Hey guys. Hope you had a swell weekend. Today I am joined by the incomparable FullForever69, as he has some interesting recommendations for you!
Garett’s Recs
Monty (http://www.purevolume.com/monty)- If you read my review (http://www.absolutepunk.net/reviews.php?action=viewarticle&artid=189) of their new album, The Red Shift, then you already know I think this band has a really great sound. They mesh together so many different elements and come out with something that just truly rocks your face off. Definitely give a listen, I think you’ll like them.
Maria Taylor (http://www.saddle-creek.com/html/mariataylor_frame.html)- This amazingly talented woman has worked with so many spectacular artists throughout her career and is most noted for being one half of the indie duo Azure Ray. However, her latest effort, a solo record titled 11:11, is really an inspired piece of work. Anything with Maria’s vocals is obviously going to be sweepingly beautiful, and her songwriting skills are top notch. Check it outttt.
The Spill Canvas (http://www.purevolume.com/thespillcanvas)- I gotta holla at Jason, while maybe this isn’t my album of the year, it’s really incredible. One of those records that the more you listen the more you fall in love with it. The vocals are freakin on target and gorgeous and the music is beyond anything I would have expected from this band. I’m impressed, and I love listening to One Fell Swoop.
Also a I’ve seen a lot of talk scattered throughout our boards about Tilly and the Wall (http://www.tillyandthewall.com/) and how they don’t get enough attention, and it’s true. If you like anything indie, especially on the poppier side, Tilly and the Wall are sure to catch your ear. Just really fun, amusing, and lovely indie tunes. Arrangements include a tap dancer and a garbage can for percussion!
BUT MY BIGGEST RECOMMENDATION: You may have heard of or seen the new Comedy Central show entitled STELLA (http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/stella/index.jhtml). WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT. Tuesday Nights 10:30/9:30c. These guys built up a following with their uniquely absurd yet hilarious brand of comedy through a series of online short films and various underground comedy performances. These are the same guys that brought you The State and Wet Hot American Summer! Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain. At first you might think... what the fuck am I watching? But trust me, take a moment to enjoy it, this is some of the best comedy out right now.
*oh and i gotta throw it up for Coheed, their new song and new comic book are both fucking awesome and now everyone remembers why we loveeee Coheed! yayyyyyy

FullForever69's Recs
The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up: (http://www.jypu.net/) The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up are a five piece musical group. They live and record and play shows on the west coast of the United States and hope to one day play for you, wherever you may be. They think of you often and sometimes write love letters to you that they are too shy to send..
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: (http://clapyourhandssayyeah.com/shows.php) I can’t say enough good things about this band, and I’m not going to waste your time making lazy comparisons to other bands. If you’ve already heard of them, they deserve all of the hype and much more.
Wolf Parade: (http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=11211) The next big thing to hit the indie scene… I was expecting more new songs on their full length, but I can’t complain. I can't conjure up a decent description, but I assure you, its good....
Sufjan Stevens: (http://www.sufjan.com/) I’m sure you’ve all heard of him by now. Illinois blew me away; I didn’t think he could top “Greetings from Michigan”, but IMO he did it with this record. This guy is amazing and one can only wonder how much he can improve at such a young age.
Windsor For the Derby: (http://www.windsorforthederby.com/) is amazing. Their music is both sparse and layered at the same time. If Yo La Tengo was a post-rock band, it would probably sound pretty close to this. Their new album is littered with lush, ethereal soundscapes. Listen to this band!!!
Andrew Bird: (http://www.andrewbird.net/) Forget the violin. Forget the classical background. As troubadour Andrew Bird puts it, “At this point the violin just happens to be the instrument I have on hand to make the sounds that I hear. I like to abuse it and pull as many sounds out of it as I can.” Bird is a masterful and intuitive singer / songwriter, and what he does while performing—alternately plucking and bowing his violin, then immediately sampling the results, layering the sounds with guitar, whistling, glockenspiel and vocals—bears little resemblance to what most people might expect. It’s only one of several devices in his arsenal of instruments, melodies, and imaginative wordplay.
Pas/Cal: (http://www.pascalgoespop.com/) The spark that ignited Pas/Cal's pop flame was provided by Gene Corduroy's dubious dare to the group: improvise a pop song with the wit, charm and craft of a masterwork that had been labored over for months. The challenge proved fruitful and rewarding, spurring on more efforts to create smart pop pieces for the subversive set. Thus was planted the seed that germinated into the phenomenon we know today.
