Plane tickets..

Is it possible to buy a plane ticket and use it whenever you want? like not necessarily on a certain date?

I want to know if that's actually possible..

probably depends on the airline and when you're going...I doubt it though cause airfares change year round.

or maybe you can purchase a ticket that you can use only on a certain period of time? like from july 18th to july 30th.. for example..?

well i think you can purchase them for a certain season, but i think you'll have to let them know which flight you'll want to take at a certain time also because they don't want to over book it, a good thing to do is plan to take it on a day that you really don't want to take it, cause more than likely it'll be over booked and offer to be bumped on another flight and they'll give you another ticket so you'll get to take two trips for the price of one, just make sure you ask them for the other ticket when they bump you

I'm not booking a flight or anything.. but my friend is and she was interested in knowing if such thing was possible because she hasn't made up her mind yet.
