.

Pretty good explanation. Makes me want to go listen to The Fall of Math now... haha.

being one of the few acts with so much talent that it's impossible to go unnoticed.

He's said it all.
